ANN - TRA - THAN GUESTHOUSE Flower Market, Bangkok, Thailand This project is a guest house for tourists who want to stay in historic district of Thailand. It’s located in Pak Klong Talad, The largest flower market in Thailand. This is highly dynamic district. There are people and cars passing by for 24 hours. And the place still near tourist attractions and historical landmarks. This is the old district of Bangkok. This area has buildings that are influenced by western architecture. And those buildings are steadily decreasing.
The site is at the corner of the intersection. Causing the large view open to the road. And can see the building first when accessing the district. The shape of the building is thought from the context. The Liveliness of the district and the canal makes both side of the building are more attractive. Therefore creating a green area and parking within the area for air ventilation and reduce discomfort. And add more garden on the terrace for Prevent sunlight and eyesight from outside.
MASS DIAGRAM
The main idea is to show the past of the district that had been changing in architecture. Is the use of the characteristics of the old and the new, combined with the access sequence. That represented to the disappearance of architecture. From the former building style on the ground floor has been simplify to present architecture and disappear. On the other hand, when at night, the upper level will see the life of the people inside more than lower floor. The corner serves as a public space including reception, flower workshop and rooftop restaurant.
Planning the building by using the axis that is related to the reception area and parking. Connect vertically with elevators and stairs from the hall area. The ground floor is connected to the district to attract people passing by. Using single load corridor for better air ventilation and reduce the discomfort of the area.
URBAN VERNACULAR ACCOMODATION VEX : Agitated Vernacular 2018, Thailand A S A International Design Competition aims to upend the typical associations of vernacular architecture and design. The term ‘VEX’ can be approached from a multitude of perspectives, all to challenge, or agitate, the stereotypes of what vernacular should or should not be.
The challenge of the competition is for participants to create a new type of vernacular with characteristics not commonly associated with vernacular design. The competition is looking to showcase new vernacular design that is mutable, inventive and capable of self-renewal.
“Vernacular Architecture is an architecture which generated from basic instincts and individual supported the users” These Architecture in Thailand usually being overlooked by the capitalism that dramatically increased in these days. “Tenements” have become very common from the growing economy which indicates prosperity levels in each area, and somehow could be define as a vernacular architecture of the urban society. But the need of quantity is increasing with the lower cost which also cause the lower quality.
Our project is to create an area that meets the demands of urban society users lifestyles while aware of costs, quality and individual customization by using 4 spans of 4x4 meters stacked up steel frame structure combine with prefabrication, using steel clamp and bolts to connect with the main structures which supported the main idea for user to custom their own space in 2 spans and the basic function remain in another 2 span for each users to reclaim the identity and lifestyles.
JATUJAK MUSEAM, ARTMARKET & ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Jatujak, Bangkok, Thailand Is a Mixed Use project that mixes Museum, Artists houses, galleries, markets and restaurants Causing interest in the area that supports various activities Such as outdoor exhibition space Activity areas that occur and circulate over time and can still see the work of the artist from the creation stage. This JJ AIR project has a location near the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Which is a place that is quite famous. There has been a lot of people passing through the day with a lot of potential and is a
potential area that is the path of many people and is expected to be further developed in the future
“Why do people think art is not important?” Is a question that arises, leading to the answer, which is people generally think that art is difficult to access. Art is usually in the gallery. Often in art galleries or in an architecture that looks quite serious. Therefore is the source of “Break the building” to make people who are not interested in getting closer to art by knowing or not.
MAIN CONCEPT
This project, part of the Museam, was dug into the underground. And appeared as the same look box throughout the project. And have connections to see from the ground down to the ground. Causing a suspicious feeling that each box that came up was what. And because in the original site area there is a large tree line. Keeping the tree in the garden inside causes the connection from the road zone. Helps create a path for people to come through the site And also serves to show the boundaries between public spaces and artists’ houses Therefore, it is the source of the selection of a location management system with a Grid system which can help people to be able to walk around and still be close to the art at the time in the area as well. In a position that does not destroy the original tree line. And in each point, in addition to exhibiting internal work There is also an insertion point that shows the outdoor work throughout the walk.
