The Albany is a performing arts centre with a history stretching back to the nineteenth century. Today we’re driven by the richdiversity and energy of South East London to create a programme which engages and inspires the broadest range of people. We work with artists and communities to spark new ideas and find creative responses to everyday life. Through a unique set of partnerships we present a full programmeof shows and events in Deptford at the Albany and Deptford Lounge and in Southwark at Canada Water Culture Space. We also work throughout South East London, from bringing free outdoor shows to public spaces in summer to weekly events in community spaces across Lewisham. We hope you’ll find something that inspires you in our Spring 2017 season and look forward to seeing you.
The Albany Café Our Café offers delicious lunches, fair-trade teas and coffees, cakes and treats and a selection of wines and beers. You can even enjoy them in our wonderful garden space if the sun is shining. We work closely with local suppliers and work hard to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. Our Café and Bar (set in the balcony of the theatre), open in line with our programme and events, offer a selection of drinks and light bites for you to enjoy before and during shows and events. We’re open: Monday to Friday, 9am – 6pm, Saturday 10am – 3pm. Plus evenings and Sundays in line with our programme of events.

WE RAISE OUR HANDS IN THE SANCTUARY ‘Ridiculously sexy’
Gay Times
We Raise Our Hands in the Sanctuary has been developed as part of the Albany’s Hatched programme.
14 +
Combining dance, drama and the club sounds of the 1980s, We Raise Our Hands in the Sanctuary tells an uplifting story of the power of gay friendship and the enduring importance of queer spaces. Disenchanted by the London gay disco scene of 1981, two best friends build their own underground club where devotees escape the racism, hardship and homophobia that stalk the city’s streets. But just as they make it big, ambition, addiction and the dawning onslaught of AIDS threaten to tear their friendship apart.

A Place Called Happiness is an honest and real, funny and engaging show filled with stories and secrets shared. OUR CARNAL HEARTS
THE INSECT CIRCUS
Easter Treat Welcome! To you and me and our sticky, spikey, shameful bits!
Back by popular demand, The Insect Circus returns to the Albany!
This fairy comes round your house. You, she says, are in luck. Ask for anything you want. Anything in the world and I’ll give it to you. But whatever you ask for, your neighbour gets double.
Amongst astounding arthropod aerialists, balancing beetles and beauteous butterflies, astonishing novelties will be performed by this outstanding troupe of circus stars.
Our Carnal Hearts is a gleeful, thrilling and murky celebration of envy, competitive spirits and all the times we screw each other over. Performed with a live surround-sound choral score, it is born from the suspect parentage of an ideological rally, a drunken sing-song and a seductive dream.

She had hoped she wouldn’t have to be here tonight. The worst thing we could have done was put her in a play. Beatrice is an unlikely heroine in a story of not-so-everyday survival, sitting in isolation, waiting for the outcome of a forced mental health assessment. She loved Bowie, the Buzzcocks and the Bay City Rollers back in the day, and now revisits a personal history she only just remembers. PRISON GAME
SPRING REIGN
When prison is your world, how do you function within society?
A story from the Syrian conflict: based on real-life accounts of refugees, aid workers, activists, and journalists.
A gripping biographical story of how prison can define a man. Developed using real life accounts of extraordinary experiences, Prison Game explores the effects of institutionalisation through imprisonment. Told through a series of characters, brought to life by the physical dynamism of Marcus Hercules, it charts a young boy’s journey from primary school through to adulthood.
In the besieged city of Aleppo, Salah and Aisha have lost control of their lives and are falling headlong into an uncertain future. The Syria they hoped to change is gone. In its place there is only violence and destruction. How will they survive as they fall further away from hope, from what they know and from what they used to be?
