Filmed in downtown Newark just before the turn of the year, the pair trade verses over a hard edged gritty beat produced by Barcelona's Sumerio Square. Set on a verbal warpath, the seasoned veterans deliver punchline salvos of hard bars against weak representations and pale imitations in equal measure, dismantling defenses with the ease of prize fighters earning stripes for their home State. Check it out on Youtube. The album available from all streaming platforms and digital stores includes further production by Chicago's DNA Beatz, the UK's Chat One and award winning Clinton Place (aka Jamal Nueve NJ/LA) with New Jersey natives Fly Kwa, Confucious and Middy Murdock appearing as the additional guest featured artists.

Why Every Musician Should Use Bandcamp Written by Mistah Wilson Okay, my fellow musicians, it's time we have a heart to heart. And yes, it has something to do with streaming. In today's music climate, streaming services were a big part of the digital revolution that slid in right under our noses. In my opinion, capitalism tends to depreciate real value. You build something cool and unique, and when it reaches a certain point, you sell it. The buyer then implements their ideas for domination and everything that made that product or service valuable is now compromised. I've seen it happen way too many times. I even got to experience it for myself with Ning when I built ThaWilsonBlock Network on their platform. 2.0 had all the tools I needed to run a growing artist collective online. Once 3.0 dropped, they took away the option and conclusively purged my account.
Oddly enough, some websites on their platform still operate on their 2.0 version. They ended up selling out to Glam media. I call it "sell out" because they had many network creators who were well invested in their website platform.
And Glam thought they had a better idea in mind than what Ning had already established. Well, I was one of the network creators who more or less got pushed out the way. And so, that explains where we are today with ThaWilsonBlock Magazine. I was fortunate enough to find a way to leverage different tools and resources to keep what has evolved into a digital publication going for over 6+ years.
Why Every Musician Should Use Bandcamp See, when Ning was on 2.0, I was in full control, for the most part, of how I ran my social network. Artists were able to register very easily, upload their music, and be featured as an artist. When 3.0 came about, they took away the network's white-label media players in exchange for 3rd party services like YouTube and Soundcloud. And I didn't care too much for that. I mean, if I wanted to use those players I could've just embedded them anyway. Why would you take options away and think you're making it a better product? Kinda like when we had Boost Mobile Walkie Talkie Direct Connect cell phones. What was better than that direct connect chirp, tho? Unlimited everything. And the reason I can't embrace streaming is that I'm against the very statute that made it all possible. Internet toll lanes. We went from unlimited everything to having to pay for how much data we use. Internet service has essentially become a utility just like your light and gas bill. Well, I had to say all of that to help make sense out of my positioning on why every musician should use Bandcamp. You see, ever since I started uploading my
songs, Bandcamp has been part of the repertoire. Now, in all honesty, there was a time I had a falling out with Bandcamp and how they processed payments. That was when PayPal was a struggle to get set up. Hey, call me a noob, ion care.
I don't do streaming services because I don't need technology to suggest to me how to listen to music. I'm one of those dudes that got instrumentals on repeat and streaming services aren't helpful for that. That's my process when I'm writing songs and developing concepts. Streaming is so consumerdriven that all it does is suggest artists and music to me that I just don't listen to. I see Bandcamp as a platform that simplified the process for artists and fans alike. It makes it easy for fans to support songs, full projects, whole discographies, buy merch, and all that.
Why Every Musician Should Use Bandcamp Now, of course, we have to acknowledge the pros of streaming services. It does payout and it is a good model to monetize a catalog of music. However, there comes a time when the artist and musician has to weigh what matters most. I've got the impression that most artists who release music these days are quick to share their streaming links and when you ask them for a Bandcamp, Soundcloud, or YouTube link, they become stubborn, careless, and sometimes even rude. I guess you can attribute that to Bandcamp being a platform that takes a manual upload. CD Baby, Tunecore, and even Distrokid don't offer Bandcamp as a distribution service, I guess? To be honest, I don't know and I don't care. Bandcamp, in my strong opinion, is one of the most useful resources a musician or recording artist can ever have at their disposal. Do it for the fans who are still about the digital download. The download overrules the stream because it doesn't make sense to depend on a data connection to access music if our devices are already powered. Ya know, taking something away that was once free just so a group of people can solely benefit from it just puts a bad taste in my mouth. Streaming is a potential threat to the current platform that is Bandcamp.
