My fellow anglers and friends, Greetings to all. I hope all of you have been having fantastic fishing days. We are now into the season of heavy rains and thunder storms, a time for sebarau chasers to hit the sebarau hotspots. But for those who prefer the lesser wet type of fishing perhaps one could use the time to service oneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s reel and make them better; soup them up even with high quality grease, bearings, etc. While most of us focus on our reels, let us not forget our rods too. It is good to clean the guides and reel seat ensuring there are no kinks in the guide inserts, and damage to the reel seat. You could upgrade some of your rods too especially those with quality blanks, perhaps to the latest Fuji guides with newer technologically improved inserts the likes of Alconite. We have two contests this time round. One is a short story writing contest that is open to all anglers in Malaysia and the next is to win special preview passes to the Big Bad Wolf book sale. Veritas 2.0 Testing Grounds: Natural Exotic Pond Rawang Series: Veritas 2.0 Model: VRTC662-5 (Medium) Opponents: Amazon Red Tail Catfish

he first Abu Garcia Veritas rod came about some 8 years ago and it was a hit. Abu Garcia recently launched the Veritas 2.0, a pearl white version of the earlier Veritas of which was plain white. But there is more to this new 2.0.

A Rod For Stormtroopers

If you are a fan of Star Wars you will know why I call the Veritas 2.0 the rod for Stormtroopers. The pearl white and black design of the rods conjures up images of Stormtroopers. It simply suits them well. Not many superstitious folks like white rods but personally I think the Veritas 2.0 looks good.

Components

The Veritas 2.0 comes battle ready with lightweight Titanium alloy guides with SiC inserts which is great for heat distribution (reducing line fatigue) which translates to reduced line wear and tear. It also comes with quality EVA grips and Abu Garcia designed extreme exposure reel seat that allows for more blank contact and thus better feel. 15

Blank

The Veritas 2.0 uses what Abu Garcia calls the Spiral Carbon Core. The Spiral Carbon Core is simply a strand of carbon that is rolled within the blank from one section of the blank to a lower section (tip to butt). This creates a spiral after it is rolled. This is said to improve the break strength of the rod.

Overall Balance

The Veritas 2.0 that I have is slightly tip heavy which is good since it is a casting rod. Fixing a reel to it brings the weight back a little and lightens the rod slightly. Overall it feel good in the hands while fishing.

Field Test

We took the Veritas 2.0 to the Exotic Pond in Rawang, Selangor, Malaysia and pit it against the gladiators there (Amazon red tail catfish). The rod cast well shooting our baits right into the zone where the red tails waited. Before long we were in battle. The Amazon red tail catfish may be hard fighters but the Veritas 2.0 stood its ground.

The Veritasâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Spiral Carbon Core blank took the beatings well and has enough power to punch back, turning the heads of the gladiators away from the snags. The battles didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t take long on high drag setting.

Summary

The Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 is a good rod with enough fighting power. It is also a reasonably light rod. Some people may not agree with the colour white but I personally like its cosmetics. More important to me is how it performs and it has done well. Calling all Stormtroopers, it is time to go catch some fish.

ishing amongst heavy covers such as weeds, logs, branches, etc. can be very rewarding as well as heart breaking. It is rewarding because fishes love hanging out in places that they feel protected in and such cover gives them that. It is heart breaking as most fishes that take the bait end up snagging the line and escaping without ever seeing the angler. 27

Heavy Cover Pile Driver

Going heavy cover with your normal casting rod is certainly a big risk and that includes rod breakage (also due to frustration). Why bring a knife to a gun fight? For this battle bring the Abu Garcia Helios, a pile driver of a rod that will allow you to pump the fish out of snags, with said snag attached.

No So Lightweight

The Helios is a gladiatorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s rod for use with fighting in heavily covered territories where every target has a plan to take that bait right into the snags. To do so one can take the term feather light weight and shaft it down the toilet. The Helios is made for battle and certainly not for play.

^ This is where the fishes hideout and thus why it is called heavy cover fishing.

Just talk to any old timer snakehead angler; those that fish wearing long sleeves, long pants, rubber boots, and a large reamed hat; fishing under the sun, casting their baits into little pockets of water amongst the weeds, grass, etc. and youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re know why such a rod is needed.

