who was once respected and adored could cause the victims to fall into disbelief and question if the events actually happened. Neurobiological research further contends that such events cause a wide variety of reactions and can include strong desires to self-medicate in attempts to suppress post-traumatic stress. This can mean that victims may turn to social media to “measure” their self-esteem and even further engage in high risk sexual behavior. Crimes involved in sexual harassment often leave victims in psychological turmoil which makes experiences from these events fundamentally different from anything in any other classification of crime. The Savior of the Future of Humanity: Renewable Resources By Jason Nguyen, Staff
During the past centuries, humans have been heavily dependent on resources that are polluting the Earth. Oil, natural gases, and petroleum are used to fuel our cars, generate electricity and heating. Although these resources are essential to achieving our everyday tasks, they will run out eventually. These are called non-renewable resources. Once the Earth runs out of these main resources, there will be devastating effects on the economy. The price of gas will inflate and people will lose their jobs if we continue to use them as our main resource to carry out our everyday task. However, there are many solutions to these problems. The use of renewable resources will be the most efficient way in ceasing the use of nonrenewable resources. There are 5 renewable
resources, which are solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, and geothermal. Solar is when we harness the sun's rays and convert it into electricity. Wind is referring to using the gusts of winds to turn the turbines inside windmills to generate electricity. Hydropower is the use of the fluctuations of water to move a propeller to also generate energy. Biomass is burning organic material, releasing energy and creating other forms of usable energy. Although this process produces carbon dioxide in the air, the amount of carbon dioxide is neutral that produces a minute amount compared to burning coal. Geothermal is the process of digging a deep hole into volcanos, converting thermal energy to mechanical energy to generate
A Korean Wave Hits America by Tracy Tran, Assistant Design Manager
Despite North Korea’s constant nuclear threats upon the United States, South Korea has brought over a pop culture craze with their renowned music called KPop. Recently, the Korean trend has crossed the world and has grown exponentially in the United States. A popular band that has catalyzed this trend is BTS (Beyond the Scene) consisting of: Jin, Suga, V, Jungkook, Jimin, RM, and J-Hope. These men have been trending all over Twitter with their new hit “DNA”. This superstar boy band was the first Korean boy
band to perform at the American Music Awards. They have earned praises from other celebrities for their hard work and dedication, such as Steve Aoki, Camilla Cabello, and many more. BTS has made guest appearances on The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, etc. Their appearances bring a sense of ecstatic energy, and a massive crowd that constantly chants their names as support. The band has made a name for themselves as they continue their tour around the U.S.

plague your life. As simple as that sounds, we, unfortunately, all know it is not that easy. Yet, there are little tips and tricks that can allow you to tap into the best you. Self-meditation and reflection are the best and most effective way to improve your life. Take just a few minutes out of your day just for yourself. Today, we all have this perception of meditation to be with us sitting, legs crossed and breathing “om”. Although that is one form of self-meditation, it can be done anywhere you are, for meditation is simply mindfulness to help calm your inner being and gain insight on

Every year, I hear people say “Well, maybe next year.” This phrase is universal and can apply to almost every wistful aspect of life. But, why don’t we eliminate that phrase and all its failures that follow and linger in the words? In this new year, there are endless possibilities that you can choose. You can make the path to your own life. To embrace and explore within yourself is to eliminate the regrets and negative energy that could
electric. Although there are various ways of producing electricity, the most efficient renewable resources are solar, wind, and hydropower. Solar power is being integrated into many houses, reducing electricity bills and for new forms of transportation. Solar power is the key for the replacement of nonrenewable resources. Instead of using oil and natural gases to fuel your car, we can use electricity that is derived from solar panels. I believe that, in the future, humanity will reduce and replace the use of non-renewable energy. We will accomplish this task together creating new and efficient ways to improve today's renewable energy. I have faith that society will set aside their egocentric task and look at the big picture in saving the Earth by ending the use of non-renewable resource
BTS paves a path for many Korean and international artists that want to enter the American musical realm. There are two primary KPop conventions in the United States located in Los Angeles and New York City, where numerous Korean artists perform their albums or singles. Guest performances vary from Super Junior to Got7 and Girl's Day to Red Velvet. After BTS’ debut in the U.S., we should be expecting the attendance rates at these conventions to grow exponentially. This Korean boy band has paved the path for a greater Korean influence upon Americans today and probably for the future
yourself. To do this once daily can help relieve you of stress and recollect yourself. Self-reflecting can help you pinpoint the negative areas in your life and fix or improve them. Yet, none of this can help you if you do not have the mindset to do so. Once again, selfhappiness begins with you. No one can improve or set your life in the right path like you can. Go into 2018 with the mindset that you want and need to accomplish everything you desire. Go into 2018 with no intentions of thinking “Well, maybe next year.”

