Lady Orioles return five starters by Hobby King S PORTS W RITER Coming off a season where the Concordia Lady Orioles were nipping at the heels of Saint Paul and Santa Fe, sixth-year head coach Leslie Basye is hopeful 2014 will be her team's year. The Lady Orioles lost only one senior in outside hitter Cassidy Brockman, who had a 28-percent kill rate. Back is a slew of players with varsity experience, including 5 foot-6 inch junior Cailey Cooper, 5 foot-6 inch senior Brittany Reinwald and 5 foot-4 inch junior Mallory Scherer as outside hitters. Cooper had 106 kills a year ago. “(She) has worked extremely hard in the off-season, and it is paying off in her attacks,” Basye said. Scherer had a 43 percent kill percentage and Reinwald 33 percent on the right side. Showing potential to play in the front row are 5 foot -6 inch freshmen Madyson Langkrahr and Sami Brackman. “Mariah Rudy (6-0 sophomore) is moving to the right side this year to capitalize on her blocking ability,” Basye said.