And raise the function that requires a little more privacy to work with the market area and art gallery area below And there are 3 points that connect this area into 3 positions distributed in the project Bringing the whole art exhibition area to the ground, so as not to let the eyes of the person looking from above disturbing people who want to see art This makes the
exhibit can control the access and safety of people who come to see art and art pieces. By defining the entry point The relationship that occurs when different levels and different uses come together, resulting in a variety of patterns according to each function, resulting in a combined Node. Spread out throughout the site And also creating visibility
that makes people in every area is visible and nearby. With art at all times to create an atmosphere that makes people more easily accessible in each area
KIDS FACTORY CHAMBER 19 Laveno mombello, Varece, Italy This is the competition to design largest kindergarten for kids from old pottery factory in Italy. The main purpose is to restore historic buildings from 1856 in Laveno Mombello, Varece, Italy. This project has playing space for children, relaxing space for adult, exhibition space for tourist and market for community. The main idea is build relationships between children and adults. And create colorful space that interesting and conducive to learning.
MAIN CONCEPT
What if imagination becomes part of reality ? Children have their own imaginary world so as adult, but in fact we live in the same place. One day children would grow up and adults were once children before, that means we were each other part. So creating a place where the real world meets imagination like children meets adults become the main concept of this project. We pick up the fun, interesting natural character, for instance, waves in the ocean, stars in the dark, clear sky in summer, trees in the forest and huge rock mountain, to inspire children so they can imagine his or her world and to create relaxing space for holiday where the whole family can enjoy. All the chosen natural characters were matched with function and simplified to circular and curve shapes. Since the factory has a lot of columns we decide to add planes overlap the old columns to create a new boundary character, then the planes were subtracted by circular shapes and curves depend on the function and character of space. Hoping to recreate the meaning and give the old factory new character. We are not only placing a little gap for the prince and princess castle, but also designing a relaxing space for holiday. This old factory has been represented as the place where ceramics were made for decades, but today we would like to show that it can be more. There might be two worlds for kid and adult, but single space for all.
In addition to using natural forms to create a shape of space, there is still need to dealing with old structure and grid of the factory. By placing the wall on the old grid for reduce the vastness of the area. With subtract/intersect the wall by sphere shape causing space connection and perception. Making it possible for a variety of children to play.
Untitled map RIVERSIDE PAVILLION Bang Khonthi, Samutsongkram, Thailand Untitled layer Built : 3rd Year, Summer (2018) All items
This project is assigned under the faculty’s architecture volunteering camp 2018 which this camp is hosted by the third year students, thus, I am one of the design and construction team of this camp. This year we decided to design and build a multipurpose pavilion that serves both students and the people in the community. After the site survey around Samut-Songkhram prov-
Untitleddecided layer ince, we to choose Wat Pakngam School as our build location as this is a small school locating far away from the town area. Moreover, it is one of a few schools in Bangkhontee district that has a very special connection and relationship with the community around. This means that this location fits perfectly as our criteria mentioned above, it has to be serves for both the students and the community.
The site contexts is that it is a vacant land adjacent to the Bangkhontee river bank, community’s clinic, temple and school. so, this area has a very high potential to develop to be a community’s node that connect every group of users together as this district is lack of designed public spaces. Furthermore, the traditional way of local people has a very close connection with the river, this leads to the design concept that the pavilion has to enhance this special connection between the local people, students and the river.
The design can be parted into two phases, differentiating by the different usage of flooring materials which are concrete blocks with grass and pure concrete casted floor. The intention behind using the concrete blocks is to integrate the nature around the site into the pavilion, as a connector to the grass surrounding. Moreover, the main structures and frame are built using wood as a main material in order to give more enclosure for the users and the natural environment around.
In addition, there are several energy saving methods implemented as for the voids, they are designed according to the prevailing wind so it reduces energy consumption inside the pavilion, also the translucent roofing for more natural lighting. As there are many group of users using this pavilion, the design of space inside the pavilion are separating using the big door within. However, the limitation of this project is that it has to be done by 2 weeks with all architecture student teams ranging from first year to third year. So, the construction that we chose to perform is in unit in order to control the time. Even though the constructions are integrating between wood, concrete and steel but the joining methods are
very simple and distributed from smaller pieces in order to save both time and material consumption, leading towards a teamwork and implementation of knowledges on to the real thing.
