Woolsey returns to Majority of starters back for lead Lady Cougars Lady Greyhounds by Hobby King SPORTS WRITER
by Hobby King SPORTS WRITER Katie Woolsey will return to lead the Crest Ridge Lady Cougars on the volleyball court. Woolsey, who will be entering her sixth year as head coach, has a roster that numbers 20, including five seniors, seven juniors and four sophomores. The Lady Cougars lost three seniors, including Kennedy Dick, who saw significant varsity playing time, according to Woolsey. The Lady Cougars return seven players with varsity experience. Returning outside hitters are senior Whitney Hutcherson and junior Kyla Nimsgern. Junior Megan VanHarn is new to the program and provide the team height at 5-10, according to Woolsey. There are two returning varsity players as middle hitters in juniors Lily Hunter and Kaylee Schmidli. Junior Heather Delana is a returning varsity player at setter. Sophomore Timber Erisman also is a setter. “Both are quick and have good hands,” Woolsey said. They are competing for playing time.” Senior Kelsie Seaman returns and does senior Leah Kemple, battling for the libero spot. “Both are quick and are good passers,” Woolsey said. Woolsey said several players can hit. “Lily and Kaylee are our strongest hitters,” she said. “The outsides are developing more consistency.” Woolsey said the team's defense needs improvement. “This group works hard and is very coachable,” Woolsey said. “So our defense will improve quickly.” Woolsey said she is happy with the work ethic. “(It's an athletic group with an eagerness to improve,” she said. But not being consistent is a problem. Woolsey said the Lady Cougars need to improve daily and focus on taking care of their side of the net.
