Preliminary Checklist
Vision to Reality
2
We are proud of every single product that we build, but we know that we cannot take all of the credit. Because each of our units is custom built, the designs are always developed to fit your vision. From location and mobility to lights and colors, the final product that we build is made for you. The start of every single project is a conversation between you and our team members to discuss where the product will be used, what equipment it will need, and how it should look. Once those details are in place, our design team begins work on a packet that will ultimately include a layout of all of your equipment, details on electrical and plumbing requirements, and 3D renderings of the final product, including the finish materials and branding that will make your business shine. It’s your vision, we’re just here to help make it a reality. 3
Indoor or Outdoor The location for each project is one of the first questions that we ask in our planning process. While plenty of projects have been built that can be utilized in multiple environments, knowing whether a project will be used inside, outside, or both helps our team to plan the structure and materials of your product to be durable and cost effective. As an example, vinyl laminate is an excellent siding option for indoor carts, while reclaimed wood provides more protection against sun exposure outdoors. The good news is that any cart built to be used outdoors can be brought indoors as well, so if flexibility is important, we can build with that in mind!
4
Mobile or Fixed Mobility is definitely a premium for projects that will be used both inside and out, but even projects built for a single environment might move around. Most of our products are built on casters to make it easy to get them in to your facility, but there are a few options on how they can be placed. Locking casters allow your unit to be securely placed for use, but make it easy to get it moving again. Leveling legs can be attached along with casters, to ensure that your unit will sit level in any location. If a project will never move, it can be physically installed, with no casters at all. Finally, if your product will always be on the move, bigger wheels look great and roll like a dream! As an extra option, we are always ready to send along a member of our team to help your on-site staff set up the unit.
5
Finishes and Branding While our carts are all built with a focus on functionality, we know that being seen by the customer is one of the most important ways for you to drive business, so we put just as much consideration into the finished look of the product as we do into the construction. Customer-facing counters are often finished with either Corian or Starboard, while stainless steel works well for back counters. Siding can range from vinyl laminate for small carts to Recycled Reclaimed wood siding on large kiosks. Trimming is often done using powder coated stainless steel, but wood edges can make a nice finish when paired with wood siding. We offer a variety of roof styles for your unit, and awnings can provide shade and style. On our carts we always recommend a rubber bumper and caster skirting for protection and a finished look without sacrificing mobility. Of course, making sure that all those wonderful finishes are properly lit is essential, but we’ll look at that more on the next page!

Lighting Options Nearly every product we create has some sort of lighting installed, to make sure that the unit and your products really shine. On retail merchandisers, we use either track lighting or strip lighting depending on the type of unit. The strip lighting works wonderfully around shelving, as it provides even lighting across all of your products. Track lighting installs really well under peaked roofs, and the lights can be adjusted to focus in on particular parts of your display. Larger kiosks can be made to shine with kicklighting, lanterns, spotlights, or even backlit signage. On closed kiosks, we use LED lights with prismatic shielding on the interiors, ensuring that everything is well lit.

Point of Sale It’s not the most exciting part of your product display, but it’d be hard to get much business done without it! Our team will work to make sure that your point-of-sale (POS) has a place on your unit where it naturally fits, and where it functions well for both your customers and your employees. Depending on the type of point-of-sale system you utilize and the needs of your employees, this can mean sitting straight on the countertop, behind a shroud or segmented section of a unit, or even on a freestanding, indepenedent POS cart. Wherever the transactions take place, we offer a locking drawer and cabinets for cash and other supplies, and recommend a folding end-shelf or pull-out breadboard shelf for your customers’ convenience.

