PlayList Issue 8 Autumn/Winter 2010. FREE
The highlight this autumn is undoubtedly the Afrovibes festival from South Africa, exploring the surprising and sometimes disturbing sides of this extraordinary country. Alongside partners in Europe and South Africa, we’ve brought to the UK some of the most inspirational and exciting performances you’re likely to see anywhere, exclusively at the Albany for a week. Festivals are the order of the day, with the London Jazz Festival and the London African Music Festival alongside Afrovibes and Rooted, our own spoken word scratch festival. Co-productions with the Birmingham REP, Contact Manchester and resident company Apples & Snakes have led to a collection of new theatre shows full of music and poetry with a special Albany flavour. We’ve also invited our two new Associate Artists, Inua Ellams and Arun Ghosh, to share their passions with us and produce a series of unique events. Hip hop musician Ty comes to us with a Christmas special and resident company Entelechy return with their inimitable 21st Century Tea Dance. Finally, after a season of Family Sundays, we’re delighted to welcome back a Christmas version of Three Little Pigs with shows throughout December. We look forward to seeing you. Gavin Barlow
