WATER AS RESOURCE • -All living things need water, but fresh water. • Most of fresh water is in form of ice in the polar regions and in glaciers, therefore it isn’ available to us. • Drinking water needs to be purified before human consumption. • Water is a vital resource and we need recycle it.


6. WATER AS RESOURCE UNEVEN WATER DISTRIBUTION - There are big amounts of water in temperate and tropical areas: - because precipitation is continuous - There may be floods - Water is scarce in very dry regions , where suffer from droughts (Ă frica)

WATER AS RESOURCE WATER SHORTAGE - Rapid growth of population means that water is becoming scarce. - We use water for : - drinking - irrigation - in towns - in industry - Conflicts over the access to water are increased in some places by scarcity. - Examples: - Israel against Arab States - Around the River Ganges - Around the rivers Tigris and Euphrates


6. WATER AS RESOURCE WATER POLLUTION - Human activity affect the quality of the water: 1. Factories and farms release chemicals and pesticides - that enters in rivers and seas - that filter into the soil: that affect groundwater.

2. Waste sewage: Developing countries don’t have the resources to clean it up properly. 3. Radiactive waste:- is released by nuclear power station - increase radiation in oceans. 4. Acid rain: some gases are absorbeb by clouds and produce acid rain that contains chemicals and enter in water cycle.
