What started out as an informal trip to one of the poorest countries has turned into a reoccurring pilgrimage that benefits not only the Haitian children but also anyone from the Sooner family who goes. “This was my third trip, and the one thing I always take away from these missions is seeing just how big my God really is,” senior guard Whitney Hand said. Construction to restrict OU walkways

Asp Avenue has been reduced to one-way traffic due to construction at the northern end of the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium parking garage. The construction will end before the beginning of the fall semester, said Kathleen Sandefer, Architecture and Engineering Services assistant to the director. Pedestrians have access to some areas of the sidewalk but will be rerouted as other sections are closed off, Sandefer said. Rudy Construction Co. subcontracted Manhattan Construction Group to complete the project, which is estimated to cost $1.4 million, Rudy Construction President Doug Walker said. “We are completely redoing the street from the ground up,” Walker said. A former director of Union Activities at the Oklahoma Memorial Union donated money to help fund the renovation of the University Club in the union. Jan Marie Crawford of Denver made the gift in her name and that of her late husband, Richard J. Crawford. The union space occupied by the University Club will be named in perpetuity as the Jan Marie and Richard J. Crawford Faculty Club. Crawford asked that her total donation amount be kept private, university spokesman Michael Nash said. Renovations at the University Club will be made to both the dining and kitchen areas, allowing for a more expanded menu. There also will be space configurations made to provide for meeting spaces. Crawford was the director of Union Activities in the 1960s. She led the first OU student trip to Russia and was one of the first students to study Higher Education Administration at OU. A nationwide network named OU as one of few Oklahoma colleges and universities to promote LGBT equality. The TEN Institute released a report on the gains of LGBT equality in Oklahoma universities. Although 73 percent of Oklahoma higher education facilities continue to have no policies that support and protect the LGBT community, there has been a 9-percent gain since 2010, according to the report.