Good Grip

The Helios comes with synthetic cork fore handle / grip and EVA rear grip / handle. EVA can be slippery especially when it comes to fishing for the slimy brown snakehead and thus cork will provide a better grip. That said, EVA provides for better comfort when grip within oneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s arm and body.

Taking On The Fighters

^ Synthetic cork end reduces slip when rod is standing and adds to the aesthetics.

Taking the Helios to our usual test site, we had zero worries for the rod. We can cast right next to the pillars (where the fishes hideout) and pull the darn restaurant down... or rather the pull the fish out on high drag.

Casting Issues

^ Quality standard guides that helps reduce cost.

One obstacle we hit was the rods inability to cast light baits. Casting half a little fish that far out was difficult as the tip of the Helios is rather stiff. After about three tries we decided to use a heavier jig head. That helped get the baits near the pillars. 33

Tug-O-War

^ Muscular and full of power.

With the drag pushed up high every fight was a tug-o-war. When the red tail Amazonians took the bait, we got a good arm and back workout. We had zero issues dragging them out of the danger areas and playing them back to land. The issues only came the next day when muscles start to sore.

Verdict

The Abu Garcia Helios is made to fight. It may not look as good as many other Abu Garcia rods and it certainly is not a lightweight rod; but when it comes to the things that matters most, it does them really well. Personally this style of fishing isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t for me but if you are into it, this is one heck of a good rod to have on your fishing trips. Here is the deal. It is not about refinements but raw power. 35

or the brand conscious angler shopping at a budget, big brands the likes of Shimano does have a segment of rods placed in this category. The Shimano Cruzar falls into this category at a price that is hard for those at a budget to turn down. So how would such a rod fair when it comes to fishing? 41

Cosmetics

The Cruzar looks decent coming in black and white with about two rounds of silver coloured thread on black at the thread windings. It comes with black EVA grip and a rubber end cap of which is great as they are easy to clean and helps the rod stand without slipping as easily as metal caps do.

No Frills

When it comes to the components the Cruzar comes with zero frills. Normal China guides and reel seat, mid quality EVA handles. For a Shimano rod at this price range nothing more should be expected.

Blank

The Cruzar come with a fibre glass blank of which helps make the price possible. Using such blanks however gives the rod a wobbly feel and usually brings the weight up but Shimano has done a good job in keeping the weight low with good balance.

Field Test

Using relatively light soft baits that had to be cast a reasonable distance, we cast our baits out with relative ease but accuracy was an issue most likely due to the wobbly tip of the rod. However, we were still getting hits. 45

Playing To A “C“

The Cruzar comes with minimal backbone despite being rated 8-16lb of which lands it within medium action territory, but it suited the fishing here. The barramundis here bent the Cruzar into a “C” allowing for more fun sort of fishing. Needless to say we caught lots of fish with it and had fun.

Verdict

^ A rubber end cap allows the rod to stand with less slipping and rubber does not soak up liquids and dirt.

The Shimano Cruzar is budget no frills rod for anglers that want a branded rod but at a low price. Despite being a no frills rod and a rod with minimal backbone we still had lots of fun and landed a good amount of barramundis.

UV Coated

UV or Ultraviolet is highly penetrative and can be found under very deep or murky water, even penetrating our skin. The UV coat on Viper jigs are capable of reflecting light as long as there are ultraviolet rays present, which is almost everywhere! Therefore UV coated lures will definitely capture predatorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s attention better than conventional lures.

Besides being highly visible underwater, UV is emitted by baitfish, prawns, squids and a lot of predatory fish diet emits UV ray in their natural environment, as proven by science. This shows that targeted fishes will actually be attracted to UV ray emitted by Viper jigs rather than being repulsed by it. By the same token, researcher also noted that predatory fishes hunt prey by searching out the UV rays emitted by the said prey. Therefore they (predators) are highly attracted to UV rays. 55

Unlike glow in dark paint, UV coating does not require charging to emit light, it glows naturally with UV lights. Last but not least, UV coats will not be destroyed by sunlight or high temperature unlike glow in dark paint, making it virtually indestructible.

UV Blast

UV Blast is a chemical coating that reflects ultraviolet light. This coating’s special formulation has the effect of “lighting up” lures. CS Coatings manufacturers a variety of odor free clear coats with UV Blast. We also have pigmented dies for lures and soft plastics which contain the UV Blast formulation.

What Is UV Light?

