HELLO!

From a very young age, I've enjoyed pursuing every new acivity that's come my way and it was on one of these quests that I fell in love with architecture. I have always been a big people-person, and I was captivated by the layers on which architecture tries to analyze and cater to human needs. I look forward to being an active part of the fraternity and contribute responsibly to the industry and the people.

Orienting and staggering the mass.

Concept

The sight of long corridors is often unpleasant, hence the single thread of connection throughout (both at site and building level) was to stagger the masses. First, the site masses are staggered with a water body acting as a guiding axis. Next, the individual building masses are cut through the middle (allowing light, air and nature to permeate in) and the volumes are displaced onto the next floor, which are aligned w.r.t to the site massing. 10

Splitting the blocks to accomodate guiding axis.

Houses are the most sacred environments to a family, a reflection of their culture & identity. This low-density, low-rise housing design peeps into the practical requirements of a household and the qualitative requirements of living in a community where occupany is always fluid.

Often in Military cantonments situated in remote locations, there's a pressure to provide for good leisure and commercial options for the hundreds of families that inhabit it. This is met with tight budgets and unavailability of materials that result in unplanned, rather mediocre complexes with limited footprint. This design is a landscape re-developement of one such commercial complex, taking care of both the practical constraints and user requirements.

CURRENT CONDITION

The landscape hasn't changed last 10-15 years. Amenities include a children's play area and an outdoor gym, demanded by the public but still underutilized. A central water fountain is often seen being used by children to loiter despite the play area. Despite the addition of new restaurants and bakeries, there's barely any seating to accomodate everyone. A huge chunk of the site is an old war memorial that stands neglected after a new one was established elsewhere.

200 m Dimensions

new requirements

After communicating with concerned admin and conducting a brief user survey, the following requirements were listed: A more discrete and accesible outdoor gymnasium for adults

Contour & Slope (1.2 m)

A dedicated greenhouse plaza for the local nursery vendors A safer more interactive water fountain for children to play A larger play area with seating for the adults Shaded outdoor dining and lounge spots close to the bakery 30

02 Two-story dining - cum - bakery plaza as an expansion to the extending bakery, reviving activity on the West side, inviting more shops to set up on that land.

03 A new, larger greenhouse plaza to promote and tie the cantonment Nursery within the shopping, promising better economic profit for the vendors.

Widening and demarcating a proper outdoor gym (that the public earlier hesitated to use due to it's odd placement), moving it closer to the main entrance with added privacy and easy outdoor access. 34

The main plaza is organised as a free-movement setup with adequate dining spots, outdoor lounges, an improved children's entertainment zone, complete with a fountain that is now accessible for the children to enjoy. Most materials are salvaged from within the existing development, reducing the need to transport new equipment. 35

This is a collapsible bamboo structure intended to cater to our dynamic and ever changing indian market cultures. It provides vendors with the convenience of eased transport without compromising on its functionality as a sheltered seating and display platform. The structure tries to maximize the use of vertical bamboo members to improve water drainage.