But, even though I feel like BC is in a good place, it's nothing more than evolution. I mean, if we didn't spend our time trying to make things better, then what are we doing here, right? We'd be foolish to think that the buck stops here. If that were the case, there'd be no new version of the iPhone or the next year edition of your favorite car. But, as I mentioned earlier, if taking away what was once free just so a group of people can benefit, that's not evolution. That's just...fucked up lol. If you are an artist or musician reading this, then I'd strongly encourage you to get your entire catalog onto Bandcamp so that fans can directly support your music. You get your money instantly and the fan gains access to your files in different formats. I've bought hella music from artists on Bandcamp and even as a fan, it has proven to be a reliable source for curating a special collection of music. Why should you take it from me? Well, I conduct interviews with artists all the time. I create content for artists and help establish their profiles. I'm a blogger and journalist. So, when I say you should upload your music on Bandcamp, I'm suggesting you do yourself that favor. Help others help you; put yourself in a position to be assisted. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

WestCoast Gillie – “Judge Me Not” (Album Review) “Judge Me Not“, the latest full length 10-track project by Los Angeles based rapper WestCoast Gillie. Last year he dropped “Never Surrender“, and since then we’ve been looking forward to his progression as a independent artist. And with this pandemic quarantining everyone, many are pressured in dropping new music. But for Gillie, it’s easy for him. Listen to his into song, “Ahead of the Game”, and you will hear why he is ahead of the rest of his peers creating his own lane with his wordplay and beat selection. With the recent drop of the official video for, “I Ain’t Mad”, he shows the world that he ignores all the skeptics staying true to himself and to the game.
We love the fact that WestCoast Gillie worked with rising Los Angeles producer Misfit Soto who is no stranger to our site. No only do his beats match Gillie style, they also come from the same cloth, the streets of Los Angeles. Musically, when you can incorporate true life experiences from the streets and paint pictures for other to relate to with music, that shows true creativity. The track, “Not Like You”, he talks about his teenage years and how his growth as a man translates to his music. “Dubs Up”, we feel relates to his name reflecting his life living in the West Coast.
Young Black And Gifted (Azariah x Kidd Called Quest) “The Second Coming” (Album Review) Rating 7.5/10 Highlights: Production, Lyricism, Storytelling Young Black and Gifted, the rap duo comprised of Azariah on the mic and producer Kidd Called Quest, dropped “The Second Coming,” a fourteen track album that dives deep into the thoughts, struggles, and passions of a young black man and father. Azariah has a slower delivery akin to some of what many consider the Gold School Legends. Personally, his voice reminds me of Shai Linne (a name I expect few of you to know), with a hint of Andre 3000. During my first listen, I wasn’t terribly impressed with his wordplay, focusing more intently on his subject matter. However, after multiple playthroughs, I can say without a a doubt that the man has some bars. I don’t consider all of his lines to be shining examples of creativity and wordsmithing, but there are definitely a few gems to be dug up here and there. But just as my focus was not initially his use of metaphors and double entendres, neither is his. Azariah has a powerful ability to relay emotion and share his thoughts and beliefs through music. I’m genuinely always hesitant to call a project “woke” or “conscious” at first, because there are way too many artists that claim the title but are strictly surface level. That is not the case with “The Second Coming.” It’s jam packed with the two artists’ real perspectives, discussing both problems and some solutions to those problems, and that to me is what makes this album so respectable. That’s not to say that every song is about a particular social issue. In fact, they’ve mixed in a fair handful of pure brag raps, changing the tone at appropriate moments.
