STRENGTH TRAINING AND AGING HEALTHILY

Our Fitness Centre focuses on strength training and physical activity to help you maintain a healthy, happy body.

The human body is an amazing organism able to heal and repair itself. It can keep improving no the matter time or age. However, time does affect the body in different ways: bone development, hormonal changes, cardio-respiratory conditioning, and muscle loss – just to name a few. It is crucial to recognize that the way we take care of ourselves, both physically and mentally, will help us maintain a healthy body as we age. Research has shown that regular physical activity and exercise for seniors helps improve mental and physical health, both of which will help you maintain your independence as you age. Well-designed training programs will activate mechanical and chemical signals that will have a deep effect on hormone interactions in the body. One of the famous hormones that you might have heard about are endorphins. Endorphins interact with different receptors in the body and are commonly known because they release the “feel good” response. These hormones help relieve stress, improve sleep, and promote the feeling of satisfaction. Other important hormones like testosterone, dopamine, serotonin, and many more have a positive influence in the way we perceive the world and ourselves. Beginning in January 2023 the Club will be offering programs specifically geared with our senior members in mind, helping them get moving safely and effectively in our Fitness Centre.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ADULTS OF AGE 65 AND OLDER GET AT LEAST:

150 minutes of a moderate intensity activity every day or an equivalent of 75 minutes a week of vigorous activity. At least two days a week of muscle strengthening and healthy movement patterns to improve balance, coordination, and core strength.
