JELLYFISH Academic Project: Co-working Office Space Design Course goals: Concept Development, Construction Document, Code Regulations, Material Specification Jellyfish have been proven to be the most efficient swimmers of all animals thanks to their flexibility in body forms to utilize water movements. Therefore, although diversify in species, all Jellies can easily adjust to different environments and grow really fast to create their close-knit community. Inspired by the concept of Jellyfish, Social Foundry, a coworking office space located in downtown Savannah, will effectively create a space that is flexible to use and develop a close-knit community that is suitable for a wide variety of customers to work efficiently.

Concept Diagram
Inspired by the movement of jellyfish, the layout of the floor plan in the morning, during working hours, will have one central big area connecting to many other spaces, all of which will be active. This central area combines of the reception area and the hour-ly renting space.
After 5pm, the Social Foundry office will close and the central space will turn into a retail showcase or event hosting area so that member companies can display their products or plan activities for branding and community engagement.

Jellyfish are found in both shallow and deep sea area. Most of them exist well above the ocean floor and come from a variety of species and colors. However, many other species, which are typically more “dangerous, spend their entire life
at the bottom. Some species migrate back and forth between the levels. This fact perfectly illustrates how the Social Foundry is designed for different people to feel comfortable in each area. 8

1. Central Hearth Long ago, humans discovered fire, allowing them to use the night time for creative activities. Fire also kept predators away, and thus is associated with home and safety. This symbol manifested itself when people would gather together on New Year’s

SECRET GARDEN Secret Garden is a residential project in the suburban area of Vietnam. The owner wants his farm house to have a traditional Vietnamese design while still maintain his family’s modern living style. In this internship, I had the chance to assist with digital model making, furniture layout, photography, and construction document. I also designed two wall decorative panels that the owner later on decided to install in his master bedroom.

These are the two wall decorative panels that I handmade for the house. These pieces are made with natural and very traditional objects that can be found easily in Vietnam’s rural areas such as rice bag, dried lotus pods, cordages or old wood sticks. The panels were later framed in wood.
I also designed this outdoor installation. The canopy was first designed to be wooden framed. However, I thought it would be better to have metal frames and install bamboo sticks on top. Convolve planted in front of the canopy can also create a cozy atmosphere. My idea was approved for constuction and this is the result. 24

PERSONAL WORK Exploring different computer softwares during free times is my favorite hobby. This helps me train my visual thinking and communication skills. Besides, practicing sketching and hand rendering also helps me analyze building arts around me and get inspired.