UV light is short wavelength, high frequency energy from sun and stars, invisible to us, but visible to a variety of the fish species scientists have tested so far. 59

Why UV Light?

About 60% of sunlight that cuts through the waterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s surface is UV light. UV light penetrates clear water far deeper than human-visible light. Oceanographers have found UV light 700â&#x20AC;&#x2122; deep. The scales of many prey fish reflect UV light. Bluegills are an example. Zooplankton, shrimp, squid, and many aquatic insects also reflect UV light. This silhouettes them against their bluegreen background, making these creatures more visible to their predators. UV light also polarizes, especially early and late in the day. Diverse gamefish detect polarized light.

How Does UV Blast Work?

In clear water UV light reflects further off UV-Blast coated baits than regular light does. UV light even brightens fluorescent lures. Fish find baits that reflect UV light faster than those without. 61

What Fish Will Respond Best To UV Blast?

Many fish that eat zooplankton see UV light. In saltwater, biologists have found that pink, chum, coho, sockeye, and masu salmon detect UV light. Weakfish and flounder also detect UV light. In freshwater, biologists found that brown and rainbow trout, kokanee, yellow perch, white suckers, carp, bluegill, and pumpkinseed sunfish detect UV light. Largemouth and smallmouth bass â&#x20AC;&#x201C; members of the sunfish family â&#x20AC;&#x201C; may also see UV light. Many fish species have yet to be tested to determine if they detect UV light.

When Will UV Blast Attract Fish?

UV paints are effective in any daylight. But early and late in the day, UV light penetrates the waterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s surface much better than human-visible light. UV also penetrates fog and clouds. At these times, UV light is by far the greatest amount of light in water. Moonlight and starlight also contain energy from the UV spectrum. 63

Where Does UV Blast Work Best?

UV light makes up nearly all the light in deep, clear water. Mud, algal blooms, and glacial till absorb and scatter UV light decreasing the depth which it penetrates. Long wavelength, low frequency, non-UV light â&#x20AC;&#x201C; red and infrared â&#x20AC;&#x201C; will cut through murkier water better.

UV Blast Vs. Glow Paint?

UV Blast reflects light. As long as thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sunlight, UV Blast brightens baits. Glow baits give off their own light. They store light energy above water, then release it underwater. Eventually the glow is used up. The bait fades and you need a bright light to recharge it. Direct sun burns glow paints, but not UV Blast. It needs no recharging. It does not fade Contents Page

Abu Garcia Gambit Hard Rook

bu Garcia launched the Gambit series a couple of months back and one of them is the Hard Rook of which seems to be inspired by chess pieces. The rook is actually the castle in the chess game, a chess piece that can go the distance on a chessboard.

Familiar Colour Scheme

For fans of Abu Garcia and those whom have followed this brand for a long time may notice that it picks up a lot of its design cues from the more famous Conolon rod series with the with the familiar red, silver, on black colours; with the exception of the maroon section where the name is located.

Overall the Hard Rook looks classic with a mix of sporty modern design concepts using carbon fibre wraps at the reel seat nut and contoured rear EVA handle / grip. The contoured EVA sections not only look good but also adds to the reduction of weight while providing for a better grip.

Blank Wise

The Hard Rook uses 24 ton graphite blanks of which is a versatile blank being softer at the tip thus giving good casting action and yet still having good amounts of backbone power needed when battling hard fighting fishes. Personally I feel that 24 ton graphite blanks suit most anglers in our region.

No Frills Rod

No keep the rod affordable Abu Garcia fitted the rod with quality standard guides and reel seats that will get the job done. Abu Garcia chose to use high quality EVA handles instead of lower cost alternatives though. This setup allows one to own the rod at an affordable price and upgrade as and when one is comfortable with.

Introduction To Bottom Fishing

Part 2

ast issue we talked about what bottom fishing is. This time we look at some of the fishing tackle that you will need for bottom fishing. We will first look at the usual bottom fishing setup to be used in lakes and ponds, excluding setup for specialized styles of bottom fishing.

The Fishing Rod

^ Reel seat has got no trigger. This reel seat is meant for a spinning reel

For bottom fishing I recommend a spinning type rod. For those of you who are new to fishing, a spinning rod comes with two distinct features that are different than that of a bait casting rod. Spinning rods have larger guides and a reel seat without a trigger.

