THE BANFF CENTRE PRESENTS

FALL EVENTS 2 01 4

AT THE INTERSECTION OF ART+ IDEAS At The Banff Centre, we believe that arts and ideas can effect positive change. Each year we welcome up to 7,000 artists, leaders, and scientists, and more than 80,000 audience members to our campus-in-the-clouds. We draw upon this community of diverse, creative, and passionate people to offer life-changing leadership programs, and proudly share our dedication to learning by hosting more than 500 conferences annually.

While working here, artists, leaders, and conference guests benefit from our focused learning resources and inspirational environment. In turn, revenue raised from donations, ticket sales, conferences, and leadership programming supports the creation of new art and new ideas.

The Banff Centre is grateful to the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta, and the many corporations, foundations, and individuals who generously support our programs and participants. Because of this support, The Banff Centre is able to showcase many of its programs, and participants. The Banff Centre’s supporters are recognized on the annual donor wall in the Eric Harvie Theatre lobby and in an annual published list of supporters. Named funds that were created in order to provide support for faculty, master artists, fellowships, and scholarships are, as applicable to the fall programs, listed in the house. programs. .

PETS+LOVE OLD TROUT PUPPET WORKSHOP PRESENTS

FAMOUS PUPPET DEATH SCENES Saturday, November 22, 7:30 p.m. Sunday November 23, 2 p.m. Margaret Greenham Theatre $25

THE JUDGMENT OF PARIS WRITTEN BY TOM ALLEN Saturday, January 24, 7:30 p.m. Eric Harvie Theatre $25

Through a collection of famous scenes culled from the absolute best puppet shows in history, the Old Trouts promise to cure your fear of death; no more anxiety about difficult choices, no more dreading birthdays, no more desperate pleas for immortality through fame, art, or progeny. Note: this performance is suitable for adults of all ages, and for preteens ages 8 and up.

“ Hilarious, beautiful and macabre… simply remarkable… too intense to allow its audience to catch its breath, too beautiful for them to want to.” - FFWD Magazine, Calgary

Tom Allen - narration & trombone, Kevin Fox – cello & voice, Bryce Kulak – piano & voice, Lori Gemmell – harp, Patricia O’Callaghan – voice As the thunderclouds of the Great War pile up and burst, the musical revolutionary Claude Debussy and his one-time follower Maurice Ravel compete for the love of their proud, fickle, darling, Paris. The Judgment of Paris is a mix of cabaret, history and story-telling with timeless music by Debussy and Ravel, as well as original songs by the performers. It is new and old, heroic and tragic, history and fiction – and may the best composer win.

“ They are an engaging company that is able to address the topics of love, war, history, art and beauty in such a way as to make light of them without being flip. I was entertained and moved as well as educated. - Emily Hanlon - Chamberfest guest blogger

ELEVEN ACCORDS

Friday, December 5, 7:30 p.m. Margaret Greenham Theatre $20 | $18 | $15

Saturday, October 11, 7:30 p.m. Eric Harvie Theatre r | $20

Backbone is an exciting new dance work inspired by the Canadian Rocky Mountains and the nervous systems that connect up to the rocky spine of our Earth Mother (Turtle Island) of the Americas. Conceived and directed by Indigenous Arts director Sandra Laronde with collaborative choreography by Thomas Fonua, Jock Soto, and Jera Wolfe.

Riding a new wave of kinetic curiosity, in partnership with eleven extraordinary dancers, choreographer Christopher House has created a choreographic counterpoint to Music for 18 Musicians, the iconic masterpiece by celebrated American minimalist composer Steve Reich.

“ With Eleven Accords... House and TDT reach an artistic pinnacle that proves why “concert” can be so fitting a designation for a dance performance.” - Ben Portis, The Dance Current

THE FINE PRINT Performances and artists are subject to change without notice. Tickets are nonrefundable. Where permitted, Banff Centre tickets may be exchanged within the same series up to 24 hours prior to the performance; fees may apply. Regardless of age, all audience members must have a ticket. We strongly advise that infants younger than one not attend performances for the enjoyment of the rest of the audience, and we generally recommend that audience members be four years of age or older in order for everyone to fully enjoy the performance. Events in The Club (a licensed venue) are restricted to ages 14 and over. Please contact the Box Office for specific age and seating recommendations. Any person who is disruptive during a performance may be asked to leave - refunds will not be made upon this, nor upon the basis of content.
