Learn handbuilding skills to make cups - simple to very complex - and be introduced to dynamic handles, foot rings, glazes, and surface decorations. We will be concentrating on working in series and sets using slabs and molds.

Using a mold of a sculpture you previously made, you will be able create multiple versions of your sculpture. There will also be an option to create a waste mold (or one-time use mold), which is more economical. See the material lists available online and determine if you will make a Silicone Mold or Waste Mold. This class will include demos, technical discussion of different mold making techniques, and individual instruction.

PORTRAIT SCULPTURE

Lori Shorin 18S SCU107: Thursdays, 9:15 AM to 12:15 PM, Mar 29-May 17 8 sessions $278 ($283 after Mar 15) Material fee All - Firing levels fee Material list: tasoc.org Model 7 sessions In this course, we will sculpt from direct observation of a portrait model and plaster casts of facial features. Learn a logical approach to developing the observational skills needed to create a likeness of the human face. The first class will consist of making anatomical studies of individual facial features: eye, nose, mouth and ear. Subsequently, there will be eight sessions with one portrait model. Students will work in water-based clay and the finished portrait will be bisque fired. Each student will receive quality instruction with special attention to maximizing individual potential. Sculpting demonstrations, individual instruction, group critiques, presentations of contemporary and old master sculptors, and inspirational reading geared towards inner reflection to cultivate creativity and focus are included.

Students in this class will be introduced to wheel-throwing and handbuilding techniques and taught to utilize them to explore the creation of various vessel forms. Be creative, get stress relief, and learn something new! Beginners or those who feel they need a refresher course are welcome.
