FOREWORD On behalf of all of us at the EIC and the 2020-2021 EIC Connect USA Advisory Board, I welcome our distinguished speakers, sponsors and exhibitors, supporting and media partners, and delegates as we come together to identify opportunities across the energy value chain. Since EIC Connect Oil & Gas USA in October 2017, much has happened across the energy sector, which is evidenced by our rebranding to EIC Connect Energy USA last year. That rebranding is holding strong as can be seen in today’s agenda. Where in 2017-2019 we focused on the oil and gas sector optimising operations and centralising project delivery, consolidation, supply chain and OEMs innovating and driving down costs; what we termed as the ‘new energy market’ is now one of transition in every way with ambitions towards net-zero, cost reductions, innovation, consolidation, adoption of new technologies and verticals – a kaleidoscope of opportunity across all sectors. I think it is safe to say that these shifts in the energy landscape will impact all stakeholders across the industry, while providing a new market dynamic for all of us. www.the-eic.com
Amanda Duhon Regional Director, North & Central America
We are honoured to be joined by speakers from some of the major players involved in regional projects. We will be joined by keynote speakers such as bp’s Kirsty McCormack, Senior Vice President Market Insights and ExxonMobil’s Ileana Ferber, Local Content Manager, Global Sustainable Procurement. We are also honoured to receive Her Majesty’s Consul General in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma from the British Consulate-General Houston, Richard Hyde to officially open EIC Connect, and Chuck McConnell, Executive Director, Carbon Management and Energy Sustainability with the University of Houston for the opening keynote address: Global Market Outlook and the Energy Transition. Delegates will also hear from Bechtel, Wood and McDermott on their view of current market conditions, near and future opportunities, procurement processes including pre-qualification, registration, key contacts, major contracts coming out for tender in the next two years, standardisation, local content, net-zero ambitions, energy transition strategies and more during the briefing sessions. Company briefing sessions allow delegates to learn firsthand from operators and contractors how to position themselves to win business in the US.
3
The conference sessions, as well as revealing what products and services the regional operators and contractors are looking for, address the rise in renewables, greening operations, how the industry is adapting through transformative technology, and innovating through new strategies to drive opportunities across the energy value chain. We will begin the day with a US market update presentation from our Senior Regional Analyst, Americas, Pietro Ferreira. From current market trends to current and future contracting opportunities, our EIC experts will highlight major areas of capital spend and supply chain opportunities across upstream, midstream and downstream, renewables and energy transition technologies. Following the update, we will hear from speakers Neil Golding, Director Business Intelligence, EIC and Ram Iruvanti, Product Line Director, TechnipFMC who will discuss what the current state of play means for the energy supply chain. We close the day with a distinguished panel of speakers for a ‘fire-side chat’ so to speak, around the energy transition and the reality to 2050. Considering presentations throughout the day, our speakers will take a forward look to 2050 and address some key aspects of the changing dynamic of our industry such as our people and knowledge to move forward, the net-zero timeline and project financing. We are sure to see continuing shifts as we move closer to and post COP26 this year.
Perhaps the most exciting EIC development for the region has been the release of EICAssetMap for the Gulf of Mexico region, the only O&M database to map all major US and Mexico energy facilities across all energy sectors. This tool can open a whole new market for our members, enabling those traditionally CAPEX focused companies to make the move into the highly lucrative, but also very competitive, OPEX market. We have also released our latest EIC market intelligence product, EIC Inform which is a bespoke market intelligence service to support businesses, government departments and non-government organisations to gain a better understanding of energy industry sectors, local markets and available business opportunities, globally. A huge thanks to our event sponsors, gold digital sponsors Armaturen, Hare, Merrimac International Executive Search, Unger and Roxtec, our silver digital sponsors HKA, iPS Powerful People, LV Shipping & Transport, PPG, SNC-Lavalin and UnitBirwelco, and our bronze digital sponsors ACE Winches, ALMACO, Gaffney Cline & Associates, IK, Pentagon Freight, Siemens, Tellurian, Turner & Townsend, Petrofac, PetrolValves Group and PERMA-PIPE. I would also like to thank our supporting partners at the UK Department for International Trade and Scottish Development International, as well as our media partners at the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, the British-American Business Council of Texas and the Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce.

