ST. BLAISE

Friday 3 February was the Feast of St. Blaise and Fr Hussey blessed the throats at Mass in St Mary’s Church on Friday last. Who was St Blaise?, Blaise was the Bishop of Sabaste in what is now Turkey. He had a great love of animals. While he was in prison awaiting execution, during a period of anti- Christian persecution, a Christian woman brought him two tall candles to light up his cell. The next day another woman visited him carrying her little boy who was choking on a piece of fish bone that was stuck in his throat. Blaise made a cross from the two candles, laid it against the child’s throat and blessed him. Immediately the bone was dislodged and the child was saved. St. Blaise died c. 316 and on his Feast Day or the Sunday closest to it, Catholics have their throats blessed in Church.

Beale Gaa

Beale seniors secured our opening points in the North Kerry League, Division 1A, with victory over near neighbours, Ballybonohue, on Bank Holiday Monday in Páirc de Staic. It was tit for tat at this local derby on the scoreboard and the field of play The teams were level at the short whistle and exchanged points early in the second half.

Little separated the teams right through and we were on equal par going into the final quarter. A goal from the penalty spot followed by a quick point gave us a 4-point advantage but sharp shooting Ballybonohue punished us with frees and reduced our lead to just two points as the clock ticked. We held on and ran out victorious by 1-9 to 1-7.

We now look forward to meeting Duagh this weekend in round 3.

The Beale Social is on Saturday in the Golf Club. Dinner 7.00pm sharp, followed by music and dance. A few tickets still available. Contact John Hannan, Colm Kissane or The Railway. North Kerry league Division 2. Round 2, Moyvane 6-15 Asdee 0-2 a seriously under strength Asdee team came up against Moyvane in Round 2 of the North Kerry League Division 2 at Jack Walsh Park on Sunday morning last. Moyvane had a 30-man squad to pick from, while Asdee were down 10 of their squad which proved a near impossibility against a near full strength and experienced visiting side. Moyvane were on the scoresheet as early as the first minute followed by goals from Donie Stack, Michael Fogarty and Rian Quinn and at half time led 3-7 to no reply. In fairness the game was long over as Moyvane continued to impress and a further 3 goals Donie Stacks second P J Mulvihill, (2). Asdee did get on the scoreboard with Patrick Mulvihill and Mike Brosnan points. Asdee have a couple weeks to go before they get their squad back close to near full strength but will be happy with their younger players fitting into the setup especially new to senior football, Patrick Mulvihill and John Daly.

Congratulations to Duagh/Lyre u13 girls futsal team on Saturday coming away with bronze medals after a fantastic competition. The girls were unlucky in their first game losing 2-0 to Spa/Fenit/Barrow, in the second game winning 2-0 to Listowel, in the 3rd game a draw 0-0 with the eventual winners Castleisland and Duagh/Lyre unlucky not to score in the dying minute a deflection off the post by the keeper, the final game against Ballyduff 1-1, if Duagh/Lyre had won it would have been silver. A super competition with a fantastic atmosphere and the first indoor competition for Kerry Community Games after covid-19. Team: Sadie Duffy, Kate Sheridan, Caoimhe Fitzgerald, Chloe Danagher, Siún Kirby, Saidhbh Hanley, Olivia O’Brien and Lucy Hallissey. Manager Jason Harte, Assistant Aoibhínn Harte. Thanks to Neilus Collins for a well run competition and to all teams for a very sporting day and making fantastic memories.

U13 Indoor Soccer boys

Sunday was the turn of the Duagh/Lyre Community Games u13 boys indoor soccer team. 19 teams entered in total with two groups running in Duagh sports complex and two groups in Milltown. Our u13 team put up a great battle on the day playing Abbeydorney/Kilflynn in the first game going up 3-0 at half time and unfortunately going down 5-3. In the second game v Ardfert/ Kilmoyley going up 3-1 at half time and missing out 4-3 in the end. In the third game v Spa/Fenit/Barrow ending in a 3-3 draw, the final game winning against Castleisland 2-1. With only one team from the group going through to the semi finals the boys were close on the day. Great experience gained and plenty soccer played. Well done to all the boys. Team: Fionn Doorley, John Ryan, Jack Sheehy, Cian O’Connor, Adam Shanahan, Liam Dennehy, Liam Galvin, Charlie Watson. Managers Declan O’Connor and Jerry Shanahan. Thanks to everyone on the day and the continued support of parents. Thanks to Neilus Collins and Duagh Sports Complex.

