Informative Lectures Presented by Distinguished Speakers

The 25th Annual Congress of the Lebanese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Lipids (LSEDL) was held on the 24 – 26 June 2022 at Movenpick Hotel, Beirut. It gathered more than 250 attendees from all over the world, to discuss the updates on different subjects in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolic diseases.

The Lebanese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Lipids is the official scientific society of the Lebanese order of physicians that gathers endocrinologists in Lebanon. With around 200 members, LSEDL holds monthly scientific activities, disease-specific events as related to diabetes and obesity months. Its biggest activity is the annual congress held in June every year; this year’s congress was characterized by a return to in-person attendance with many international speakers coming to Lebanon, in addition to local speakers. Highlights of the congress were updates in pituitary diseases, therapies of thyroid cancer and polycystic ovary syndrome, pearls in adrenal disease, mechanism of bariatric surgery, in addition to topics related to diabetes management. The congress included informative lectures presented by distinguished speakers from different countries.

The first day of the congress included lectures about ‘A New Future in the Management of Cushing’s Syndrome’, accompanied with clinical cases from MENA. ‘Uncontrolled Acromegaly’ was also discussed focusing on medical management of acromegaly.

As for the second day, many topics were discussed such as Mechanisms of Action of Metabolic/Obesity Surgery, Cardio-Renal Approach in Diabetes, Pheochromocytoma, pituitary adenomas in pregnancy, transgender medicine and glucocorticoid withdrawal.

The third and last day of the congress included different topics that cover many diseases including Management of Osteoporosis and Positioning of Denosumab, Prolactinomas: The Old and The New, Update on Pathophysiology, Diagnosis & Treatment of Adolescent PCOS, Innovation and Insulin Therapy: Improving Lives of Diabetic Patients. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CONGRESS WERE UPDATES IN PITUITARY DISEASES, THERAPIES OF THYROID CANCER AND POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME, PEARLS IN ADRENAL DISEASE, MECHANISM OF BARIATRIC SURGERY, IN ADDITION TO TOPICS RELATED TO DIABETES MANAGEMENT.
