As we move further out of lockdown, so much is changing and exciting things are starting to happen in store and in the community. We kicked off in April with our 'Seeds of Hope' campaign, giving out Sunflower seeds to local schools and in the community with the aim of spreading a message of cheer and hope. I look forward to seeing lots of bright Sunflowers popping up around town in the coming months! In May we were able to re-start fundraising events for our partner charity, Clic Sargent. Sadly this is our final year working with this amazing charity but we are still aiming to raise lots of money to fund a new place of respite that offers help and support to children who are undergoing treatment and their families. ‘Jacks House’ will be named after one such little boy, Jack, who has been amazing helping us fundraise since the beginning of our partnership. There was a flurry of excitement in store on 17th May as our customer cafe reopened for business. It was so nice to see people out socialising again, having a coffee and a chat with friends and family, a simple pleasure that has obviously been sorely missed this past year. From 17th to 30th May we held our Wizard Of Oz event, the first big event of the year. I visited local schools and asked if they could help build a Yellow Brick Road Of Hope Messages. I also got some help finding a missing dog named Toto and held a raffle. It was great fun and I hope to give you the amount we raised in the next issue. All events are covid risk assessed before taking place. Last but by no means least, Morrisons Houghton Regis was pleased to be able to donate pet food to the Cats Protection League. Helping animal charities is new for us and it’s great to be able to help animals in need. We are still taking Foodbank / food donations in store. Simply place your items in a grab bag, take to a checkout where the cashier will process it for you. Your donations are then distributed to various local organisations who make up food parcels for those in need. Morrisons will also send donations along with those from our customers. Looking forward, local group Houghton Together will be meeting in June to discuss and plan future events for the community to enjoy so watch this space next issue for further updates. Until next time, keep smiling!