Seven Da Pantha , an emcee at hear t, has been as persistent as anyone in tha field of recording & performing music . With his recent release of K4G 1.5, we caught up wit' Seven to discuss tha inspiration behind this effor t. Seven Da Pantha is already sending a message by way of him being tha only lyricist on tha project. I appreciate tha fact that I don't hear anyone else in his music . When I listen to Seven Da Pantha
songs, it reminds of me Seven Da Pantha and no one else . I sought this Q&A session w/ Seven Da
Pantha in acknowledgement for tha love he has for his craft. His aura projects a commanding respect for tha game and since you can't deny his versatility, Da Pantha is en
route to pioneering his own unique sound. Personally, I've experienced tha energy Seven brings to tha stage . He knows how to incorporate critical thought into club -ready
material. He electrifies tha room with a resonating presence . Couple that with tha swag and you got an emcee that's gon mean trouble for a lot of ar tists.
“North Carolina til’ I’m in the tomb,
But Tac be the spot where I’m makin’my moves”
If you suppor t tha local ar ts, I'd like to recommend this EP for your collection. Enjoy our Q&A session and take 20 minutes out cha day to get a bar of some real, raw rap. If you rockin' wit it, go ahead and buy it. Big shout out to tha Pacific Nor thwest, tho!
Cover Story
Mistah Wilson: Seven Da Pantha! What's good, fam! You know we
here to check-in real quick on that K4G 1 and a half times! I noticed you got some covid bars in there. What's tha aim with this project? Seven Da Pantha: Yea man, I didn't want to overdo it with the Corona references, but you definitely want to include tidbits to give the people a feeling for the time the music was made. The main aim was really
just to speak my truth and share a little bit of me with the people who have been along for the ride.
“My thoughts float into a dark place, no light in sight And still no place for you to hide Mistah Wilson: What is tha meaning behind K4G 1.5?
Seven Da Pantha: K4G is short for Kwest 4 Greatness, the original LP Kwest and I dropped in 2015. I titled it 1.5 because of the brevity, as the original was 15 tracks. The full-length follow-up Kwest 4 Greatness 2 is in the works.
Mistah Wilson: Now, how old was tha young grad in tha album cover? Seven Da Pantha: Ha!! I was 5 years old in that picture man. The photo was from my graduation from Head Start.
Mistah Wilson: In tha intro song, you mentioned "I don't make trap music, and I don't mumble, neither". Can you elaborate for tha cats in tha back? Seven Da Pantha: No doubt! Essentially I was saying that even though we may include elements of trap music the content makes it a whole different thing. No disrespect to those who flourish in those
genres, but I see a deeper purpose for the music.
Mistah Wilson: "Believe" is one of them songs you be looking for from your favorite rappers, na mean? How did you come together w/
Kwest to produce this EP? Seven Da Pantha: Kwest is actually a part of my crew Soundchamba Productions. We've been making music together since around 2010. We decided to link up for the original Kwest 4 Greatness in 2015, we realized the chemistry we had was pretty potent. So going back in for the re-up was a no-brainer. "Believe" is, at it's very core, a mission statement of sorts, in addition to being a question for the listeners. i state a lot about what my goals for domination are, but at the same
time, imploring the listeners to have faith in the process.
Mistah Wilson: Your cut "Demons" is a reflection of one's own thoughts and how we converse with our conscious. What led you to cover such a concept on a song? Seven Da Pantha: Bro, real talk, "Demonz" is probably one of the realest songs I've ever written. I just decided that, instead of doing what most rappers do and pretending things are all good, I would
shine some light on the issues I deal with daily. No rich nigga fantasies or delusions of grandeur; just me cracking the door a bit to what my everyday reality is.
