NATATORIUM FOR EXCELLENCE IN AQUATIC SPORT In recent years, Thailand national swimming team is on downturn, swimming lessons are comprised in a basic education syllabus in Thailand. Also, swimming competitions are organized throughout a year under a supervision of Thailand Swimming Association (TSA) However, in an international competition, the results were not outstanding and were not satisfactory due to the substandard of swimming pool and the difficulty to access to the swimming pool for a training program. an architecture can plays a significant role in creating suitable environment. It can attract more people to visit and use the swimming pool. This might cause people who are interested in swimming become a future athlete. Moreover, with the standard facilities, it will help Thai team compete with others in the international level.

THAILAND SWIMING CONDITION

Sports have never been a part of Thai culture, especially swimming, due to the original country condition Thai people have never seen swimming as a sport.

There is no facility which was built for the purpose of professional training


MAJOR FINDING it can be shown that many things are missing in the swimming training in Thailand. The existing conditions of swimming pool in Thailand are not well enough. The venues do not have enough light according to FINA facility guide. Most of swimming pools have unhygienic facilities with a few numbers of toilets and bathroom. The gym and dryland area are not including in the normal swimming facilities since the pool construction are not purposed to be a professional training facility. 10


OBJECTIVE

DESIGN CONCEPT the natatorium focuses on the user priority. The main focus is to train athletes to achieve highest performance and become a champion with fully essential needed facilities provided. While allowing visitors to observe the activities in the building in order to increase their interests in aquatic sports.

KEY DESIGN The building layouts were designed by using the pool as a center which is surrounded by other facilities and opened to receive a view from Muengthong lake. The most important part of the design is the dryland training area which is the physical element key factor to be succeeded. Apart from using the pool for water training, dryland training activities can improve water performance. The dryland training area is designed to be a part of the pool deck changing to a loop shape for running, inner ring, and dryland activities at outer ring. 13

The cluster layout allow visitor to explore around the hawker center. However it might be difficult to see all the stall.

THAINESS PAVILLION The term Phrae Wa denotes shoulder cloth of elaborately patterned silk brocade traditionally with deep red ground, 2 meters long and 45 centimeter wide. It is woven and worn by women from Phu-tai community.

COLOR PERCENTAGE the hieght of column is used to define color of Phrae Wa set by color percentage of pattern which the most color that appear in pattern is the lowest column. 25


AXONOMETRIC DIAGRAM

DESIGN APPROACH The pavilion design approach follow the Phrae Wa weaving methodology which the work side that face up is the backside of the brocade. Hence, the pavillion first introduce visitor with it preciness of the column represent its backside. After that, once the visitor reach downstair, the real pattern of the brocade will reveal similar to finished Phrae Wa weaving. 26


The pavilion use module system as dot to represent preciseness of Phrae wa. Beside the another identity of Phrae Wa is vibrant color than other similar type of weaving The underground is show us special way of weaving Phrae Wa that the real pattern is face down and maker only see the backside.