FOREWORD Welcome to Virtual EIC Connect Energy USA 2021! This two-day conference is an opportunity for companies to come together virtually to share opportunities, challenges and experiences during what is a challenging time for everyone. These challenges are most acutely felt by the energy industry, an industry that is at something of a crossroads. The speed of the shift in public and industry opinion on climate change has transformed consumer and shareholder demands. Major companies like bp and Shell are responding and others, including the major US players are following. The collapse in the oil price last year, swiftly followed by a global pandemic and a cratering of demand for energy has accelerated change in the industry. The transformation of tone of the conversation at CERAweek last month was dramatic in comparison to their last event in 2019. In the UK for sure, but increasingly in the US too and notably in Texas, it is all about energy transition. Industry leaders recognise that in order to survive their industry has to embrace this transition; and it is. www.the-eic.com
Richard Hyde Her Majesty’s Consul General, Houston
This year the UK will host COP26 and the UK aims to be a global leader on energy transition and climate action. The UK was the first industrialised economy to make a legally-binding net zero commitment, and we recently announced our 10 Point Plan for a green industrial revolution. This will mobilise £12 billion of UK government investment towards our domestic low carbon transition, unlocking three times as much private sector investment by 2030. This growing clean energy capability will provide significant export opportunities as the world strives towards net zero. Our Department for International Trade (DIT) team working closely with our EIC partners, plays a critical role in realising the UK government’s climate change objectives by promoting clean exports, encouraging investment into the UK’s low carbon economy, and supporting international ambitions to accelerate the global energy transition. We proactively support the UK renewable energy sector including through a number of ongoing campaigns and are now working to support clean growth across all sectors through a new clean growth unit. Our UK and international regional networks are focussing resource and effort on the clean energy agenda, expanding our ability to provide on the ground, direct support to exporters.
5
The State tripled its solar capacity last year. It is now the second largest US producer of solar power, with ambitions to overtake California within five years.
The Energy Industries Council (EIC), with its presence around the world in major energy centres, including here in the US, is an important partner in realising our ambitions. This vital, symbiotic relationship exists at the following levels: • The EIC is a valuable partner in ensuring its rich and diverse membership from across the energy supply chain is aware of the different assistance schemes (like the UKEF support) the UK government has on offer for companies transitioning to clean energy and growth. • The EIC offers valuable feedback to the government on the industry’s plans for a low carbon future, they highlight where government intervention and support is helpful and report on the challenges companies face. • The EIC can work closely with DIT in key locations to help British companies identify opportunities in the region and work together to access them. A clean energy revolution is taking place across the United States too; underscored by the steady expansion of the US renewable energy sector. This is demonstrated most clearly in Texas, the ancestral home of US oil and gas. Texas is the largest producer of wind energy in the western hemisphere and last year in Texas more energy was produced from wind than from coal for the first time; this is a staggering statistic, as just 10 years ago, coal was king. After some initial hesitance, Texas has seen major investment in solar in the last few years.
The clean energy industry generates hundreds of billions of dollars in economic activity, and is expected to continue to grow rapidly in the coming years. There is tremendous economic opportunity for UK businesses in the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, electric networks, energy storage, energy efficiency, hydrogen, carbon capture and the adaptation and energy resilience sectors. The investments being made at the sub-national level in the US will only increase in the coming decades as states aim to meet their emissions targets and federal government moves forward with its pledge to make confronting the climate crisis a top priority. The British Consulate-General Houston is grateful to the EIC, with support from its event sponsors and partners, and to the EIC Connect advisory committee colleagues for organising this year’s event in the midst of the global pandemic. There is no other event like this in Houston and I am confident it will be of the highest value to the UK energy supply chain and industry stakeholders. We look forward to the next two days of learning about innovative solutions and market opportunities across energy sectors.