Our Last Semester by Grace Vierra, Staff ATTENTION ALL SENIORS! We have officially made it through three and a half years of high school, and that is quite the accomplishment! From freshman year, being the new kids on campus and getting to experience our first real high school Homecoming, to being sophomores and getting to take the PSAT, then finally being an upperclassman and attending Junior Prom, and lastly, getting to be a senior! Senior year of high school has definitely been the best year of high school because there is just so much to look forward to. From senior sunrise to senior sunset, senior barbeque to senior picnic, from our last homecoming to our first senior ball, senior year is just the best. It is absolutely crazy that the best year of high school is already halfway over though.
Not only have we gotten to experience the excitement of being a senior, but we’ve also gotten to experience the stress of college applications. College is right around the corner and we must begin preparing for our futures, which can be a really scary thing. A lot of us are still unsure about how our futures are going to play out, but a lot of us are also anxious to get out of high school. As time progresses and the year starts to come to an end, we will continuously be more and more anxious to leave high school and get on with the lives ahead of us. But why the rush? We have wanted to be done with high school since it started, and now that we are almost done, why not enjoy it a little bit and reap its benefits? Enjoy the people that are around us because this last semester might be the last memories we
have with them. Take pictures with them and hang out with them as much as you can. Enjoy school because this is the last semester of free education for some of us. Next year we will have to pay for dorms and even textbooks. Enjoy the events for seniors because this is our last semester to be seniors. We have ball and senior picnic, and many more. Enjoy your families because this might be your last semester living at home. We will not be able to talk to them as easily if we are living in another state. As this year comes to a close and the class of 2018 prepares to graduate, I encourage you all to just enjoy the time we have left in high school, because we will never get this semester back.
Russia 2018: The Fight for the Cup by
Maya Corona, Staff
It has been a long four year wait, and, after months of anticipation and excitement, the FIFA World Cup of 2018 is finally upon us. This year the tournament will be held at 12 different locations in Russia, who will be hosting the cup for the first time. This World Cup has an unusual lineup, that of which is almost unrecognizable to Brazil in 2014. Due to the USA national team’s failure to qualify, there will most likely be a significant decrease in American viewers this tournament. The Netherlands, Italy, and Chile will be watching from home. However, this makes this year’s lineup no less fierce than any other year. The World Cup will kick off Thursday, June 14th with host Russia opening against Saudi Arabia at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. There are some intense matchups this year: Spain and Portugal, Belgium and England, and Colombia and Japan will no doubt be
entertaining to watch. Germany will be playing as defending champions in a relatively easy group, except that of Mexico. Costa Rica, although relatively low ranked, has proven they’re a force to be reckoned with and will face off with Brazil in the group rounds. Serbia, Saudi Arabia and Russia will be up for a challenge, seeing that Saudi Arabia are the team predicted to be kicked out first and Russia is the lowest ranked team in the tournament. We will find out who the next world champion is on July 15th in Moscow, the same place it all started. As for this year’s Golden Ball and the Golden Boot recipients, we will see who steps on to the field and leads their team. It wouldn’t be surprising to see veteran Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar Jr. score a high amount of goals. For nearly a century, the World Cup has been held every four years for enthusiastic fans across the globe. With its secure roots
and surplus of passion, it does not look like it’s going to be stopping anytime soon. The World Cup won’t happen again until 2022 in Qatar, so until then, let the games begin, and may the best team win! https://www.sportstalkflorida.com/soccer/russia-to-losehosting-2018-fifa-world-cup/

Who is That Girl I See by
Hannah Faith Villareal, Editor-in-Chief
Many of us are familiar with Disney’s captivating musical film Mulan. The story takes place in the ancient Han dynasty and centers around a young woman by the name of Fa Mulan, who disguises herself as a man in order to take her old and feeble father’s place in the Chinese army. The film has many memorable songs such as “Reflection” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.” And now, it is finally going to be remade with a live action cast. After a live action Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Sleeping Beauty, the time for the warrior
maiden to shine has arrived, even though it won’t debut until 2019. But let’s be real here people, there is one major reason that this movie is going to get a lot of
attention. Many Americans, especially AsianAmericans, are excited for the news, mainly because of the fact that the stunning Chinese actress Liu Yifei will be playing the main role. Yeah, the actress is actually Chinese. The role of Asian characters, and other ethnicities, has been what is called “Hollywood whitewashed” which is when Caucasian actors or actresses play the roles of nonwhite characters. This has been seen in movies such as Ghost in the Shell, Starship
Troopers, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Dragonball: Evolution, The Martian, Aloha, and this list could go on for ages. There was even a rumor of getting Jennifer Lawrence to play Mulan. Fortunately, that ridiculous idea has been crushed thanks to Liu Yifei. Many are glad to know that the character they’ve watched as a child will not be played by someone who isn’t fit for the role, in more polite terms. Why would someone who isn’t Chinese play a Chinese heroine in ancient China? Many others have expressed such opinions on social media outlets such as Twitter and Instagram. Nevertheless, let us show our support for Liu Yifei and hope that this film lives up to our expectations.
