Herb and Jeanne Mayer, founders of the Herbert R. and Jeanne C. Mayer Foundation, believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives. They saw their entrepreneurial success as a way to “pay it forward” for the greater good. Now their four granddaughters - Sarah, Katelyn, Amanda, and Rachel – cherish the opportunity to give back in a way that would “make our Nana happy.”
“Our grandparents loved the desert and spent a lot of time here. It was a time of joy and relaxation,” explains Sarah. “Although we all lived in the LA area, our family loved to go ‘down on the desert’ every chance we got. One of our favorite things to do was go to The Living Desert Preserve!”
“Our entire family shares a deep love of and respect for nature and animals,” says Katelyn. “These cherished memories with our grandparents shaped our lives, making us better people. The Living Desert is a perfect place for young people to learn that animals and nature are important and worth protecting.”
