The SUB is the place to purchase concert tickets, view an art exhibition, play arcade games, bowl, shoot pool or watch a live show in the Special Events Center. If you’re hungry, the Boise River Café is open to the public and offers a buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other campus eateries are located in the SUB Food Court, Albertsons Library, Interactive Learning Center, Education Building and the new Micron Business and Economics Building. Don’t forget to pick up your official blue and orange Bronco gear at the Bronco Shop, where your purchases fund scholarships. Last year $1 million was returned to the university to assist students. You’ll also find Bronco Shops in Bronco Stadium and throughout the valley.

BRONCO STADIUM

Check out Boise State’s iconic blue football field. Initially installed in 1986, the nation’s first full-field colored turf has helped focus national attention on the Broncos’ rising intercollegiate profile. A recent stadium expansion boosted seating capacity to 37,000 and a new 68,000-squarefoot football complex rising in the north end zone is slated to open in summer 2013. The stadium also is home to the Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band and the university’s Mane Line Dancers. Overlooking the football field is the Stueckle Sky Center, which offers premium seating for games, elegant event space and a stunning view of the Boise Foothills.

LIVING & LEARNING

Seven residence halls, several apartment buildings and a new townhouse complex along Lincoln Avenue offer on-campus housing. Five Living and Learning communities include faculty in residence, where professors facilitate learning by living in the residence halls alongside students. Albertsons Library provides thousands of online journals, databases, books, DVDs, CDs and maps, and offers study spaces, computers, printing and laptop checkout. On the second floor, Special Collections houses unique photo and manuscript collections, rare books and the university archives. Take a break at Starbucks just inside the front door. The Interactive Learning Center supports the latest in educational technology with multi-media labs, a distance-learning classroom and even a 3D visualization classroom. You’ll also find several dining options in the first-floor common area. The Norco Building houses the School of Nursing and the Health Center, which includes a medical clinic and a limited pharmacy.

THE SCIENCE OF LEARNING As a STEM major I have found many programs that help me succeed in my academic career. Being involved with engineering organizations and clubs has given me the chance to attend conferences in Orlando, Chicago and Seattle, which may open doors for internships or scholarships. There are so many opportunities at Boise State.

B

oise State is committed to providing a solid education in science,

technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The university is an emerging research leader in biomolecular science, innovative materials, health and public policy, sensors, and nanoelectronics and integrated systems Because STEM subjects are vital to continued growth and innovation in a high-tech world, distinguished educator-in-residence and former astronaut Barbara Morgan heads the university’s efforts to improve STEM education in Idaho and beyond.

STEM STATION

Boise State’s STEM Station connects students to the resources they need. The office engages STEM faculty and students in research and service– learning projects addressing energy, environment, education and other challenges. It also is a central office for coordinating National Science Foundation and other STEMrelated programs on campus and throughout Idaho.

RAPTOR RESEARCH Boise State is the only university in the United States to offer a master of science degree in raptor biology. In addition, the nonprofit Idaho Bird Observatory, a trapping and banding station, offers opportunities to study raptor migration. The IBO monitors migratory birds and teaches the public about their greater ecological significance. Each January, the IBO sponsors Bald Eagle Days at the Barber Pool Conservation Area along the Boise River.

NASA

Boise State students have participated in NASA’s STEM and pre-service teacher training, student research teams have participated in NASA’s Microgravity University three times and students and graduates are working at NASA centers across the country.

BOISE STATE SPEAKS DIGITAL

IDoTEACH

IDoTeach is designed to recruit a largely untapped pool of talented Idaho college students majoring in STEM subjects into secondary education careers. Surveys have shown the need for approximately 500 math teachers and 400 science teachers in Idaho in the near future. Through the IDoTeach program, underclass STEM majors who are interested in teaching are trained and have the opportunity to teach fundamental math and science lessons to elementary and junior high school students.

SUSTAINABILITY

From efforts to digitize arts and humanities primary sources to the use of iPads, GIS and game design in the classroom, students are graduating with an increased understanding of cutting-edge technology.

• Boise State’s carbon footprint is among the smallest of all universities in the country.

All centrally located classrooms are equipped with wireless access, half of the classrooms are set up for lecture capture, software allows faculty to publish lectures to the web and all University Foundation 100 courses include a studentcreated digital media component.

• Sustainability efforts like alternative transportation programs, recycling and the use of biofuel help “the blue” stay green.

• The campus Energy Research Policy makes infrastructure more energy efficient.

he most pressing need in higher education today is funding for our

brightest and most gifted students. Scholarships allow high-ability students to realize their potential for becoming tomorrow’s artists, researchers, policymakers and thought leaders, regardless of their ability to pay.

SCHOLARSHIPS CHANGE LIVES Scholarships play a key part in making the dream of college accessible to students from all walks of life. Boise State is keenly aware of the need to provide high quality education that is also affordable. Financial concerns are the top reason students leave Boise State before earning their degree. And many, who may be unlikely to leave the area for financial or cultural reasons, opt out of college altogether due to their inability to pay. Scholarships ensure that the best and most deserving students become and remain Broncos, that they have the means to reach their goals and that they succeed to their fullest ability.