^ This reel seat comes with a trigger and it is meant to be used with a bait casting reel. While one can use bait casting reels for bottom fishing, it is less ideal.

^ Spinning rods have taller and larger guides. The reason being that spinning reels retrieve lines by circling around a spool and as creates a circle with a pretty wide diameter. Smaller guides will create more friction and friction damages lines. 91

My recommendation is to get one that comes with a graphite blank around and about 24 ton rating or higher. Some rods do not show a rating but what you can do is to find one with good enough backbone power. Rods come in various actions and they are Ultralight (UL), Light (L), Medium Light (ML), Medium (M), Medium Heavy (MH), Heavy (H), Extra Heavy (XH). Each action have got their own spec range and for a start a Medium action rod with line weight of 6-14lb will be a good enough.

The Fishing Reel

To match your rod you will need a spinning reel. A spinning reel looks somewhat like an eggbeater. They are easier to use and are great for beginners. They come sizes such as 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, upwards to 30000. Some classify them as size 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 ,70, 80, and so on. Then there are the in betweens such as 2500, 3500, 4500, etc. 93

Lets us just classify them as light, medium, heavy. Light will be reels sizes 1000 to 3500. Medium will be from size 4000 to 5500. Heavy will be from size 6000 upward. But for a start a size 3000 reel will be good enough.

Fishing Lines

^ Monofilament line above and superline below.

There are a few types of lines broken into two main categories and they are monofilaments and the more expensive superlines. There are more within each category but for now weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll stop at that. Monofilament lines are cheaper but they have some stretch (some more than others) and they are generally thicker than superlines pound for pound. 95

Superlines cost more but they are thinner pound for pound and they have zero or close to zero stretch of which are its strengths; but they are noisier, tends to float, and can easily dig into spool of lines. For beginners my recommendation is to go with low stretch monofilament. As lines come in many poundage as low as 1+lb upwards, my recommendation for starter with the 4000 to 5000 size reel is to go with 10 to 12lb very low stretch monofilament lines. Oh yes, before I forget; we are talking about the main line up till now.

Leaders

^ Various types of leaders.

Still in the line section, the leader is the shorter length of line that is attached to the end of the mainline. It acts as a shock absorber when the fish takes the bait thus avoiding a line burst. Being a shock absorber you will want a leader with some stretch but not too much since the monofilament mainline too has some stretch. Too much stretch and you will have problems setting the hook. 97

The other option is to go for the almost no stretch Fluorocarbon leaders. They are almost invisible under water and they do not float thus allowing your baits to drop to the fishing zones faster. They do cost substantially more though but is worth the investment. The leader also takes more bruising being scrapped by rocks, bitten by fish, etc. A strong leader is important.

Since the leader does play a sacrificial role (literally) I highly recommend leaders that can take the beating. Good quality Fluorocarbon will thus be my recommendation. As for poundage 20lb-25lb will be good enough for a start.

Hooks are very important tools and thus I highly recommend investing in high quality hooks. There are many types of hooks but for bottom fishing the main ones are the Chinu and Mutu hooks. Of course you can use other hooks too depending on type of fish as well. If you thought line sizes and reel sizes are dizzying; you should check out hook sizes. They put the dizzy into dizzying with sizes beginning at the smallest 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 5/0, 6/0, 7/0, 8/0, 9/0, 10/0, 11/0 and on and on they grow.

Okay, the numbers can get confusing but worry not. For this setup and for a start just go with size 5 to 4. Not too big and not too small. Good enough for most pond fishing. Note that whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s more important is that they are sharp. An easy way to test them is to run the sharp point on your finger nails and if the point catch on, it is sharp enough. 101

The other thing you will need in a sinker. Sinkers are used to get your baits out to the water and down to the bottom. They too come in a dizzying weights, types, and sizes. Since we are focusing on lake and pond fishing for now, we do not need sinkers that are heavy. For now a size 1 (20g) sinker will do.

Snap Swivels

^ A snap swivel (snap + swivel).

Snaps help you secure changeable items to your rig such as the sinker. Swivels help reduced twisting as the sinker rolls about. They too come in a dizzying array of sizes. My recommendation for now will be to go with small sizes. Sizes 7 to 6 will be good enough.

Understanding Reel Drag 1

mongst all the parts of a fishing reel be it a bait casting reel or a spinning reel, the reel drag plays a very important role. So what is a reel drag? The reel drag only comes into play when a fish takes the bait. It helps you tire out your fish during the battle.

