The American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) is a North Carolina based national certification agency originally specializing in phlebotomy certifications and has over the years developed many certification examinations for many of the medical field’s most desired certifications. The Patient Care Technician examination is a multidiscipline certification which can be achieved by passing the examination and meeting several stringent prerequisites. SECESSIONVILLE- Living History and Battle Reenactment

November 11 - 13, 2011

The Confederate Heritage Trust would like to thank all of people who attended or participated in the Living History and Battle of Secessionville Reenactment. If you missed the 2010 re-enactment, please make plans to attend the 2011 event. One hundred forty-nine years ago, June 14, 1862, a small group of Confederates soldiers from the 1st SC Artillery had just completed a portion of the earthwork embankments of Tower Battery located on James Island. The battery came under assault in a pre-dawn attack from an invading Federal force. The ensuing battle proved disastrous for the invading Federals. Outmanned 3 to 1, the Confederate troops stood their ground and won a decisive victory that would signify Charleston’s strong defenses against the invading Federal forces. On November 11 - 13, 2011, history will repeat itself in the form of living history. Step back into time as men, women and children present what life may have been like during the Antebellum era. Become a part of that era with interactive historical displays. Come relive the actions of the men who fought with honor and courage as the Confederate Heritage Trust in association with Boone Hall Plantation bring you the 21st Annual Re-enactment of the Battle of Secessionville.

The Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for Charleston natives and visitors alike. The 29th largest 5K in the United States begins at 9 A.M. in Marion Square in historic downtown Charleston and weaves a scenic course down Meeting Street, around the Historic Battery, up King Street returning to Marion Square. Place pizza on a cookie sheet or directly on oven rack, if preferred. Bake for 12 minutes or until crust is golden and cheese is melted. If desired, drizzle a little olive oil over pizza and sprinkle with additional chopped sage.

When Phil Lanz retired from the financial industry and moved his family from New York to the Charleston, SC area, he didn’t know that he would soon be changing the lives of many people. What Phil has created at 6877 Dorchester Road in North Charleston goes by many names, corner store, convenience store, but he prefers the term neighborhood store or the stores name: $1 Store & More. His store is often called a “mini-Walmart” without all the walking, because of the wide range of products he sells that are organized in a neat, orderly fashion within his 3000 sf store. His customers have the variety of Walmart in a compact size , and in many cases with lower prices. The success of Phil’s store is not just about location, location, location, but it helps. Within a one mile radius is a population of 2,263 people 18 to 65 years in age, with a household income that ranges from less than $25,000 to $75,000, and they all shop at his store.