Castleisland Desmonds 2.05 v Brosna 2.05

Match Report: by Castleisland Desmonds GAA

Desmonds and Brosna share the spoils in North Kerry. Castleisland Desmonds shared the spoils with neighbours Brosna, in Round 2 of the North Kerry Senior Football league on Thursday night.

The Division 1A match was played under lights in Mountcollins, in front of a large attendance, in drizzley and blustery conditions.

The game got off to a lightning start with Brosna taking an early lead through midfielder Timmy Finnegan, Graham O’Connor quickly responded for Desmonds, before Tom Fitzgearld put Brosna ahead on 5 minutes. Brosna had a goal chance on 6 minutes, but Desmonds goalie Steven Bartlett closed down the angle and the Brosna forward found the side netting. The game continued from end to end, with the Brosna keeper making a point blank save from a Ruairí Burke effort. Kieran O’Donnell and Maurice Hickey traded points, before Adam O’Donoghue levelled proceedings from a 40 yard free on the quarter mark. A long range Luka Brosnan effort raised a white flag on 16 minutes, but referee Ger O’Carroll overruled the call, judging it to have sailed to the left of the post. The game ebbed and flowed, before Steven Bartlett made a stunning save on the 20 minute mark. Both sides traded wides before we had the games first goal, an unstoppable effort from Jack O’Sullivan; this was followed up four minutes later with Jamie O’Sullivan netting, leaving Brosna 2.3 to 3 points to the good on 28 minutes. Adam O’Donoghue pointed from a free in injury time to leave Brosna five ahead at the interval. Half time score: Brosna 2.03 – Desmonds 0.04.

The second half started with a Maurice Hickey run through the heart of the Brosna defence, leading to an Adam O’Donoghue point. The game ran from end with both sides missing opportunities over the minutes that followed. Desmonds introduced Pat Fitzgerald and Dominic Finnegan for Seán Prendeville and Ryan Maguire respectively. Both teams created chances before the game was delayed due to an injury to Dominic Finnegan. Tadgh O’Shea replaced Dominic on the resumption of play.

On 45 minutes Thomas Conway and Adam Donoghue combined for Desmonds to work through the Brosna lines, before Denis O’Connor finished off the move, with a fisted effort to the net, for Desmonds first goal; leaving the minimum between the sides – Brosna 2.3 – Desmonds 1.5. Two long range Tom McGoldrick frees put a goal between the sides again. Before a well worked Desmonds attack ended up with Denis O’Connor finding the bottom left corner of the net, for his second goal of the game. Colm Roche replaced Thomas Conway on the Desmonds side for a cagey final 8 minutes. Both sides had chances to clinch the victory in the closing minutes of the game, but ultimately couldn’t find the winner. Leaving the scores deadlocked and the points shared at referee Ger O’Carroll’s final whistle.

Full time score: Desmonds 2.05 (11) – Brosna 2.05 (11)

Our Lady Of Mount Carmel

Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven.

Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity

(Mention your request here)

There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Amen

This prayer is never known to fail. It is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. T.C.

Meaning Of Life

“Oh l just don’t know where to start, we’ve so much stuff to pack!!”

I don’t envy my friend moving house. It’s a daunting task.

Her words got me thinking. I often say that l am so glad we don’t have to pack for our final journey to eternity. I mean, wouldn’t it just be your worst nightmare? You’d be packing, changing your mind, unpacking, changing your mind again and you’d have years, decades to do it!!!

I read about China’s first Emperor who spent 38 years building his 76 meter high tomb, because he wanted to spend his afterlife in a palatial tomb surrounded by all his worldly treasures. And he had over 8000 terracotta life sized soldiers to guard his tomb!

So, how do we pack for eternity?

I read in 1John 5:11 “And this is the testimony that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son does not have life.”

And John 14:6 is crystal clear. Jesus says, “l am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Roman’s 10:9 is also clear. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in

THE MIRACLE PRAYER

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours.

This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.

Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. M.K.

Precious Mother Of Jesus

M.K.

Say 6 times a day for 3 days.

your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved. “

So scripture tells us that believing what God says is the key. That’s Faith.

Don’t we just lug around so much useless junk like fear, worry, anger, self-righteousness and negativity? It drags us down and makes life so burdensome. But God tells us in His Word to travel light. How? By believing what He tells us in His Word. He wants us to know His incredible love, His light, His truth, His grace, mercy, healing, His freedom, His peace, joy and hope.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden and l will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for l am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

I’m learning to travel light, with luggage that lasts into eternity.