Controlled Pressure

The drag of a reel allows the angler to set a controlled pressure that will help the angler battle the fish and land it hopefully without any fishing tackle breaking. Set the pressure too high and the rod, line, hook, or the reel itself could break. It could very well tire the angler out too. Set the pressure too low and the fish could easily drop the hook and escape to freedom as tension is needed to hold the hook secure in the fishâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lip. Also a drag too low will not tire the fish out and could land the angler with an empty spool of line (taken out by the fish or in another words; spooled). 111

It is important to understand the drag of a reel, set it according to oneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s preference of which should be below any breaking limits of the fishing tackle, and still be able to help the angler control the fish.

How Do Drags Work?

In simple terms the drag works by pushing discs or washers together. The higher the pressure inserted on these washers (being pushed together) the higher the drag pressure. Imagine a spinning wheel spinning. Now imagine using a cloth pushing against that wheel to slow it down and finally stopping it. That is essentially how the drag works.

Types Of Drag Washers

When it comes to drag washers there are generally three types, namely felt, cloth, and carbon. Felt and cloth drag washers are commonly used and have been the main stay for many many years. Then in came the carbon washers that are said to be â&#x20AC;&#x153;more superior.â&#x20AC;? There are two sides to this coin.

Felt And Cloth Washer

^ Felt drag washers.

Felt and cloth drag washers have been used for so many years. Open up old reels and you will most likely find a cloth or a felt washer, or (no washer as they could have disintegrated). These type of washers need to be oiled or greased and thus are also known as wet drag.

The reason why felt and cloth drag washer need to be oiled is that they tend to burnout as the spool turns. The run of a powerful fish spins the spool at very high revolutions and generates a lot of heat. This heat can burn out dry felt or cloth washers. Oiling them also increases their effectiveness.

Carbon Washers

Carbon type washers certainly gives better drag pressure and they can be used either wet or dry. They will not burn out but they will become weak as one uses it (wear and tear). The more the abuse (harder and or faster fighting fish) the shorter the lifespan of these washers. Using them wet by applying special carbon washer grease gives smoother drag start-up but lower top end pressure. Using them dry gives better top end pressure but start-up suffer. To use it wet or dry will thus depend on the angler personal fishing preferences. We will go deeper into this topic of drag looking at the various drag systems used with reels in future issues. Bintulu Fishing Fun II

his clouded grouper is my first saltwater fish on a soft plastic. It fell for the 4â&#x20AC;? Powerbait Powergrub (Milky Salt & Pepper) â&#x20AC;&#x201C; one of my favourite colours for grouper fishing. I picked up a few subtle bites with the Viper Double Dragon, and I hooked this little grouper after letting the soft plastic sit a second longer. Maintaining bottom contact with a 10.5g jighead brought in many bites.

This orange spotted grouper was a first for me as well. I cast the 4â&#x20AC;? Powergrub parallel to the rocky bank I was standing on and the water was just 1ft deep with a receding tide. Suddenly a fish ambushed the grub and I thought I had a mangrove jack on. I cranked it away from the rocks to find out that I was wrong.

This micro Grouper was caught on a 2â&#x20AC;? Berkley Powerbait Powergrub (Christmas Lights). It was a tough day of fishing and I only had a juvenile Trevally chase my soft plastic. I spotted some small groupers amongst rocks and I caught one.

This Queenfish is my personal best saltwater catch and my best catch for this year so far. I used my Deeper Pro+ sonar to mark fish positions. I marked many groups of baitfish with some bigger fish nearby around 8 meters of water. I proceeded to fish a jig in the area and in 5 minutes I was on for a memorable fight.

The combination of the Abu Garcia Revo Rocket, Abu Garcia Veracity Pro 10-20lb and 40lb Spiderwire Ultracast Fluoro Braid handled the powerful Queenfish very well. The acrobatics were amazing. The Revo Rocket helped in making long casts while the Abu Garcia Veracity Pro put serious pressure on the Queenfish.

Acai caught this Orange Spotted Grouper by fishing a crankbait along a rock wall. Orange Spotted Groupers are plentiful and are not shy of taking lures, making them a great game fish. All orange spotted groupers caught were released to grow bigger. They are great for the table, but a size limit and bag limit would be great.

