5. TYPES OF RELIEF CONTINENTAL RELIEF -MOUNTAINS: - very high elevations of the Earth’s surface. - MOUNTAIN RANGES: when mountains are grouped together. - PLATEAUS: high flat areas that are formed from eroded mountains. - PLAINS: - low flat areas. - They are fertile for agriculture due to the sediments deposited in them. - ALLUVIAL PLAINS: are formed by rivers - COASTAL PLAINS: are near the sea.
- BASINS: - very low areas. - some of them are below sea level (Dead Sea)
5. TYPES OF RELIEF RELIEF ON THE OCEAN FLOOR -
CONTINENTAL SHELF (Plataforma continental): - - Is a great underwater plateau that surrounds a continent. - It is less than 200 metres deep
-
ABYSSAL PLAINS (Llanuras abisales): -
-
TRENCHES (Fosas oceánicas): -
-
Like cracks in the Earth’s surface, but in the ocean floor. The deepest trench, Mariana Trench, in the Pacific Ocean, 11,000 metres deep.
OCEAN RIDGES ( Dorsales oceánicas) -
-
Huge underwater plains. More than 4,000 metres deep.
Similar to mountain ridges, but in the ocean floor.
CONTINENTAL SLOPE: -
Sloping terrain that connects continental shelf to the abyssal plains.