“Trying to show you love to counteract all the hate Strange how it made my day watching you walk away
Mistah Wilson: "6am" really has that vintage East Coast rap sound. What message are you trying to convey on this one? Seven Da Pantha: "6am" is the perfect storm of Honey Jack, Green
Crack, and depressing early morning thoughts. I went through a really rough stretch and found myself up at 6 in the morning getting wasted before time to go to work. The lyrics to that song are the random thoughts racing through my mind on those occasions.
Mistah Wilson: "All Night" got that Whispers touch in there. Appreciate you keeping soulful. What's tha meaning behind this one? Seven Da Pantha: "All Night" is a glimpse at a different side of Seven
Da Pantha. The song was inspired by a very special young lady who shall remain nameless. Sometimes you have to step outside of the norm. I wanted to give people an idea of how my mind ticks in relation to the fairer sex when I'm in "get it" mode...lol Mistah Wilson: What's your personal favorite song off this EP and why? Seven Da Pantha: My personal fave? It would have to be "See Me In
It". I love that song because it's a great balance between style and lyricism. And the hook...I can't stop singing it! Mistah Wilson: Where can people find and follow you online? Seven Da Pantha: FB: Seven Da Pantha IG: @sevendapantha253 Tw: @sevdapantha YouTube: Seven Da Pantha Also follow me on whatever DSP you use to stream music. The Hardest Blood Rapper Out Right Now Ya know, usually, it takes something real to open people up to new things . As we grow older, we become set in our ways and it takes a unique experience to receive something new. I can attest to that myself. When rapper The Game was preparing for the release of "The Documentar y" back in 2005, I remember seeing him on 106 & Park as I got ready for school that mor ning. I remember saying out loud to myself, "Mannn, ain't nobody bouta buy that shit!" But, as soon as it dropped, it was hands down my favorite album! Cats was giving tha year 2005 to Jeezy, but if I heard you say that, I was definitely gon' remind you of The Game's debut project. It wasn't long before I memorized that entire album. Even tha 300 Bars , I got it all memorized .
Watch "I'm So LA" music video by Figg Newton
It kinda happened tha same way with Macklemore . My boy Mr. McStrange put me up on game with his video "The Town" and I admit, I was impressed, but not sold. As soon as he dropped The Heist, I remember walking thru Target one night and seeing it on tha shelves . I said to myself," Mannn, ain't nobody bouta cop that shit!" That week, a friend of mine made it a point for me to listen to Macklemore's The Heist album. He gave it to me on a thumb drive and told me to take 2 weeks , listen to it, and get back to him. Well, I did just that. And, I must say, I gave tha album a healthy review. From that point on, Macklemore influenced my idea for Pasadena Music Scene . And now, Figg Newton. Coming from one of tha most legendar y Blood sets in Los Angeles . Now, first off, let me say for tha record that I have never personally met Figg Newton yet so I have no reason to sugarcoat anything in this ar ticle . He's a rapper I've heard people talk about sporadically
over tha years . But, nobody personally suggested his music to me . Well, I was browsing YouTube one day and I came across some of his content. By this time , I've already heard of him. So, I felt moved to see what he was talkn bout. When I first watched tha music video for "We Star ted The Woop" ft. Big Wy is when I really star ted to pay attention. "I ain't talkn bout my life
and what I say in tha booth, but uh, you can catch a fade if what I say ain't tha truth".
"BEENOTE" music video by Figg Newton
Fi g g N e w t o n
The Hardest Blood Rapper Out Right Now Inspired by tha likes of Big Wy, Mitchy Slick, and B. Brazy, Figg Newton's passion for life emanates thru his lyrics . "Kan't stop it, my
nigga, I know tha code /// Climb tha totem pole , when you lear ning on Figgaro". You can feel just how serious he is as he delivers raw concepts on life growing up in tha hood. His recent banger "Kant Stop Woopin" is a pure classic! So much so that I spent damn near a whole week just playing that song! I couldn't even get past the first verse , it was so hard! My favorite line in that song is when he said," Nigga, I'm pushin' kapital B's and P's National, Hoppin' out irrational, nigga, diss I'm smashin' you". I just never heard a Blood rapper come off that hard, bro str8 out! And it was that cut that inspired me to write this ar ticle proclaiming Figg Newton as "The Hardest Blood Rapper Out Right Now". With much love & respect to B. Brazy, Newton doesn't disappoint.
