KITTY’S SALON:
By Nigel Jones, Urs Brunner and Dr Julia Schrammel
Sex, Spying and Surveillance in the Third Reich
There is no book in English about the wartime Berlin ‘salon’ run by Kitty Schmidt under the secret control of Reinhard Heydrich, one of the architects of the Final Solution
Salon Kitty was the most notorious brothel in the decadent Berlin of the Weimar Republic - the city of Cabaret. But after the Nazis took power, it became something more dangerous: a spying centre with every room wired for sound, staffed by women agents specially selected by the SS to coax secrets from their VIP clients. Masterminded by Reinhard Heydrich, the spymaster whom Hitler himself called ‘the man with the iron heart’, the exclusive establishment turned listening post was patronised by the Nazi leaders themselves, not knowing that hidden ears were listening.
One of the last untold stories of the Second World War, Salon Kitty’s sensational true history is now revealed by historians Nigel Jones, Urs Brunner and Dr Julia Schrammel. After years of painstaking research and investigation, the story they tell sheds new light on Nazi methods of control and coercion, and the way that they used and abused sex for their own perverse purposes.

Kilflynn
KILFLYNN N.S ARE MINI 7S CHAMPIONS
On Monday 24th April, The County INTO GAA Mini 7s Hurling competition was played in beatiful sunshine at the Tom Healy Memorial Park, Abbeydorney. The largest number of teams in the history of the competition participated this year and St. Teresa’s National School, Kilflynn rose to the top!! This group of players produced some fantastic hurling on Monday against three tough challenges. First up we met Buff’s homeland Kilgarvan, a spirited bunch but we proved that goals win matches.
Next, we were met with the physicality of a strong Sliabh a mhadra side from Ballyduff but again the boys dug deep and powered through to the final.
In the final we met a skillful Glenderry, Ballyheigue side. We were down by two points at half time and with seven minutes left the boys put everything on the line. We had shots on goals that would rattle any net and points sailing over the bar with precision. We clawed our way back to win by five points. Congratulations and well done to the Kilflynn players Paddy Cronin, Matt Cronin, Daniel Diggins, Daithi Nolan, Jack Kelliher, Bobby Ryan, Eoin Beirne, Tiernan Mullins, Dean McElligott and Simon Russell and to their mentors Jerome O’Sullivan (Trainer) and Sinead Hogan (Manager). Monday would not have been possible without the help of Jerome O’Sullivan. Jerome lives and breathes hurling and his positive attitude keeps the boys going at moments when heads might drop

Change In Mass Schedule
At a recent meeting of the Area Pastoral Council (with representatives from Listowel, Moyvane, Knockanure, Lixnaw, Iremore, Rathea, Duagh, Lyrecrompane) the provision of Mass for the 8 communities of the region was reviewed.
After exploration of possibilities, given the decline in the number of priests (4 at the moment), it was proposed that, among other adjustments, Moyvane-Knockanure would continue to have its vigil Mass on Saturday evenings at 7.30 and morning Mass at 9.30 in Knockanure. Moyvane Sunday 11.00am Mass may be dropped so that the resident priest (for now) in Moyvane could provide Mass elsewhere in the area at that time.
Before this arrangement is confirmed, your comments are welcome, preferably in writing, to Fr. Brendan before May 1st. They will be respected and included in any ultimate outcome.

GAA NEWS
Kerry Hurling:
Ballyduff was represented on the County hurling teams at the weekend with the Boyle brothers Mikey and Podge, Eoin Ross and Kyle O’Connor on the Senior team that defeated Kildare on Saturday in the Joe McDonagh Cup. Next up for this team is an away trip to Offaly on May 7th. Shay Murphy, Jake Segal and Michael Houlihan were on Celtic Challenge team that lost to Cork on Saturday in Austin Stack Park.
Senior Hurling:
Our Senior hurlers travelled to Ardfert on Friday evening last to take on the locals in Round 5 of the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Hurling League and managed to preserve their unbeaten run in the competition. St Brendans started brightly and were ahead 0 – 6 to 0 – 2 after 20 minutes. Both sides added two points each before the break leaving the hosts ahead by 4 four points 8 – 4. Ballyduff were faster off the mark after the break and a point from Kevin Goulding was followed a goal, from a penalty expertly converted by Killian Boyle, after Paul O’Carroll was pulled down in the square. The visitors took the lead but St Brendans were awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Darragh Quinlan. Ballyduff were leading by two with time almost up but the concession of two late frees allowed St Brendans to tie the score at 0 – 17 to 1 – 14. Next up is a home game against Causeway on this Friday evening at 7.00pm.
Senior Football:
Our Senior football team travelled to Castlegregory on Sunday last to take on the locals in Round 4 of the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Football League. We conceded a goal after 20 seconds but settled down quickly, although playing against the wind, two goals from Michael Slattery and points from Tommy O’Connor and Kevin Goulding left us trailing by one point at halftime. We managed to lead by three points after 55 minutes but three points for the hosts left the final score at full time Ballyduff 2 - 11 Castlegregory 1–14. On this Sunday we are at home to Cromane with throw-in at 2.00pm.
Féile na nGael:
Pride of the place this week must go to our Féile team who pulled of the mother of all comebacks at Abbeydorney on Saturday evening last. Trailing by nine points with eight minutes left, two goals and four points to Crotta’s single point tied the scores and in the final minute captain John Curtin shot was barely wide to win the game. The game went to extra time with two five minutes halves. Our young men really upped their game with Dylan Costello unerring from frees. We outscored our opponents four points to two to spark off one of the greatest celebrations ever seen in Tom Healy Park. This game was a Classic example of how the great game of hurling should be played with both teams giving it everything for the pride of the parish. Crotta will be disappointed having surrendered a nine point lead but this was really about playing to the final whistle. While there was some brilliant individual performances this by and large was a team performance with everyone putting their shoulder to wheel when the need was greatest. After the game Martin Sheehy, Chairman Coiste na nÓg Chiarraí presented the Shield to Captain John Curtin amid scenes of great joy.
The victorious Féile panel is Jack Enright, Adam Kennelly. Evan O’Connor, Aodhan Slattery, JJ O’Rourke, Jake Rochford, Seán Ross O’Gorman, Scott Sheehan, Oran Curley, Jack Purcell, Dylan Costello, Fionn Byrne, Ben Lynch, John Curtin (captain), Cathal Byrne, Jack Houlihan, Cillian Mulcahy, Darragh James, Ruan Houlihan, Jacob Dunworth, Thomas Scanlon, Aaron Ross O’Gorman.
Ballyduff now go on to represent Kerry at the National Féile na nGael Finals to be held in Connacht Centre of Excellence Mayo on June 24th. Well done to everyone concerned and in particular players and Joint Management Noel and Sean Browne .
