The following work samples are from my first internship in Cape Cod at Keenan + Keeny Architects. These details were made using mostly AutoCAD. I was responsible to draft and complete details for several projects, such as small airports, churches and residential houses. I really learned from the variety of projects I was responsible for.

DETAILING AND CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS | DECK DETAIL

These details were made using AutoCAD. In this project I was responsible to draft a residential roof deck. The details of the deck took me a week. The challenging part was figuring out the exact detail of the deck. Completing this drawings enhanced my research and detailing skills.

Commercial Work These construction documents were made using Revit. It took me approximately two weeks to draft them considering the revisions. The biggest challenge for me was to be able to read the architect’s handwriting. However, after a while I got used to the key terms and I was able to understand his sketches faster.

The Courtship Act project celebrates Latvia’s unique nature reserve. More than 200 species of birds migrate here yearly. The project was conceptualized after the bird’s traditional mating rituals, Including ritualized movement and displays of beauty and strength, in the courtship act, birds uses these behaviors to attract their mate. The design uses the same mentality to attract the guests to the site. The 17 900 ft² original site has been extended in size to provide more space to enjoy the wildlife in the woods, and include a long, naturalistic walking path. Artificial slopes and handmade streams have also been added throughout the site to enhance the experience of the user. These walkways traverse an ever changing landscape from open streams to dense forests.

PAPE NATURE PARK COMPETITION | SITE ANALYSIS

pape nature park

This a glimpse of the studio I am currently in. In this studio, students from landscape architecture, architecture and interior design and design studies work collaboratively to design a site plan, building, and interior architecture. We explore programmatic organization, contextualization, site optimization and way-finding while being exposed to each discipline’s analytic processes and spatial thinking.

Our project for this semester is the “Pape Nature Park” competition in Latvia. I started by doing a site analysis of the site through online official documents and used Adobe Illustrator and Indesign to put my findings together.

26 pape nature park creative portfolio

Pape Nature Park is a “9 km Natural Process Path which takes visitors through five ecosystems: the lake, the meadow, the forest, the march and the dune.” The land is filled with wild animals such as goats and horses, it also offers its visitors beautiful orchid species that are rare in Latvia. Pape Nature Park is especially known for its birdwatching station which registers more than 200 species of migrating birds per year. “The park also includes the villages of Pape and Konu, with fishing homesteads that still maintain rich cultural and historical heritage as well as old building.” - From Latvia Travel’s official’s website. My inspiration for this project comes from the site itself. The natural and organic environment is a huge attraction for birds. I based my design on birds themselves. Inspired by feathers, biomimicry drives my design choices. From the main building to the benches we will see and experience the featherly shapes of birds wings through the site.

The site has been extended to allow camping structures to freely spread throughout the site. Artificial slopes were added to give a more organic feeling to the site and create more mysterious places for exploration and discovery.

Pape Nature Park Latvia The design for the Courtship Act is inspired by both the vibrant traditional Latvian landscapes and the organic fauna and flora of the site, especially the birds. I modeled my design after their plumage. Biomimicry and the influence of the feathers allowed me to shape my roof structures in a way that was organic and allowed natural light in. This creates a peaceful and relaxing space, that is notable as soon as you enter the site.

Furthermore, very light and sustainable materials are used to honor the sustainability and lightness of feathers.

34

Pape Nature Park Latvia A majestic gate attracts visitors from far just like a Whooper Swan attracts a mate. Besides attracting visitors to the site, the purposely monolithic gate sets a welcoming tone for the guest as they enter into the first gardens. After passing the first gardens and the main building the spreading forest and walkways invites the guest to freely explore the wild nature.

Inspired by the organic language of tree branches, the walkways spread throughout the site in a freeform manner. Along this meandering journey, one will find personal camping cabins, a sauna and sitting areas awaiting.

The goal of this studio class was to design a ferry terminal in Prince Street Park, Boston. The site is dead, so we had to come up with ideas to bring life back to the site. We were encouraged to think wildly and to be as creative as we wanted. We also had to choose a prececent study for inspiration and perform a lot of site analysis before starting our design. The Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe was my precedent study. Hand Collages, Charcoal Drawings, Adobe Creative Cloud and Revit were use to create the images of this project. The final model was lasered in wood, glass, cardboard and chipboard.

The goal of this studio class was to design a ferry terminal in Prince Street Park, Boston. The site is dead, so we had to come up with ideas to bring life back to the site. Throughout the site analysis, I came up with the fact that the site is surrounded by wild nature. From one side we have a lot of green, from the other side the sea coast. Additionally, the site is very accessible as it connects directly to the main street, the harbor walk and is two step away from the train station. The shape of my design will depend on the sun path and the natural ecosystem found around the site...
