The Draft Party kicked off at the Richmond Greens Sports Centre on May 14 where celebrities, teams and sponsors gathered for a cocktail reception and the chance to have first pick to draft their choice celebrity or athlete. Honorary Chair, Actor Kurt Russell was among some of the best in sports and entertainment including Major League Baseball alumni David Justice, Roberto Alomar, Brett Saberhagen, Gary Cater, Tim Raines, Dave Parker, Devon White, Andre Dawson, Gary Sheffield, Pedro Guerrero, Vince Coleman, athletes Gary Leeman, Marcus Allen, Eric Dickerson and actors Alfonso Ribeiro and Enrico Colantoni. The highlight of the day was the championship game between the Sinai Sluggers (top fundraising team) against an all-star line up of celebrities, where the All-Star Celebrity team won 7-2.
The camaraderie between team members and celebrities was outstanding. Participants were mingling together and getting into the true spirit of the event; raising critical funds for a world class institution, while having a blast. Auxiliary member, Julia Paisley said it best, “What a view, what a thrill! The sound of the bat, crack — the wind from the swing — I’ll cherish these memories forever.” The Grand Slam Gala on May 17, was the concluding event with entertainment provided by Chicago before a gathering of 1,000 guests at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
