San Diego sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman (13) is the nation’s second leading rusher (1,278 yards) heading into the matchup with Boise State this Saturday.
Aztec warriors can run and throw Lucio Prado Journalist
The football team looks to focus their sights on the San Diego State Aztecs this week after suffering its first loss of the season last Saturday on the blue. The question fans are asking now is: can the players, knowing that their season will most likely end with with another trip to the MACCO Las Vegas Bowl,
respond with a win against a tough team with NFL talent like the Aztecs? Saturday, the Broncos will be playing in Qualcomm stadium— an NFL stadium—against the talented Aztecs. Aztec sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman is only 5 feet, 10 inches tall, but plays like a giant. Hillman ranks second nationally in rushing with an average of 149.75 yards per game. The sophomore ranks
eighth in all-purpose yards with an average of 175.75 yards a game and his 10.50 point per game average ranks in the top15 in the country. A three-time league player of the week for the Mountain West, Hillman has reached the century mark on the ground in seven of the team’s eight games this year—churning out 1,000 yards for his second consecutive season. With 13 100-yard rushing games, 10 games with 150-
yard rushing and three games with 200-yard outputs, Hillman has managed to accumulate 2,730 total rushing yards on 461 carries. Not to mention his 30 touchdowns to go with it. Hillman will definitely be playing on Sundays. If the Broncos hope to win, the key will be to slowing down this potent ground-game that starts and ends with Hillman. Although Hillman is a threat on the ground, after watching
last week’s game the Broncos may want to concern themselves with San Diego State’s aerial attack. The Aztecs feature a prototypical 6-foot,4-inch, 230-pound quarterback senior Ryan Lindley. Understanding that the Broncos’ secondary is beat up, Lindley must be licking his chops to get the opportunity to air it out on Saturday. Lindley has thrown for more than 2,500 yards in three years as starter.
He is the first Aztec to pass for more than 3,000 yards in backto-back years since 1995-96 and ranks second in San Diego State history in career passing yards, completions, attempts, passing touchdowns and total offense. Lindley has thrown for 1,957 yards this season and has 15 touchdowns. With an average of 220 passing yards a game, Lindley could have a huge outing against a beat-up Bronco secondary on Saturday.

A game of Cowboys versus Broncos
What to think of a revitalized Wyoming team John Garretson
Online Sports Editor Coming back from San Diego, the Boise State Broncos (8-1, 3-1 in Mountain West) will not have much breathing room as they square-off against the Wyoming Cowboys (6-3, 3-1 MW) on Nov. 26 at noon. The Cowboys have coasted under the Mountain West radar this year. A team that went 1-7 in conference play and 3-9 overall, the Cowboys have seen a vast turnaround in their playing abilities since Boise State trampled them 51-7 last year, becoming a legitimate competitor in the Mountain West. The guiding light for the revamped Cowboys is freshman quarterback Brett Smith, who’s thrown for more than 2,000 yards with a 60.7 percent completion rate coupled with 14 touchdowns and only

five interceptions. Smith has shown flashes of his speed on the gridiron, running for 378 yards and a team high eight touchdowns. In the Cowboys’ backfield junior running back Alvester Alexander, who’s been a consistent factor in the Wyoming offense, continues to put up worthy numbers this season with 489 yards rushing for four scores and averaging 4.4 yards a carry. Alexander shares the carrying duty with junior Ghaali Muhammed, who has 379 yards, two touchdowns and 6.3 yards a carry and sophomore Brandon Miller with 297 yards, two touchdowns and 5.4 yards a carry. This is Alexander’s first year as running back for the Cowboys, he has played on the other side of the ball as safety and outside linebacker the past two seasons. Smith’s go-to guy in the
receiving corps, junior Chris McNeill, has a lofty 42 receptions for 504 yards and four scores. The defensive side of the Wyoming Cowboys seems to be just as potent as their offense, a squad led by senior defensive end/tackle Gabe Knapton, who has recorded 60 tackles total, 5.5 for a loss, five sacks and two fumble recoveries. Knapton’s counterpart, senior defensive end Josh Biezuns, also has been known to disrupt the offense as seen with his 44 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks and four forced fumbles. Expect the tandem to create havoc for the Boise State offensive line. It would be naïve to expect the Wyoming Cowboys to play like their performance last year against the Broncos and with TCU’s win against Boise State on the blue, it goes to show that conference games are no walk in the park.
