BISHOP ALLEN ACADEMY’S VOCAL SHOWCASE
For many students, a practical, hands-on learning experience allows them to utilize the skills and knowledge they have gained and put them to good use. In the case of Bishop Allen Academy’s senior vocal students, this involved performing live on stage, backed by a professional band. We gathered at The Stop, a rehearsal and performance venue at Kipling & The Queensway, to showcase our talents. Led by teacher, Laura Pilarski, who stated that the goal of the project was to “allow students to experience the inner workings of the world of music.” In partnership with The Stop’s owner, music industry guru Jasmine Denham, we performed with some of Canada’s top professional musicians, some of whom have toured with artists such as Drake and Serena Ryder.

A variety of themes were explored, from celebrating diversity to tracing historical events of Canada’s past, all seen through the eyes of Canadian teenagers. In addition to writing, recording and performing our songs, we were responsible for all other aspects of putting on a live production, including social media engagement and ticket sales.
Each of us performed a solo of our choosing and collaborated with our classmates to present an

As fellow student, Diego Quintero explains, the biggest takeaway from the entire experience was that it “made you realize that with faith in yourself, you can do anything worthwhile.” Education aside, the novelty of this experience is surely something that we will never forget. ---

NEW MENU. SAME GREAT VIBE.
We’ve got to give credit where credit is due. Kudos to the staff at Refinery Public House for maintaining a consistent dining experience that caters to the whole neighbourhood.
Some new menu items to savour: Firecracker Calamari: Sriracha marinated calamari breaded and cooked with sweet chili sauce
Having celebrated their one year anniversary this summer, the good folks at The Refinery have launched a new menu for the fall that will certainly please local foodies. Their prices have even stayed the same, adding to the appeal. With all menu items priced at $6.95, The Refinery does a fantastic job of catering to local families and college students alike. Their menu is diverse and offers something for everyone, including the kids. Fan faves like the beef brisket sandwich, chicken fingers, jalapeno grilled cheese and the skillet nachos are still on the menu.
Refined Spinach Dip: Three Cheeses with spinach, red peppers, spices. Served in a bread bowl with red nacho chips Grilled Veggie Wrap: Roasted carrots, roasted zucchini, peppers, green onions mixed greens, on a grilled flour tortilla Roasted Salmon: Sear roasted salmon with seasonal vegetables Key Lime Pie: Homemade key lime pie on a graham cracker crust with whipped cream...cont’d on p14 --3039 Lake Shore Blvd. W. 647.342.3093 refinerypublichouse.com

ONE HEALTH SERVICES
ONE Health services is an integrative healthcare clinic new to the Long Branch neighbourhood. Our team of healthcare professionals is dedicated to providing the most comprehensive, compassionate, and individualized patient care available. Our clinic differentiates itself from other multidisciplinary clinics that have a team of professionals each treating a patient from their own perspective. Rather, we blend this approach with the interdisciplinary model in which the practitioners work together to determine a joint treatment plan for each patient. This patient-centred approach empowers the patient and allows them to take an active role in their course of treatment.
By: Dr. Melanie DeCunha, ND
Our current team consists of a Naturopath, Dietitian, Chiropractor, and Massage Therapist, with a Physiotherapist joining soon. Our services are covered by most private health care plans, and we offer direct billing. We are open Monday-Friday, with evening and some weekend appointments available. More information about our practitioners, services, fees and hours can be found on our website. We are so excited to be a part of the Long Branch community and look forward to providing you with the highest quality of care! Call today to book your complimentary 15-minute consultation! ---
