DIY: QUOTE CANVAS If you need a gift for someone you share a lot of interests with, making them a quote canvas could be the answer. This way, you give them a gift that means something to both of you, and a gift that they can decorate with. And, whenever you visit them, you’ll see your gift.
THINGS YOU NEED First, you need a canvas of any size. This depends on what quote you plan to use and how much time you can commit to making the canvas. Graphite paper isn’t required, but if you’re worried about the design turning out exactly how you want it to, this may be a good purchase. You will also need paint, brushes and paint pens, depending on the design.
HOW TO MAKE IT Choose a quote and write it out on paper, exactly as you want it to look on the canvas. This may take some work, but having a personalized gift will be worth it.

THE GUY STUCK AT WORK
All work and no play makes a long shift in the office feel impossible. Every once in a while, even the most diligent worker needs a break. For example, a desktop game like mini skeeball provides a distraction for the guy who occasionally needs to step back from his office duties. This tabletop game costs about $30. Instead of tossing a ball, it comes with spring that launches a mini ball forward, making it feasible to play at work without breaking things.
BOYS’ NIGHT Once you have a design chosen, either draw it onto the canvas or transfer it using graphite paper. Once the design is on the canvas, you can begin painting.
Everyone needs a poker set. There are a variety of cases to choose from, ranging anywhere from $20-$100. The heavy-duty aluminum briefcase offers reliable protection for all cards and chips, and also provides an easy form of transportation. The lightweight briefcase can be stored away for poker nights at home, or easily packed up for poker games on the go.
SUITING UP DOESN’T HAVE TO MEAN BUSINESS
Once the canvas is painted, let it dry. You can use paint to touch up any problem areas. Now you have a gift that can be displayed and will showcase shared interests.
Every guy needs plenty of ties. Most people just buy ties for work, so why not get him a tie that’s fun to wear when the dress code isn’t quite as strict? Whatever his interest, from science to comic books to sports, there’s a tie available for him. Ties come in a variety of prices, so it shouldn’t be hard to find one in your budget.
IF THEY BLEED CRIMSON AND CREAM
Check out the OU Alumni Store for everything OU on your holiday wish list. Get him something to help show off that he’s a Sooner fan at work, or maybe something to keep him warm on game day. No matter who he is, there’s a perfect gift for any Sooner fan here.
GIFT GUIDE
THE RELAXED ARTIST If you thought coloring books were just for kids, you were wrong. Any art lover would be happy to receive an elaborate coloring book as a gift. This gift provides hours of entertainment, and the opportunity for the person to get creative.
THE SOONER FAN With so many options at the OU Alumni Store, you’ll certainly be able to find that perfect gift. With clothes, collectibles and everything in between there is no doubt you’ll find exactly the right gift to help her show off of her OU pride wherever she goes.
HELP HER MAKE AN IMPRESSION Whether hitting the gym or walking on campus, leggings are a staple of comfort - and can also be a great way to show off personality. Foodies might appreciate a quirky pair of french fry leggings, while fleece-lined leggings are perfect for the outdoorsy woman. A good pair of leggings can cost as little as $15.
COFFEE LOVERS If she loves coffee, she can never have too many mugs. A mug with her monogram is a great way to give her something personalized that costs less than $20. Sassier caffeine addicts will appreciate mugs that display witty quotes. If her taste is more artistic, look for mugs with watercolor designs and patterns that include some of her favorite colors.
DIY: PHOTO WREATH If you’re looking for a gift that’s simple and sentimental, a photo wreath may be just the thing. With some cardboard, patterned paper, clothespins and photos, you have a gift that’s sure to impress.
THINGS YOU NEED First, you need a 12”x12” piece of cardboard. The thicker the cardboard, the sturdier the wreath. Next, you’ll need patterned paper. Two sheets should be enough, but if you’re worried about making mistakes, three might be better. You’ll also need adhesive or hot glue, and clothespins. You can use as many or as few clothespins as you like, but 24 fills out the space nicely. You will also need ribbon to hang the wreath. Finally, you need pictures to fill the wreath: You can also use notes, movie ticket stubs or even hot chocolate packets to add variety.
HOW TO MAKE IT First, cut your cardboard into a wreath shape. It’s best to make the circle about as wide as the clothespins, but you can change this if you want to. Next, cover the cardboard with the patterned paper. You can use any kind of adhesive for this, but hot glue is recommended because it lasts longer. Next, glue the clothespins to the wreath. Do this with the end that will hold the pictures facing away from the center of the wreath. You can decorate your clothespins however you choose, whether it be paint, patterned paper or even glitter. Next, attach your ribbon to the back of the wreath. You can make the ribbon as long or as short as you want. Finally, add your pictures to the wreath. This is where the gift becomes personal. Add in photo booth pictures, postcards or notes you’ve given or received. Now, you have a gift that means something to the recipient and that was easy to make.

STAYING IN ON STINSON
When searching for gifts and getting into the holiday spirit, some students don’t even need to leave their apartment complex. The Reserve on Stinson, said Leasing and Marketing Manager Mario Brown, does a variety of things to provide a fun, homey atmosphere during the holiday season. Abbi Melrose often does not get to go home for the holidays, as her family lives in Brighton, England. She said she appreciates everything The Reserve does to make residents like herself feel at home during the holidays. “I’ve lived at The Reserve for about three years now, and I really like it,” Melrose said. “Personally I don’t decorate my apartment, but the dinners and the overall atmosphere creates cheer.” Since 2008, The Reserve on Stinson has held an annual holiday dinner for its residents. Usually, at least 100 people pile into the clubhouse for the event. “We do an annual holiday dinner for our residents that is one of most well-attended events of the year,” Brown said. “The staff cooks holiday staples such as turkey, ham and macaroni and cheese.” The Reserve often includes a community service component into the dinner, asking residents to bring canned food items with them to donate to charity. A few of the residents even win presents during The Reserve’s “Tacky Christmas Sweater” contest. In previous years, the residents with the best tacky sweaters have received a wide array of gifts, from new bikes to $50 gift cards. The Reserve is now leasing for spring 2016 and preleasing for fall 2016. For more information contact Mario Brown at 405-310-6000.
