TEATRO VIVO AND ICE&FIRE PRESENT
#ARMING THEWORLD
STORY JAM:
REEL AND UNRAVEL
Come and meet some of Britain’s greatest exports as ice&fire and Teatro Vivo present a fun, free and interactive exploration of the secrets lurking at the UK’s largest Arms Fair.
Hosted by Lucy Lill and Alys Torrance, south London’s popular longstanding storytelling night takes up residence with the Albany across two venues.
Take a selfie with a fighter jet, get up close to some tear gas, and learn a bit more about how we trade weapons with the rest of the world.
Top tellers and songsters get together to sing stories and tell songs in an autumn season of shanties and sagas, tall tales and tunes. We’ve got a cello, a choir, one man and his uke and lots more. With a different line-up of tellers each month, we bring tales from every corner of the world to right here on our doorstep
Two ground-breaking contemporary companies - Teatro Vivo and ice&fire - have come together to create this provocative and timely piece. Teatro Vivo is an Albany Associate company. This is an outdoor event. Check the website for details.

Heroes are usually pretty handy in a scrap. And when heroes fight, they win. Adam has to look out for his brothers. He’s the eldest. He’s a good guy so he’ll be fine. Good guys win. That’s how it works. But once you’ve learned the language of violence, how do you stop speaking it? Shall We Take This Outside is a unique and visceral fusion of spoken word and dance. National slam champion, Adam Kammerling, teams up with real life super humans, Eric Mitchell and Jacob Smart, to explore the effect of hero behaviour on realworld attitudes to violence. Co-commissioned by the Albany and Apples and Snakes.

CHORUS By Ray Lee
SILENCER
Photo: Nathan Cox
By Mem Morrison Company
Chorus is a monumental installation of giant kinetic sculptures, a celestial choir of spinning sound machines, created by award-winning artist and British Composer of the Year, Ray Lee. Towering above the audience, a series of giant metal tripods support rotating arms. At the end of each arm, loudspeakers emit precisely tuned musical pitches, singing out a siren call to all those present. Chorus is produced by Simon Chatterton and commissioned by Newbury Corn Exchange, Brookes University and Oxford Contemporary Music.
This event will take place at Giffin Square, Deptford.
Silencer is a silent march ending with an installation in a public space. Part performance, part exhibition, and created for and by local participants, witness your local shopping street transformed into a sea of placards as individuals march anonymously in support of their own causes and personal crusades. *The march will leave at 2.30pm from outside the Moonshot Centre in Fordham Park and make its way to the installation in Deptford Market Yard, Deptford. Calling All Crusaders! Take part in a Silencer workshop to discover your personal crusade and join us on the march. Visit the Albany website or email summerarts@thealbany.org.uk for details. Commissioned by Millfield Arts Centre and Circulate.

Imagine a world without nationality, where you’re free of labels, utterly transient, without ID documents and don’t belong to the ruling order of any country. No recognition that you even exist. Free To Stay is a new play about belonging and an exploration of life without nationality. Inspired by months of research with people who have firsthand experience of statelessness in the UK and overseas. Using impulsive movement theatre, stunning projection, a powerful soundtrack mixed with personal testimonies and two clowns who didn’t go to clown school, Displace Yourself seek to tell some of the stories of those who feel invisible. Free To Stay asks what community means if you live in a world where everything and everyone is foreign.

Meet the most unusual duckling the pond has ever seen! In their nest at the edge of a pond, the baby ducklings wait impatiently for mummy’s enormous egg to hatch. But their new brother doesn’t look like everyone else. He doesn’t even quack like a proper duckling! Teased and called Ugly by his siblings, our hero goes on an adventure in search of a place to fit in. As the woodland trees change from dark weathered branches to silver sticks of frost, the lost and lonely fledgling hides in brushwood and stares skyward at the migrating swans, yearning to belong and marvelling at their beauty. Moving through all four seasons, tutti futti and York Theatre Royal bring to life Hans Christian Andersen’s well known tale. With inventive physicality and live music, this charming production plays with the importance of identity, self-worth and takes us on a journey to discover inner beauty. Ugly Duckling was commissioned by the Albany and ARC Stockton to provide an exciting, original and excellent Christmas show for families.
