student media

Student Media serves as Boise State’s independent student-run media source whose purpose is to provide our student audience with relevant and engaging content and entertainment. We specialize in print, radio, online, mobile and video platforms engaging a larger audience.

Student Media is a leading innovator in mobile and new media development. We understand how students are getting information today – because we are students. We create new, engaging content where, when and how our student audience wants it.

Student Media employs an award winning design team to provide your business with the professional look it rightfully deserves. Our designers have won numerous awards from the Idaho Press Club, College Media Advisors Association (CMA), Associated Collegiate Press and College Newspaper, and the Business and Advertising Managers association.

guidelines print ads Ads designed by Student Media will cost a minimum of $30 per size. If you have artwork prepared by an organization other than Student Media, please read the following document requirements.

Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop Files:

We accept .ai and .psd files from Illustrator/Photoshop CS3, CS4, and CS5. CS5.5 and CS6 files are not accepted. Document size must be set for the actual printed size and Hi-resolution (260-300dpi, or dots-perinch). Convert all type to Paths (create outlines) and esure that the file color setting is CMYK (4-color process). Please include all font faces used in the ad, and avoid type smaller than 6pt. in size.

Adobe PDF Files:

PDF files should be Hi-Resolution (260-300dpi, or dots-per-inch) with No compression. Please ensure that the file color setting is CMYK (4-color process). Use PDF/1-x with 5.0 or above compatability if

your document contains any transparencies or opacity alterations.

If you cannot provide artwork at actual size, minimize the amount of white space (or blank space) around the actual artwork and provide cutlines. Please notify your Sales Represenative if your ad is not at actual size.

radio ads Please ensure that you provide a stereo MP3 file at 64kbps and 44kHz. We do not use wellknown or popular music in advertisements we produce. All commercials should be 30 seconds in length. Produced commercial formats include pre-recorded straight reads with sound effects or background music, dialogue, monologue (where the voice talent portrays a character, as opposed to an announcer), jingles, or any combination of these.

online ads Please ensure that you provide a GIF (including animated GIF), JPG, PNG, SWF (Flash), DoubleClick, or DART file. Please consult your Sales Represenative with any other file format. A recommended file size of 40kb is suggested. Artwork resolution should be appropriate for online formats (72-240dpi, or dots-per-inch). If animations are used they should adhere to the IAB standard of 24fps and last no more than 15 seconds.

policy payment Prepayment: for new advertisers, prepayment is required prior to publication. For multiple run contracts, 25% of the total contract price must be paid until credit is established. All political advertising must be prepaid. Credit: Invoices are sent out at the end of each week with statements being mailed out monthly. Terms are net 30 days and there is a 15% charge on all returned checks. If an account becomes delinquent after 30 days, the account will accrue a finance charge of 1.5% per month (18% APR) or a minimum of $15 and may be turned over to a collection agency. Payment types: Checks, Visa, MasterCard or Discover are gladly accepted.

ad policy Boise State Student Media has the right to deny any advertisement, at any time. Any decisions about ad cancellation are made at the discretion of the student Business Manager, student Editor-In-Chief and student Pulse General Manager. Boise State Student Media is recognized as a public forum by Boise State University and as such leaves all content decisions, including those regarding advertising, to the student leadership within the media organization. Alcohol Ad Policy: It is Boise State Student Media’s first amendment right to run, or not run, advertisements regarding alcohol. While Boise State Student Media is not subject to any controls regarding alcohol advertisements by Boise State University, Boise State Student Media encourages the responsible consumption of alcohol in any advertisement.

Political Ad Policy: All political ads are subject to approval prior to running and it is the responsibility of the party submitting any political ads to adhere to all local, state and federal political regulations. Political ads may also be accepted in one format and not another - eg. print but not radio. All political ads must be prepaid, in full, prior to running in any Student Media outlet.
