Visit Marlborough Marlborough’s stunning location at the top of the South Island is one of New Zealand’s most spectacular destinations. You will be spoilt for choice here, the perfect destination to host your next business event is at The Portage. Our experienced and professional team look forward to hosting your next event at The Portage.

The Portage The Portage is located fifteen minutes by water taxi from Picton to the Torea Bay wharf followed by a short four minute drive (pre booked) or a thirty minute walk over the saddle to the hotel. Alternatively, it's a 1.25 hour drive from Picton by sealed road along Queen Charlotte Drive. And only 1.50 hour drive from Blenheim via Havelock. This stunning and unique location is accessible by road, water or air. The hotel can transfer guests to and from Torea wharf only at preorganised times.

Group transfers A number of ferry, bus and helicopter operators have special arrangements with The Portage to transfer guests for meetings and special events. Quotations can be provided by email on request.

Kayak Hire The Marlborough Sounds offers some of the best sea kayaking experiences in New Zealand. Escape the crowds and enjoy spectacular views and abundant wildlife. You will be able to spot wildlife exclusive only to the Marlborough Sounds while exploring beautiful turquoise waters.

Stand-Up Paddleboard Hire Experience the peaceful, mirror-like water and rent a stand-up paddleboard. This relaxing activity is a great way to start your day and experience the waters in a whole new way!

The Queen Charlotte Track Surrounded by gorgeous coastal views and native bush, the Queen Charlotte Track is one of the most exciting and unique tracks in New Zealand. Located only 700m away from the hotel, you can either walk or cycle the Queen Charlotte Track. With options of cruise and pack transfers, delicious food and wine, whether you’re here for one day or five, the Queen Charlotte Track is brilliant every day.

Games After a long day inside, grab the team and try one of the many lawn games we have available including – volleyball, badminton, croquet, lawn bowls and more. Get set-up on one of our beautiful lawn areas and enjoy the view!

Accommodation At the Portage we offer forty two spacious suites and accommodation for up to one hundred guests. All suites have an open plan bedroom, en suite bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities and a private balcony or patio. The best part is all of our accommodation options have stunning views of the Marlborough Sounds or surrounding native bush.

Weka Room 1 – 2 BEDS / 2 PEOPLE / COURTYARD VIEW Nestled amongst native bush, our cosy Weka rooms are a perfect option for the budget-conscious traveller. The Weka room can sleep up to two people with the option of either a super king bed or two singles. Each room has their own private en-suite, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini fridge for your use. Seating is available right outside the room to enjoy the surrounding nature.

Korimako Room 2 -4 BEDS / 2-4 PEOPLE / OCEAN VIEW Korimako Rooms are our standard-level rooms. These rooms types enjoy views across the centre of the hotel down to the stunning Portage Bay. Both room options have either a sun deck or sun-room and both feature large sliding windows and great outlooks.

2 persons The elevated position of our Korimako rooms are perfect for enjoying the breath-taking views of the Kenepuru Sounds while sitting on your private deck soaking up the sun. These rooms can fit up to two people and can come with either a super king bed or two twin beds. Each room has a private en-suite bathroom, a mini fridge and tea and coffee facilities. 4 persons These Korimako rooms are perfect for small families to stay together and enjoy the views across the centre of the hotel down to Portage Bay. Featuring a sunroom rather than a deck. These rooms are sun and light filled and sleep up to 4 people with a super king bed and two singles or can be configured into four singles. These rooms can be booked as interconnecting rooms to hold larger groups up to 8 people (two rooms).

Korimako Two Bedroom 3 – 5 BED / 1-5 PEOPLE / OCEAN VIEW Our two-bedroom Korimako rooms are elevated on the hillside, offering stunning views over the spectacular Kenepuru Sound. These rooms are perfect for families or small groups who are wishing to stay together while still having the privacy of two separate rooms. Choose to sit on one of the two private decks in the room and watch the stunning sunsets across the Marlborough Sounds. These rooms are perfect for families or small groups who are wanting to stay together while still having the privacy of two separate rooms. These 2 storey rooms can comfortably hold up to 5 people with the beds configured into either a super king and three singles or two kings and one single bed. The two-bedroom room has a shared en-suite, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini-fridge for your use.

Tui Terraces 1 BED / 2 PEOPLE / OCEAN VIEWS Referred to as our most popular rooms, the Tui Terraces offer the most magical views over of the Kenepuru Sounds due to its perfect position. With its large private deck you can watch the boats arrive into the Bay from one of the most peaceful parts of The Portage The Tui rooms can comfortably sleep up to two people with a super king or two single beds. The rooms have a contemporary ensuite, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini fridge for your convenience.

Kereru Suites 1 BED / 1 – 2 PEOPLE / OCEAN VIEWS The Kereru rooms offer a more spacious room that’s bathed in sunlight and overlooks stunning views of Portage Bay. These rooms can comfortably fit up to two people in a super king bed. Relax and unwind in the luxury of a large spa to really embrace this most scenic location.

Exclusive use for your event You may want to consider booking the resort exclusively. This provides flexibility to choose from all our various venue options.
