SITE PLAN

Traveling to the city individually or for groups
The site in located in T-Nagar Chennai a central area famous for its commercial crowd. The site’s close proximity to the Railway station and mofussil bus terminus enabled the traveling youth to easily arrive at the Hostel.
The users here prefer to stay for a day to a month and they arrive here in a group or as individual. The major facilities that are required here is the rooms for both boys and girls, Administrative offices. Recreational facilities, and services
The linearity of the site gave an opportunity to plan the hostel by taking the shape of the site.
All the individual units are imagined to be knit into a single ribbon link form running throughout the site.
The singular form is further divided into three blocks - Boys
The central plaza which connects both the hostel blocks. It has the amenities and other recreational facilities.
All the three blocks are integrated by a cutout strip which runs from the boys to the girls hostel.
This open space leads to interaction at different levels . One at the individual hostel level and the other at the plaza level.
The Hostel blocks have open space for activities in the center of the blocks as well as the terrace in the first floor.
Buffers are provided at both the ends of the site for better noise suppression and also privacy from the roads and the neighborhood.
The Dining and kitchen are placed near the site boundary to make services easier and also to avoid overcrowding the central plaza.
Hostel block - 1 Hostel block - 2The Plaza lies in the lowest level at the site and the levels gradually increase towards the hostels. This creates a hierarchy as well as provides the users with a good view of what is happening around the hostel campus. The space around the hostels also double up as a walking or jogging track. This track is fully pedestrian and vehicles are allowed only in case of an emergency or to provide services to the hostels.
Exposed brick masonry s used to articulate the facades and the roof of the plaza buildings are covered with vegetation to make it a part of the ground . The plaza is accessible on both the sides and one part of it is an office for registration and the other part is entertainment room with indoor games and a cafe.
Terminally ill is a term used to refer to people who are suffering a chronic illness and are in the final stages of their lives.
These people spend the last days of their time alone in a small dull hospital room full of sadness and pain and the smell of medicines when they can happily spend time with family and friends in a very social and embracing environment with care takers who understand them.
The most avoided word while having conversations is death. But in reality death is a certainty, death is not a thing to be afraid of. Being scared of death and not talking of it only worsens the situation.
The users are categorized as the care receivers , care givers and the visitors
The care receivers are the patients and the care givers are the family , nurses and the doctors.
The site is located in Perur, Coimbatore. It is in the foothills of Western Ghats and has a Stream that runs inside the site. It provides a calm and serene environment for the users of the hospice.
The topography and the natural elements of the site play a major role in the planning in the planning of the site .
The stream divides the site into two parts making it easier to separate users into two regions of the hospice as Children zone and the adult zone.
A central axis running at the heart of both the zones act as the primary pedestrian movement facilitators in the campus.
Both the pathways meet at the western end of the site forming a bridge across the stream to connect the two zones
It is also used as an emergency /service route.
Considering the axis as the main focus of development the two zones are further divided into three smaller zones based on the usage and privacy.
The smaller zones are named Public, Semi Private and Private. The public zone has the offices and the Consultation areas and the Private Spaces are the accommodation and Therapy areas.
The spaces within the zones are planned in way that they provide a lot of green open spaces and views from most parts of the built spaces.
The accommodations are oriented towards the stream and has green pockets of space between them to maximize the connectivity with nature.
A Home for Terminally ill Cancer patients that provides care and support in the last stages of their lives
The Adult Hospice Accommodation is the most crucial area of the campus. Users spend majority of their time in their rooms and most of the care is given to them in their rooms. These rooms are designed in way each room takes maximum advantage of the view to the water-body. The rooms share a pocket of green space which acts as a courtyard to the living areas.
The staggering of rooms was done to facilitate cross ventilation to the living areas . This staggering layout also helped in creating the green courtyard inside the rooms which brought in more light as well as took the hot air out .
The rooms opened out on both the directions creating interactions ar different levels.
The Dining hall is located in between the public areas , Nurse apartment and the Hospice accommodation for easier access.
