President’s Report
Well, here we are coming in on 2023 and what a year 2022 has been! The rain has finally made it to most of us across the nation just in time to get cold again, but we are thankful.
As I said, 2022 is now behind us and what a great year it has been for us in the ABHA. There are so many things we have accomplished. Our membership is up as well as our registrations, so that means we are growing and growing quickly. As many of you have noticed by now, our EPDs are up and live with IGS. A move that we have been trying to get done for several years now and it has finally come to pass. I have had several members calling that are very happy with the way it has turned out.

As I have said before, IGS runs genetic evaluations every week, so if you see an error in any of your animals you can let us know and we can look into it and have it fixed in the following weeks instead of waiting 3 or 4 months for a new run. This will be very good for those of you that have sales planned or just need your EDPs up to date. Please turn in and continue to turn in your data, so this can be even better.
I want to thank the Board and Ernie for working on this very diligently over the past year. I know it took longer than expected, but it was a much bigger task than most thought it would be and I hope it serves as a tool to help you market your animals.
Speaking of marketing animals, we have had a few successful sales in the pass couple of months. The Missouri sale went very well, and I want to say Jason, Mike, and all the consigners did a great job to make that sale a success. If you have never been to that sale facility, you need to go next year. It is a very nice place. The cattle looked good and across the breed as a whole, I see the quality getting better and better every year. The Holiday Showcase Online sale was very much a success. I want say thank you to Bobby and Brett Singleton and all the consigners to that sale. They did a great job and had some of the best cattle the breed has to offer in the sale and did a very professional job with the pictures and videos. I was impressed - thank you all for setting a standard to follow.
Next, I have put together a task force of 9 members to start researching the idea of whole herd reporting for the ABHA. This is going to be another long and very tough task. Mark Ipsen is going to chair this and help spearhead it for us. I believe Mark has a good understanding of how whole herd works being also involved with the Angus and Hereford Associations and familiar with their programs. This is going to take some time to research and pull together all the information we need as a board to make the decision and understand whether or not this is a good move for our association. More to come on this subject, but just know we will be rolling out more information on this topic in the near future.
Lastly, I hope you all had a great Christmas and have a great 2023. I want to personally say thank you to each member for believing in me as your President. Your support and encouraging words have been much appreciated and I thank you for that.
God Bless you and your families.
