PRESENTS
With the new body of work presented in »I’ll Bring You Flowers« Peter Phobia deals with a society that is perpetually connected to social media and therefore taking this as a main platform for political information and education. In a world where it seems to be the most desirable thing to be well-presented and acclaimed in the online cosmos it get’s harder and harder to filter scam and adequate information – politic-wise, career-wise and social-wise, we get blinded by empty promises on a daily basis. It therefore does not surprise that looking at Peter Phobia’s collage work, which readopts a lot from the aesthetics of the late 70s and 80s, immediately gets the spectator in a feeling of sweet melancholy. It is the spirit of a time which marks the last ‘analogue time period’ before the introduction of the internet completely turned around our lives. Yet, this warm sense of well-being soon gets cracked once one pays more attention to the scribbled notes next to the pictures. They act like a reminder to stop us from blindly falling for superficial offers that trigger us with fake attractiveness like a bouquet of flowers, given as an apology for mistreatment.

Peter Phobia is an artist currently living in Vienna, Austria. Predominantly focussing on drawing, his works range from small pieces to larger than life formats. Even though his use of color is mostly restrained and limited it still has a strong impact on his work. The use of written elements in form of quotes and excerpts of texts play an important role in his art and often complement the visual parts in his pieces. He is deeply influenced by pop culture, everyday life observations and often comments on the human being within society. His work is rather a statement but an open invitation to reflect on current topics in society. Phobia‘s artwork has been shown in numerous places around the globe, such as New York, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Barcelona, Madrid, Switzerland, Lithuania, Serbia, Liechtenstein and Mexico. www.peterphobia.com