Epicness Overload by Chelsea Planesi, Business Manager On May 2nd, 2008, Marvel Studios released Iron Man, launching a live-action franchise starring extraordinary superheroes. After almost 20 films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering its fourth phase of movies with the third Avengers film, Avengers: Infinity War. The franchise has proven itself with several amazing superhero movies in the past decade, including the outof-this-world hit Guardians of the Galaxy and, most recently, the smashing film Thor: Ragnarok. The third installment of the Avengers series will hit theaters May 4th, 2018, just ten years and two days after the release of the first MCU film. If you are beginning to question why you should go see yet another Marvel superhero film featuring the iconic band of heroes, then don’t. This movie is going to be the most epic film in the entire franchise due to it consisting of a massive lineup of both A-list actors and actresses and loved Marvel superheroes. This film features numerous iconic Marvel superheroes portrayed by amazing actors and actresses. As of December 2017, it is
confirmed that the following will feature as beloved heroes in this insanely big movie: Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Dave Bautista (Drax), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), and Don Cheadle (War Machine). Josh Brolin will star as the film’s main villain, Thanos. The star lineup so far is incredible and bigger than any other film to date. Currently, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides holds the record for largest budget, but Avengers: Infinity War is sure to take that title away with an estimated budget of $1 billion. There has to

be at least one of your favorite heroes or actors/actresses that has an appearance in this film, giving you reason enough to watch it. It is literally the largest superhero film of all time! Not only is the cast impressively massive, but also the whole movie is made up of crossovers. The Avengers are finally meeting the Guardians of the Galax, just imagine how chaotic and cool that would be. Loved characters will finally interact with each other. We can finally witness if Rocket will actually ask for Bucky’s arm, how Gamora and Black Widow will bond, and FACIAL HAIR BROS (like, what else is there to say with that one??). The only thing that would make this movie even cooler would be if the X-Men and Fantastic Four could appear in it, but, unfortunately, Marvel Studios does not have the ability to do this. This movie is going to be an action-packed superhero film on steroids, and it could very well be the largest film of the decade. Unfortunately, Marvel studios has released that they will be saying goodbye to some of the beloved heroes; audiences can expect any of the original six Avengers to be among these as the actors and actress’ contracts are expiring. Despite this inevitable tragedy, we will be introduced to more heroes to fall in love with. Avengers: Infinity War is a movie worth seeing, and it’s going to be one of the biggest films ever, so why not go see it when it comes out on May 4th?

