The interior of the pub and dining areas are highlighted with dark wood beams and brick walls. or 17 years, two Louisiana gentlemen turned Aspen entrepreneurs — Kevin Jones and Earl Rodgers — have been baking and serving pies at New York Pizza. And the continuing popularity of this downtown/ upstairs pizza shop on the Hyman Avenue Mall is the best indicator of Jones’ and Rodgers’ success. Open until 2:30 a.m., New York Pizza is a favorite stop for Aspen night owls and an essential part of the town’s overall dining landscape. And now they’re taking their perfect Greenwich-style pies and red-and-white checkered tablecloths down valley — to Orchard Plaza, next to the City Market in El Jebel. Sitting two doors from El Jebeverage liquor store and three doors from City Market, New York Pizza has one of the most convenient spots in the mid-valley, perfectly situated for customers who want to dine in or take out. The menu is rounded out with fresh salads — their version of the Greek salad is outstanding — and excellent sub sandwiches. The atmosphere in both shops is timeless and unpretentious. In Aspen, four TVs are always tuned to sports, and no one will mind if you actually root for your team of choice. The walls reflect a distinct flavor of local Aspen; checking out the posters and pictures is an excellent way to soak in Aspen history while waiting for your pizza.