I had to peep tha inter views that Figg Newton and Big Wy did with Urban City TV and it gave me a good idea of where they was at when I was growing up. Figg Newton today is a symbol of evolution founded on homage , respect, and admiration for his predecessors who undoubtedly made their mark in LA music if not Wor ldwide . Now, if you are no stranger to South Central LA, then you already know what life is like
growing up on Figueroa Street. From pimpin & prostitution to gang banging and excessive police activity, Figueroa is one of them melting pots a person can lose their life quick. To actually grow up in this area being surrounded by potential enemies can say a lot about a person's resilience . Especially when you pushing a line like Figg Newton. Spending some time down in San Diego, Newton made a name for himself throughout different pockets of SoCal. When I hear his music, I regain appreciation for that rare authenticity in gangsta rap. "Real DAMU, not these niggaz
that's out here actin' cute" @FiggNewton "BEENOTE“
My absolute favorite songs by Figg Newton are "I'm On", "BEENOTE", and tha one that made me a fan "Kan't Stop Woopin". I just downloaded all his tapes off tha Piff so I've got some catching up to do. I might even write a mixtape review on a few of his projects . His song "Lanelife" resonated with me a bit since I'm already familiar with my young DENA niggaz on tha Westside . Shout out Young Ive & Lil Byrd, tho! "You ain't gotta be all that, tho, you ain't wit tha full bullshit, fall back bro". I hear that song and it reminds just how serious gang banging is . From doing time in prison to getting back out and on his shit, you can't do nothing but respect it. When I heard that "Pill Call" diss
track on Daz Dillinger, it let me know that Newton is tapped in. It showed that he's willing to back up what he say in his raps . Now, I can't say Figg Newton is "The Hardest Blood Rapper Out Right Now" without mentioning other local heavyweights such as Joe Moses , FT Hopout, and RJ. These are tha ar tists reprenting tha B-side in LA that carr y weight. And you gotta give all of them their just due for tha work they put in. But, as for me , I got Figg Newton in tha tape deck and now for some reason I just kan't stop woopin. Gotta appreciate tha consistency. FastLane Figg has been putting pressure on tha game and got quite a few projects under his belt. Heavy on tha mixtape circuit, in 2013, he dropped "FIGG NEWTON PRESENTS THE WAKE UP" mixtape with 18 cuts for ya and numerous more such as "U Figg Me", "The Extraz", & "The Plug" all available for free download on Datpiff. Couple that with recent videos like "BEENOTE", "Ain't It A Shame", and "Figg Raised" and you got a star from tha streets that's destined to become a household name . You can cop his latest album "U Figg Me 2" available on all platforms right mfn now!
Fi g g N e w t o n
The Hardest Blood Rapper Out Right Now At this point, I'm follwing Figg's latest releases . It's never too long before he's dropping something new on tha YouTube channel so make sure you hit that bell icon on tha subscription. In a day and age when tha game is convoluted, you can rely on FastLane Figg's authentic narrative of life growing up in these streets . With much love , respect, and admiration for Blood rappers such as The Game , Jay Rock, and YG , I gotta give it up for Figg Newton. And I say that being a tremendous fan of these rap ar tists . It was a bit surprising to not see a Figg Newton & Nipsey Hussle collaboration although Newton did his par t sampling tha late great
Hussle Man on his mixtape . I'd like to see Figg collab wit' FT Hopout, Snoop Dogg, Eastside Johnny, and The Game . I just feel like big homies in
tha game oughta reach out to tha Figgaro ridah and put him all tha way on. But, we'll see what happens . Ya Figgadeal me , tho. 2 •••
