Just Another Zine

Artist Bio: Sara Grawbarger-Kuefler (aka Grey Hills Studio) I was born and raised in Calgary, AB, with the exception of 3 years spent in Waterloo, ON during Elementary/Junior High. After High School I attended the University of Calgary for literature and fine art, which was an excellent experience. Much of my learning has been self-taught though, and I love to continue to explore new avenues within my artistic practice. I have worked in a variety of mediums; however, photography has been something that has been in my life in one incarnation or another since grade 2 or earlier (I have evidence). My biggest loves right now in respect to art are documenting music and musicians, both live and via portraiture (on hold until after social isolation requirements have been lifted), and experimenting with anologue forms of photography. I still regularly use the 35mm SLR I bought in High School and will probably cry real tears if she ever dies on me. Mental health has also been a very significant focus of mine over the last while as it is something I have always struggled with. I greatly appreciate that the social landscape around this issue is changing. A lot of my self portraiture is very intensely tied to the need to express some of my personal struggles. Even though no one has the exact same experience, I hope we can feel less alone in realizing we do all struggle, sometimes similarly. I cherish the Calgary arts scene and appreciate with infinite depth that we can foster each others’ self expression and unique weirdness. For this project I have chosen images related to life during Covid-19. These were captured on 35mm film.
