Visiting Planet 13

I

know they say to keep things in Vegas or whatever - but listen. I kicked off 2020 with a family trip (grandma’s idea of course: “there’s something for everyone in Vegas”). And while there, I went to the largest dispensary in the world. Planet 13. Pulling up in the taxi we caught the glow of the Planet 13 sign. There was a large illuminated orb behind the letters – maybe they intended this to indicate a planet. Water skimmed the surface of the orb. It looked oddly calming and the waterworks felt very Vegas. When we first get inside, we’re herded into a roped-off line. As with almost anything in Vegas, you have to wait in line first. This is the dispensary check in where we show our IDs and get entry tickets. It feels vaguely like the experience of entering a museum. After this, I’m still not quite in

the space they keep all the weed displays yet. The tall ceilings and rooms that looked like stores made me feel like I was in a mall. To the left there’s a café that’s closing for the night. And at the very end of the hall right in front of me sat a beautiful, red Volkswagen bus. I was in awe. To the right is where we scanned our tickets and were allowed through the gate into the giant dispensary room with a big shrine to PAX smack in the center. There were display cases galore. The first few I looked at were hard to wrap my head around. A 24k golden cannabis cigar priced at $1000USD. This was not the world of weed I’ve been accustomed to. The way people were interacting with the display cases made the space feel like a cannabis museum. People drew themselves closer to the display case to see the crystals and

*Pre-isolation shapes of display buds. Whether you were there for chocolate, gummies, oil, vape pens, pre-rolls, bud, merch, shatter – they probably have everything you can think of and more all in one giant room. Display case after display case held something new. There was so much choice that I honestly just wanted someone to choose for me. We were asking about a pen and stumbled upon the brand rep who was visiting the store. He helped us decide between a few. And when we paid, he had given us a 25% discount and an *absolutely useless* freebie bag with a frisbee and a whole lot of crap. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed with my experience. We were well stocked for the trip and had experienced yet another Vegas phenomenon.
