- Classical: - Second third of the 16 th century. - It used elements of classical art and was influenced by the Italian Renaissance.
- Herrerian: - Last third of the 16 th century. - Buildings became more monumental and geometric but lacked decorative elements.

Sculpture and painting - Sculptors and painters used drama to express their deep religious faith intead of the classical serenity. - Important sculptors: Berruguete and Juan de Juni, who carved spectacular altarpieces and sculptures. - Important painters: Sรกnchez Coello and El Greco. - - El Greco is known for : - creating complex compositions - cold colours - elongated figures displaying dramatic gestures.

- Flemish painters was characterised by realistic and detailed portraits and landscapes. - Important painters: Van Eyck, Van der Weyden and Bosch (El Bosco). - Later, Brueghel, painted satirical realities. 2. Germany:
- Painters focused on portraits and landscapes. - Dürer, a brilliant engraver, was a pioneer in the self-portraits. - France: - The best examples appear in architecture (Château de Chambord and the Palace of Fontainebleau. - The monarchy promoted th Renaissance and kings Louis XIII and François I brought Italian artists to their courts.