Altaff and his first Orange Spotted grouper on soft plastic. His 4â&#x20AC;? grub enticed this grouper to come out from rocks. The fish was stuck in rocks, but after some effort in getting it out it finally surrendered.

Well that is it for now. I will be doing more saltwater fishing since I am here in Sarawak. Meanwhile happy fishing and donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t forget to catch and release when you can to continue to enjoy the sport and let others have fun as well. Firefly Themed Rooms

One hotel that certainly stands out from the crowd of hotels there is the Sea Lion Hotel. The Sea Lion Hotel is a firefly themed boutique hotel that is tastefully decorated with art pieces, nice furnishing, and little lights on the ceiling of their rooms that mimic fireflies. >The ceiling of the rooms look like fireflies. The colours of the lights changes every few seconds.

Room Configurations

The Sea Lion Hotel has 45 rooms of various configuration from the single rooms to family rooms. The rooms are tastefully furnished with a mixture of modern and artistically classic furniture. More important are the beds that they come with. These beds are comfortable offering a good nightâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s rest. >Well decorated rooms.

Unique Pool

Yes, they have a pool that one can play in. Unlike the usual dugout swimming pools, this pool is built on the ground and doubles as a water feature. It has a tiled seats for one to sit on and just hangout. Children will certainly enjoy playing in the pool.

Facilities

When it comes to facilities and amenities the Sea Lion Hotel comes with the general facilities offered by most hotels such as hot water shower, hair dryer, hot water dispenser (public), free wi-fi, etc. One thing that helps them standout is that they cater to the less-abled (wheelchair), something more hotels should have. >I love this chair. It is comfortable and it looks good. 131

Strategic Location

There are a few must visit spots in Kuala Selangor such as the Melawati Hill where the Melawati fort, Altingsburg Lighthouse, silver leafed monkeys, museum, etc. are. About 5 minutes drive away from this area is one the jetties that takes visitors on eagle feeding trips during the day and firefly trips at night. All these areas are a mere five to ten minutes drive away from the Sea Lion Hotel. >Silver leafed monkey hanging out on a cannon.

The area around the hotel has food outlets and other shops. The famous seafood restaurants are about 10 minutes drive away. If you decide not to drive and do not want to walk much, just beside the hotel is a restaurant. >Fireflies shot with slow shutter speed during the fire fly watching trip.

Personal Experience

I recently visited Kuala Selangor with my family and our friends. We checked into the Sea Lion Hotel which was highly recommended by a friend, and the price suited our budget. Checking in was a breeze and they have lifts that took us to our floor. >Tasteful decor.

When I thought I could get to the room whip out my laptop and start working, I ended up taking a nap. My mistake was lying on the bed (was supposed to be for only 5 minutes) and ended up snoozing for an hour. The bed was really comfortable and the dim firefly effect helped with the shut eye. >Our room had a balcony. 135

While I didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t go into the pool I saw kids enjoying themselves in it with one parent on the deckchair asleep. With the sound of waterfalls from water flowing off the sides into a catchment of which I believe sends it to a filtration system and back into the pool; resting there must be therapeutic. > Kids having fun in the pool. The pool is deeper at the other end.

All in all we certainly enjoyed ourselves and had a good rest. We didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have to rush to the sites as they were nearby. We had easy access to food and we love eating. Because of its location and facilities we had a really relaxing trip. We only wished that we had booked for a night or two longer. >Room prices. 137

ne of the oldest restaurants in Kuala Lumpur is the Coliseum Cafe. It is a restaurant that opened its doors in 1921 during the colonial era and this year it turned 95. It used to serve the British as well as the influential locals back in the day serving colonial Hainanese cuisine. 141

With the original cafe located on the busy Tuanku Abdul Rahman Road, Coliseum Cafe is a crowd puller till this day. Very much of the facade remains the same of which is a good thing. Personally I like it as it is like walking back in time and dining back in the late 70s to the early 80s of which was already historical back then. > The bar, still remains the same as in days of old.

Favourites

Of course we do not go there just for nostalgia sake or to soak in the ambiance of an era gone by. The food there is good especially if you like Hainanese chicken chop, fish and chips, and my personal favourite; sizzling tenderloin steak. The sizzling steak is tender and juicy; bringing me back to the first steak that I ate... of which was here too. Typing this article I cannot help but salivate.