Water System Options A big part of creating products to be used in the food and beverage industry is ensuring that they meet the health code requirements, which usually means paying special attention to the water system throughout. Most of our food and beverage units include at least a hand sink, while many also include three-compartment sinks, espresso machines, and other equipment that need fresh-water in and waste-water out. In the most simple setup, we utilize removable fresh- and waste-water tanks with a pump to supply a small hand sink, either set in the deck or recessed beneath the counter. On kiosks without available water hookups, we can install tanks which have a much larger capacity and are not removable. With this system, a Mobile Support Unit is paired with the kiosk, which will allow your operator to pump fresh-water in and waste-water out. Finally, on kiosks where water hookups are available on site, we can design a unit to be hard-plumbed by your plumber after installation, so that it pulls fresh-water in and pumps waste-water out without any tanks involved in the process.

Roaming Beverage Carts Roaming Beverage Carts have become a popular option to get drinks to your customers instead of asking them to come to you. Designed with mobility as the top priority, these units can easily be pushed through a crowded facility by a single operator, and can be heavily modified to suit your drink service needs. Ice pans are a common option, as they allow you to keep bottled beverages cold while you move around. The open space inside the body of the unit can be equipped with a removable waste-water tank, to avoid pooling as ice melts. Alternatively, the inside of the cart can be used for storage, allowing your operator to keep overstock or other products close at hand.

Coffee and Espresso Service Coffee carts have become a staple product for The Carriage Works, and our team spends more time thinking about (and drinking!) coffee and espresso than we’d like to admit. The coffee business has a huge range of applications, from small selfservice carts to larger coffee and espresso kiosks, and The Carriage Works is proud to have helped develop units to fit many different applications. Flexibility is key here. Our smallest coffee and espresso service units come in around 4ft, while kiosks can end up being far larger. We’ve even designed a coffee kiosk to be built on a ramp, with an angled base to match the uneven ground!

Great Start Coffee Carts The Carriage Works is excited to bring a new line of products to the business! GreatStart carts offers an “in-stock” product that maintains the same quality and craftsmanship you’ve come to expect from The Carriage Works. We hope to give your business the GreatStart it deserves! These carts come in 6’ or 8’ designs, and feature a 34” ADA height drop shelf for customer service. For the operator, there is a built in 27” refrigerator, a recessed hand sink, and an electrical panel that allows you to hook up the brewer or espresso machine of your choice. Each cart is finished out with your choice of standard laminate colors, which gives a clean finish and even edges to the body and the countertop, plus it’s easy to clean!

Self-Serve Coffee Carts In today’s fast paced world, self-service options are becoming more and more popular. Our customers have seen a lot of success with products that allow customers to serve themselves, especially in airports. Refillable coffee pots, stacked cup dispensers, or even self-serve POS stations make for an attractive place for busy travelers to grab a cup of coffee on the go. Depending on your location, these can be configured to have a single operator acting as a cashier, or to function without an operator always on site for simple coffee service. We pride ourselves on establishing early on what you’ll be serving to your customers, to ensure that we have all the cups, sleeves, and condiment dispensers you need built-in to the unit for a finished look.

Full Beverage Service When the space is available, there’s nothing like a full-service kiosk to provide your customers with the best beverage options available. Whether it’s in a mall, a library, a gym, or a corporate office, a full beverage service establishment ensures a relaxed place to pick up your drink of choice, and maybe even a pre-packaged snack to munch on. We know that being able to serve a variety of options is essential in these establishments. We work with our customers to make creative use of the space available to fit in all of the equipment they need for any drink order. Bigger units also mean more opportunities for design elements that catch the customer’s eye and establish your brand. This can include canopies, overhead signage, distinct lighting, and finishes.

Full Food Service Our full food service kiosks are a great way for you to serve a restaurantstyle menu at indoor or outdoor locations, including malls, airports, colleges, convention centers - the list goes on and on! House style designs are built to be split right down the middle, to make them easy and economic to ship and install on site. Inside, the space is optimized by our design team to ensure that you’ve got all necessary equipment - including sinks, refrigerators, cooking surfaces, prep areas, a point of sale station, and all the necessary electrical hookups - and we pack in as much storage space as possible! For indoor installation, we make sure that your finished product has an eye catching design that stands out in a crowd, and create a partitioned back area to keep dishwashing on-site and out of sight.

