Chiropractor, Dr. Alexia McClerkin is certified in the Graston Technique, Active Release Technique, Kinesio Taping, Dry Needling, Pre and Postnatal Fitness and Yoga. We were able to catch up with her.
What do you specialize in, what are you most known for? I am a Women's Health Advocate promoting healthy pregnancy through physical activity and the use of Chiropractic Care.
I started my Chiropractic Care Practice, The Sports & Wellness Doc, in order to provide alternative pain relief and preventative care to athletes, those suffering from spinal injuries and conditions and pregnant women. While pain medications may be useful, I strive to address the cause instead of the effect of pain. By using manipulation and skillful techniques, I am able to meet clients where they are and help them to avoid the use of drugs.
What sets you apart from others who are doing the same thing? I am a speaker and advocate for women’s health, but I am not limited to research and presentations. I have served as an inspiration to other women by running 5K races during my own pregnancy. With my Chiropractic Practice, I have also proven the necessity of alternative health care for women. My entire life is dedicated to protecting the health of women.
What can we look forward to from you in the upcoming year? I will continue to empower women and advocate for healthy pregnancies throughout 2020. This May, we will host our annual 5K Mamas Fun Run, which boasted 100s of participants in 2019, including pregnant mothers, fathers and children. Also, we will host a National Fit Pregnancy Week from May 3rd- May 10th, 2020, which will various events and workshops to promote healthy lifestyles for expecting mothers.
What has been the hardest thing about being in business? I’m sure that I’ve experienced the same woes of other business owners, but I focus on the many successes I’ve experienced.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I want to be a kind of superhero for women! It is my life’s purpose to use my personal passion and expertise for the benefit of women.
What do you do in your free time? I am a devoted wife and mother. When I am not with my family, I am working toward more training and certifications to benefit the health of women. I have my BS in Kinesiology and Health Promotion from Michigan State, Doctorate in Chiroractic Medicine from Texas Chiropractic College, Bachelor's in Nursing from UT Arlington, pursing Master's of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Family Nurse Practitioner.
How would you describe yourself in one word? Ambitious
What is a philosophy or quote that you live by? Anything worth having is worth fighting for. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.
If you could offer one piece of advice to someone wanting to follow your path, what would it be? Stay focused and understand that it is a process, trust the process. In addition, it is okay to ask for help. One of the biggest things I have learned and am still learning is that I am only one person and can not do everything by myself.
What are the failures that you most cherish? The failures I cherish the most are the financial failures because those have taught me the most. I am more appreciative understanding of the dollar. When I was 19, I got into some BAD real estate investments and they literally bankrupted me. Another failure I cherish is failing classes in chiropractic school; As I reflect on that time and how my practice is now thriv