Unhealthy Nourishments by Raymond Ali, Staff
Ice cream, frozen French fries, high calorie soda, processed meat, and sugary coffee drinks all have one thing in common: they are unhealthy and damage the human body without you knowing. Does it feel as good as it tastes? The first “nourishment” that is unhealthy, but still consumed by many humans is the ingredients people put in their meals or even drinks. Some examples include trans fats, added sugar, saturated fats, anything beyond those lines, salt, pepper etc. Instead of putting a bunch of sugar in your morning coffee or a lot of butter on your potatoes, people should enjoy a fresh glass of milk and eat things as they are, without any artificial coloring or any fatty acids. The difference between natural food and organic food is natural foods are said to be minimally processed and do not contain any hormones, antibiotics, or artificial flavors. Organic food is the most heavily regulated food system. The second “nourishment” is fried foods. The unhealthy ingredients involved with this are high heat and inflammatory oil. Some examples of fried foods could be anything from fried chicken, fried calamari, and pork rinds, to even chicken fried steak. Most fried foods are high in fat, calories and sometimes
salt. Some effects your body get from eating fried foods include obesity, high cholesterol, and even high blood pressure. Instead of eating fried foods, you should grill your food, or throw it in the oven because those are two way more healthy ways of consuming your food The third “nourishment” is fast food, something we've all had at least once. An example of fast food would be McDonalds. In many cases, fast food is highly processed and contains large amounts of carbohydrates, unhealthy fats, added sugar, and sodium. Too much sodium can lead to your blood pressure rising and too much fat can lead to obesity and both contribute to heart disease. Instead of eating these fast foods, you should go to your local market, buy some fresh veggies and a frozen chicken breast and have a nice home cooked meal before you waste your money on fast food that you’re just going to consume very quickly. Sit back and enjoy your meal. The fourth “nourishment” is almost everyone's favorite, dessert. The key ingredient from most of the desserts eaten around the world is sodium. Most restaurant desserts are so dangerous because of the portions are oversized. The sodium content is
what many people don't think about and when you eat excess sugar, the extra insulin in your bloodstream can affect your arteries, a part of your body's circulatory system. Instead of eating cake, a scoop of ice cream or a slice of pie, you should have a small scoop of sorbet. That is a low risk way to satisfy that sweet tooth at the end of a meal. The last “nourishment” is soda, a drink that contains high sugar, caffeine, and sodium content. One example of why soda is so unhealthy is the fact that it can lead to obesity or even cancer. It's also very bad for your teeth, as it can cause plaque to build up and eventually lead to cavities and gum diseases. Although soda is very unhealthy, there are some benefits: it neutralizes acids, minimizes cough and sore throat, and even eases stomach pain in some cases. Instead of drinking soda, people should start to infuse their water with fruits or even go with green tea, hot or iced. In conclusion, all of these foods are unhealthy and contribute to some sort of body disease. Instead of consuming all of these harmful nourishments, you should stick to eating fruits and vegetables. Health is wealth. They have a belief to “earn your way to heaven” and have a non-antagonistic mindset which usually can affect their way of life dramatically.
A Song of Fire and Ice by Daniel Thomas, Staff Throughout its history, the country of North Korea has been considered a joke. With their known use of propaganda, the way they isolate their own people from the outside, lock up foreign visitors, and their leader, Kim Jong-un, coming from a family of war-hungry dictators who continues the legacy, they are treated as that one kid that no one interacts with because of how abnormal they are, but still make fun of them behind their back. North Korea has been testing bombs for a while now. When Kim Jong-il was leader, he wanted the country to become a world power and did underground nuclear tests during the time North Korea and the United States were coming close to forming peace. Their peace soon fell as he continued with the tests to achieve his goal. After he died, Kim Jong-un took his place and wanted to continue the bequest of his grandfather. Since he comes from a line of tough North Korean dictators and is running a communist country, Un must live up to those expectations. He feels as if he needs to do anything in his power to build the strongest army and become a world power, even at the risk of his people’s health.
North Korea has declared war on us a few times to the point where no one believes that they would attack because they have never done anything. How can you threaten World War III if no one believes you? The only way for people to believe you is to give them a reason to: by creating a large arsenal of hydrogen bombs ready to be launched at your enemies homes at any time. It’s also not just North Korea; it’s Russia too. After Japan lost in World War II, the Korean peninsula was separated into two countries. The South part was owned by the U.S. and the North part by the Soviets. Since Russia and North Korea have been allies ever since its foundation, it is more than likely they will be on Un’s side if war ever breaks out between us. Russia has been a world power and an enemy with us since the 1950s, so Un has a big reason to not care about what will happen. China is also their ally, as they supply the North with food and energy and is their most valuable trading partner. Their relationship has dwindled a bit though. China has been opposing North Korea’s threats of nuclear warfare as Un is threatening the countries around them such as South Korea and Japan, both U.S. allies. Because of China
continuously condemning them for their threats, it is unclear if they will be on Un’s side on this, though it is possible that they will. With North Korea having everything they need to start a war, will they act? The answer is most likely no. Kim Jong Un may seem unstable and do anything to dominate the world with only North Korea and their allies left to stand, but he knows that he won’t win. He seems to be playing with the idea of full on war for personal amusement with us by continuing to test bombs even when we threatened them not to. The thing is, he knows we won’t risk the world’s life to attack either, at least for now. Right now it’s just Un and President Trump taking jabs at each other until one ends up snapping and pulling the first shot. It’s not just North Korea now though, it’s also Russia and China. It’s pretty much the Cold War all over again.

