THE INTEGRATIVE DEFENSIVE STRIP

PERFORMATIVE PROTOTYPE Japan coastal cities were massively damaged by Tsunami and Earthquakes during the disaster in 2011.

Our project starts off by aiming to brainstorm and develop adaptive design of a deployable Landscape. From the aid of previous research topics, the developable device relating Tsunami prevention and structural advantages which may help perform in scenerios with or without disaster associated to multiple parameters.

THE INTEGRATIVE DEFENSIVE STRIP

COASTAL URBAN INTERVENTION Learning yet challenging the existing conventional prevention system in japan such as the seawall and discharge channels, our project set the basis to innovate Sendai’s coastal area in deploying the infrastructural strips on ground as landscape. Through incorporating the barrier and the discharge channel system, we propose the series of integrative defensive lines along the coastal area in order to reduce Tsunami power and damages. The strips carry their unique role in different location with specificity with or without the disaster and integrate with various systems to help create a new landscape topology.

ation of a higher and stronger yet stand-alone, massive concrete barrier should not be the only way out. However, AND CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT ue of theirSTUDY practicability and efficiency in minimizing wave power. Through incorporating of the barrier and disem innovatively, our project is to propose the series of integrative defensive lines along Sendai Airport coastal area reduce the damage done by flooding and tsunami invasion. Distinct strips carry a unique role with specificity with tsunami and their integration with different systems help create a new landscape topology and hence innovate arspace and form of the airport city.

THE AIRPORT From the development of urban infrastructural strips, the project heads towards the inland to the Sendai airport. In the disaster happened earlier, Sendai airport was also a victim of the Tsunami yet it provides higher land spaces for evacuation. In our project, we aim to take the concept of the vertical channel from our strips and proceed into a more indepth architectural and structural design. With the aid of our urban strategy of landscape strips, we incorporate our design with the airport terminal, carpark and also the train system also in respond to the Tsunami invasion situation.

DIFFERENT FLOW OF THE AIRPORT

The airport, carpark and the train system take the concept of “strip from the urban strips. Not only they formally share similarities, our design strategy is to use the airport infrastructures to set up defensive lines. The carpark, and train route formally become the last barrier for the airport and more inland area. In the urban scale design, we investigated the flow of human and machines and therefore we try to apply coherent logic towards the airport. Structurally, the framework system helps crafting the curvy form of the airport terminal while giving stability and variety for our structural to incorporate with programs.