Specialized Menu Service For brands focused on one particular menu item, we can create kiosks designed specifically with that food in mind. When building a kiosk to serve ice-cream, we focus on where the display freezers will sit before anything else. For pretzels, making sure that there is a place to prep with easy access to an oven is essential. As always, an eye-catching and on-brand finish is essential. We have experience designing finished looks for both local and nation-wide brands. We work with you to make sure that your unit looks just right for your brand, and also fits in well with the environment it will be placed in.

Food Service Trailers Mobile units are a long-standing part of The Carriage Works’ heritage, as you could probably guess by our name! While we don’t make too many horse-drawn carriages these days, we still love putting together products that can roll to where they are going to be deployed. Whether you are looking to serve just beverages or to bring menu items on the go, we can develop a towable solution. Some trailers are pulled around by small vehicles within an establishment, to make a show of getting set up for the day’s work, while others are actually built to be towed behind a truck, so that they could roam around a city, or hit the road on a cross country trek!

Security Options Having a great place to display your products is absolutely critical, but it’s also important to ensure that your merchandise stays secure when you close up shop. The Carriage Works utilizes a wide variety of security methods, to make sure that your products stay safe, even while your retail merchandiser keeps looking cool. Roll-down canvas security curtains work best inside amusement parks or other already secured environments, and come in a huge variety of colors and patterns. Metal security shutters provide another level of security, and can come in a variety of colors to pair well with your units finishes. For many of our units, a bag cover is used to keep the unit protected from weather and while in storage.

Wall Hugger Merchandisers Wall Hugger Merchandisers are a great way to get a built-in look to display your merchandise without taking up a lot of space. The combination of slatwall on the back and drawers or doors at the base give you a lot of ways to display and store merchandise, while LED strip lighting ensures that everything shines.

Free-Standing Merchandisers Shopping centers and schools are great places to set up a store with one of our free-standing merchandisers. Developed to optimize display space with shelving and slat-walls while maintaining a compact footprint, we also make sure that each unit is finished off to be attractive all on their own. If you’re looking to open up shop in a mall or other facility with design requirements, our team will design your unit to follow those guidelines while still being unique to your business. Most of these units are built to feature shopping on three sides with a POS on the fourth, but as with everything we build, we can customize the layout to make it work for your operation.

Folding Merchandisers With security built right into their structure, folding merchandisers are a great option when you want to be able to display a lot of product and make it easy to close up shop at the end of the night. Slat-wall interiors let you use shelving or peg hooks to show off your merchandise and optional drawers or cabinets in the base provide some storage for overstock. Some of these units utilize the bottom shelf as a POS station, while other customers prefer to order a free-standing, dedicated POS cart in matching colors. Painted finishes, often with vinyl graphics, help these look great even when they are closed, and it’s a breeze to roll them in to storage if they are going to be out of use for an extended period.

Retail and Information Carts When you need a small and compact option, nothing beats a cart. Designed to be easy to move to where you need them most, these carts are built with the same focus on quality as all of our products and pack a lot of punch in a small package! For information booths, we make sure that visibility is prioritized, with distinct signs or canopies, and provide as much storage for pamphlets, maps, or anything else the operator might need close at hand. For merchandise, wire display racks make a nice way to display your products without making the cart too heavy to move, or we can build carts with specifically designed bins to maximize your display. On small carts like these, applied vinyl graphics are the best way to draw attention.

Retail Kiosks With a set floor plan, these kiosks are designed for more permanent installation. Usually the inside is for operators to work, servicing customers on the outside. Some kiosks invite customers to step inside of the unit to shop or even get their eyebrows threaded! These units can offer everything necessary to run a full store, with space for employees to work, storage space, security cameras, installed safes, and room for branding, all in a more compact and affordable design. Working with a kiosk design allows us to use lighting that highlights your unique design features, including backlight signs, hidden LED strip lighting, LCD monitors for advertising or pricing, and multiple spaces for brand callouts. We have built kiosks ranging in size from 30 to 450 square feet!