The Year of Heroes by Jordan Ritchie, Staff
A new year is upon us, and, astrologically, it’s the zodiac year of the dog, but with all of the superhero-themed movies coming out, I think it’s safe to dub 2018 as the Year of Heroes. So here’s 10 superhero movies to look out for in 2018: 1) Black Panther (Feb. 16): This film is not only the first superhero film to come out in the new year, but it’s also the first Marvel film to star a black superhero since the Blade trilogy in 1998, and to have a mainly black cast in general, starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Forest Whitaker, and more. 2) X-Men: The New Mutants (Apr. 13): The New Mutants features a completely new cast who wasn’t in any of the previous X-Men films. In fact, it’ll be the first film in the entire franchise without Hugh Jackman (Wolverine). The film won’t even include Sophie Turner, the new Jean Grey in the most recent X-Men installment, X-Men: Apocalypse. It will, however, include a different Game of Thrones star. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, will play the role of Wolfsbane. The superhero-themed horror film also features Anya Taylor-Joy from Split and Charlie Heaton of Stranger Things. This new movie is not only bringing new mutants to the cinematic franchise, but a new take on superhero movies in general. 3) Avengers: Infinity War (May 4): Infinity War marks the third movie in the Avengers quartet. Not only does it feature a new mission for the Avengers–to track down all of the Infinity Stones, but also an infinite cast. We can expect not only the stars who play all the main Avengers, but also the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and many more. And you thought Justice League had a big ensemble cast! 4) Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25): Ever since rumors of a Han Solo spin-off first came out, Star Wars fans have been going crazy to see it hit the big screen. Han Solo isn’t technically considered a “superhero”, but considering his character and actions throughout the Star Wars films, I think he earned his place on this list. Many actors auditioned to play the beloved character, including Dave Franco, Tom Felton, and Colton Haynes, but in 2016, Alden Ehrenreich was cast. Film details have been very hush hush, but it will feature Han’s adventures with Chewbacca before meeting Leia and Luke Skywalker in A New Hope.
5) Deadpool 2 (June 1): After the success of the first Deadpool film, Ryan Reynolds is returning for the sequel. Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, was rumored to make a cameo, but he has confirmed that he’s retracted his claws for good. The writers and Ryan Reynolds are still hoping for his appearance in the film, and Reynolds even went as far as sleeping outside Jackman’s house to try convince him to no avail. There are, however, rumors of Hugh Jackman still making a cameo, but just not as Wolverine. 6) The Incredibles 2 (June 15): After nearly 14 years since the first movie, the Incredibles are finally making their comeback to the big screen. The sequel is said to take place right where the first film left off, when the Parr family is unaware of their youngest’s –JackJack’s–powers, and Elastigirl is out saving the day, while her husband, Mr. Incredible, stays at home to work on being a super-dad, instead of a superhero. 7) Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6): There was much controversy about the first AntMan film. Many fans were outraged that out of all the superheroes, Marvel chose to give Ant-Man his own film, when characters like Ms. Marvel and Nova are yet to be seen on screen, but Ant-Man proved to be quite the successful underdog, topping $500 million at the box office and landing an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ant-Man and the Wasp is doing a different take on the typical superhero film. It’s going to be Marvel’s first...Romantic Comedy! 8) Venom (Oct. 5): Not much is known about the spin-off featuring the notorious Spider-Man villain, other than it will star Tom Hardy as Venom. The film is rumored to explore Eddie Brock’s (Venom) origin story, but, it’s possible that the film will actually be about Flash Thompson, a.k.a. Agent Venom. Venom’s last big screen appearance was in Tobey Maguire’s 2007 Spider-Man 3, but unless you read the comics, most people still don’t know much about Venom’s character. 9) Untitled animated Spider-Man (Dec. 14): This animated Spider-Man film is actually not about Peter Parker. For those of you who don’t know, in the 2011 comic, “Spider-Man No More”, Miles Morales is bitten by the spider that bit Peter Parker and develops his powers. Spider-Man later dies, so Miles continues Peter’s legacy and becomes the new Spider-Man.
10) Aquaman (December 21): Although Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Aquaman is very different from the original, many fans are still hyped to see this beloved Justice League member get his own film. Many were skeptical about Momoa taking the role of Aquaman, as he looks nothing at all like the traditional hero. However, if fans enjoyed his performance in Justice League, he’ll for sure make a successful mark for himself as our new king of the sea. Look out for all of these movies when they hit the box office. Happy New Year! Make it a super one…
