List of US National Parks by State The United States has 59 national parks. National parks are preserved by the US National Parks Service. They're meant to be glimpses into nature; protected from the everyday expansion of technology. Here are the United States' 59 national parks, by state. Alaska Glacier Bay, Katmai, Kenai Fjords, Lake Clark, Wragell - St. Elias, Denali, Kobuk Valley, Gates of the Arctic. Alaska has eight national parks, tied for highest with California. American Samoa The American Samoa is a national park on three islands. It's not part of the United States, but is under US government jurisdiction. Arizona Saguaro, Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon, Hot Springs National Park. The Grand Canyon is a cornerstone of US park culture. Sporting over 4.4 million visitors in 2007, it's an absolute must-see landmark for tourists passing through the west coast. California Joshua Tree, Channel Islands, Sequoia, Pinnacles, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Lassen Volcanic, Redwood, Death Valley (straddles Nevada.) Yosemite gets over 3 million visitors a year and was the third park in U.S. history to be designated a national park. Colorado Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Rocky Mountains. The Rockies are made up of over 60 different mountains, home to crystal clear lakes and a wide range of different exotic animals. Florida Dry Tortugas, Everglades, Biscayne. Hawaii Hawaii Volcanoes, Haleakala Kentucky


Mammoth cave. Maine Acadia. Michigan Isle Royale. Minnesota Voyageurs. Montana Glacier. Nevada Great Basin New Mexico Carlsbad Caverns. North Carolina Great Smokey Mountains (straddles Tennessee.) This is the most visited national park in the US, with 9.4 million visitors in 2007. North Dakota Theodore Roosevelt. Named after the president of the same name, named the "Greenest President in History." He's preserved many parks that eventually became national parks. Ohio Cuyahoga Valley. Made into a park in 2000, it's one of the youngest parks in the park service. Fun fact: an old junk yard was part of the park territory when the park service took over. Now that junkyard is populated by beavers. Oregon Crater Lake. South Carolina Congaree.


South Dakota Wind Cave. Texas Big Bend, Guadalupe Mountains. United States Virgin Islands The islands themselves are a US National Park. Utah Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Arches. Zion National Park is named after the Hebrew word, meaning "sanctuary." It's home to almost 300 species of birds. Visitors come to see some of the most unusual wildlife species on the planet. Virginia Shenandoah. Washington Mount Rainier, Olympic, North Cascades. Olympic gets almost 3 million visitors a year and has everything you could ask for from a national park. It has beaches, rain forests, glaciers, wild animals and more. Wyoming Grand Teton, Yellowstone (straddles Montana and Idaho.) Yellowstone was the first national park in the US and gets about 3 million visitors a year.
