Big Flock – “No Introduction” (Video)

Best known for his critically -acclaimed project The Great Depression. Mar yland recording ar tist Big Flock unveils his potentially biggest hit yet in the new video, “No Introduction”. In the visual, the rising star takes us through a night in the studio where he repor ts his new work ethic and what fans can expect in the new music. “No Introduction” recently premiered on Fader and is quickly becoming his biggest hit to -date .

August Brodie – “The Days” Today, Canada’s rising star August Brodie unveils his breakout debut called “The Days”. An emotion-driven song highlighting his cadence , vocal caliber, and songwriting, August Brodie creates a sonically pleasing record with some heavy production to glide across . “The Days” tells the stor y of August Brodie’s recent ascension in the music industr y while crooning over emotions associated with his rise . The Dutch Revz-produced single is inspired by the sounds of The Weeknd.

Mill Bill Breaks Out Written by Jhantu Randall With so many regions in hip hop, it’s easy for some towns , or entire states for that matter to get lost in the shuffle . A prime example of this is the ar tist Mill Bill, based out of Boise , Idaho. I know it may be hard to imagine hip hop having a hold on rural folks in predominantly red states but if you subscribe to the idea of the genre being a voice for the voiceless , you have to listen to the stories of those who really may reside on the outskir ts . Towns where in the dark, the life of the rebel is not only celebrated, it becomes mythical.

I admit that I was vaguely familiar with Mill Bill about a year or 2 ago but I never gave him too much attention. Not to say he wasn’t good, I always liked his deliver y and his songs definitely appealed to my ear but I guess I naively wanted something more that I couldn’t quite put into words . In actuality, maybe it was I who wasn’t ready to look at his work objectively at that point. Growing up in Pocatello, Idaho Mill Bill had been writing and putting music together for near ly a decade . His song “Crazy” featuring Mark Battles has at this point, become his biggest single he’s released pulling in 17 thousand views on Youtube as well as 65k on Twitter and 100k on Facebook. Say what you want, social media has given many ar tists the ability to create their own platforms and make countless oppor tunities for themselves while allowing them to control their own narrative . As an upcoming rapper, you’d think that Mill Bill would be all about hoarding the ear nings from his work and using it to propel himself only, but on the contrar y, during the holidays last year, Ill Bill stepped out into the community that shows him so much love and gave back. He put together a clothing drive which was able to successfully hand out over 800 coats to the homeless . It’s this grassroots connection and hardline drive to constantly stay moving that lead to him performing to a crowd of 20,000 people in Spokane , Washington in August of this year.

Universal Language Speaks Sound Into Existence It’s the day after Thanksgiving and as the itis, (food induced drowsiness for those who don’t know) begins to wear off, there’s a particular calm that accompanies the chaotic mood that tends to take over the season. It’s that exact feeling that lead me to give the album Sound Shape Color by Universal Language a listen. Still currently in the days of ignorance promoted and mumble rap being the expression, Universal Language’s album is the antithesis of it. Sonically pleasing and lyrically complex without being too verbose, their album “Sound Shape Color” possess’s a trackless that allows you as the listener to not only catch their vibe, but allows you to join in on riding the wave that they have created. With production that harkens back to the day of Digable Planets mixed with a sound that makes a group like Cunninlynguists stand out, Universal language has managed to merge the 2 while still taking it in their own direction without sounding like a knockoff. While not for everyone, this 24 track album allows the listener to just sit back and get lost in their thoughts as the music itself triggers memories and allows space to get lost in deep thought. The second track of the project entitled “Rhyme of the Ancients” solidifies this as each artist goes in with stanzas that just give off energy while it preps the listeners mind for what’s to come. “Writing on Trains,” “Star Searching,” “Eyes Wide Open,” and “The Sweet Life” are personal standouts, but the whole album gives off a positive feeling as there doesn’t seem to be any filler tracks. Each song conveys a clear message as the truth they spit in their lyrics resonates with an uplifting frequency.

Coach Joey – Call Me When You Get This (Mixtape) A follow up to his latest release , “This For You,” Coach Joey decided to take another shot at doing a project for the ladies . Call Me When You Get This is inspired by Joey wanting to get his ex back. Initially, just the name of a song he wrote about her, instead, decided to make it the name of the project.
