Ever since Anna and I joined AIM in the late nineties, I was intrigued by the common sense of AIM’s Healthy Cell Concept (HCC). Aided by my scientific training as a consulting engineer, I engrossed myself in establishing the relevance of this concept to the maintenance of good health. What have cells got to do with the good health of my body?

The answer was much simpler than I had thought it would be. The good health of my body has everything to do with cells because that is what my body consists of! 30 trillion of them! That is three, followed by 12 noughts, an awful lot. Research has shown that these cells are replaced regularly. Each day about 330 billion cells, that’s close to 1 %, are replaced every day, by new cells! At the individual level, cell renewal happens at different rates in the body.

Cells in our colon, for instance, are replaced every three to five days, whilst our muscle and fat cells can take up to 70 years to renew. Skin cells replicate in two to four weeks, those of the hair in about six years for women and three years for men, liver cells are renewed from 150 to 500 days, stomach and intestine cells only 5 days whilst bone cells could take 10 years for full replication.

Why we age despite all the cell renewal taking place all the time has all to do with mutations that take place in our DNA as our cells replicate over time. DNA is packaged into chromosomes which reside in the nucleus of every cell.

Fortunately, it is not necessary to delve into all the intricacies of cellular research to realise that for a healthy body, it follows if I wish to have a healthy body I should keep my cells healthy, as best as I can. That, in a nutshell, is what AIM’s unique Healthy Cell Concept is all about, namely applying its five components, cell food, cell exercise, cell environment, cell protection and a positive attitude.

In all the years of our membership, we were impressed by the integrity of AIM’s products and its compliance with the HCC. Outside your faith, life does not have guarantees and remains fragile. However, surveying the scenery around us, our friends are all progressively of a younger age, we are grateful that at respectively 86 and 94, we are doing well, experiencing the loving attentiveness and care of our children and appreciating the role which AIM’s products play in our wellness. With the support of AIM’s products, Anna remains active with daily house chores, crossword puzzles and reading, whilst I go on short walks, reading, potter in the garden, check on the politicians in the newspaper and do my sudoku - and thanks to power sharing, we watch less tv!

The value of the HCC came true to me when some 30 months ago, due to a freak accident, I experienced a multiple femur fracture requiring an operating procedure with a pin inserted and everything held together with screws. Following the physiotherapist’s instructions and with the
