Remove any stray hairs that grow in-between, underneath or above your ideal brow shape. Plucking can feel uncomfortable at first so I recommend plucking hairs after a warm bath or shower to open the hair follicles so hairs slip out more easily.
•
Opt for slanted tweezers. They grab tiny hairs quickly and won’t pinch your skin. I highly recommend tweezers from The Vintage Cosmetic Company - (RRP £8.00) available from thevintagecosmeticcompany. co.uk. I personally love the printed design, they are made from stainless steel and are easy to grip.
•
To avoid over plucking always remove hairs in good lighting, natural daylight is best, magnifying mirrors

ENTERTAINMENT Your local restaurant probably know a good Sinatra style singer or Elvis impersonator that they can call on for an entertainment spot later in the evening, and their in-house music is not going to spoil conversation for relatives that don’t often get the chance to meet up and chat.
THE CAKE Look in your local free magazine for an independent cake maker and meet up to look through their pictures. You may find the price is half that of the wedding shops, and just as good.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS This could be the only expense that can’t be cut back, as it is too important to rely on uncle Bob snapping with his camera. But you may have a local camera club nearby, so go along and see if the club has a budding professional that wants to do a great wedding for his portfolio.
FINISHING TOUCHES That just leaves you to take in some balloons or handmade table decorations to the restaurant, and any table gifts you want to give. Don’t forget a visitor’s book that can be passed around for everyone to sign and write a special message on the day for the happy couple. A great keepsake and an easy way to make sure that you have remembered all the thank you letters afterwards! You never know, you might really enjoy arranging it all for yourself, but if you get stuck, the expert wedding planners are always there to help with anything you can’t find…

you unable to get a photo of you and your fiancĂŠ when you got engaged? Perhaps you have recently got married, you've received your professional wedding photographs and are disappointed to find that you forgot to ask the photographer to capture that shot you really wanted. Whatever the reason, don't panic! A bespoke illustration by Hannah Weeks, could be the answer. Hannah works closely with all of her customers to come up with an illustration that reflects their personalities and is representative of their special day, proposal or relationship. An Illustrated wedding portrait is the perfect way to capture an individual or a group of people in a way that no photo could ever achieve.
THE SKY REALLY IS THE LIMIT! If you want to include your beloved pets that couldn't be with you on your wedding day, that's fine. Hannah will draw them. Maybe there is a significant song lyric that means something special to you both? Hannah can use this as the inspiration for your

portrait. You are limited only by your imagination! Even if you only have the vaguest of ideas, Hannah can help. She will include any details you tell her and bring any thoughts you have to life; creating a meaningful illustration you can cherish forever. To create your artwork, Hannah requires photos and descriptions of what you would like incorporating into your design. So, if you'd like an illustration drawn in advance of the wedding day, this can be done - simply send her some images of everyone to be included, any specific clothing (e.g. the wedding dress), the venue and any additional details. She will compile all the different elements to realise your wedding day before it's actually happened. Imagine waking up to find a wedding portrait that your fiancÊ has secretively commissioned as a gift to give you on your wedding day. How would your other half react if they received a one-of-a-kind drawing from you? I bet they wouldn't be expecting it! Let's also not forget, that this would make the ULTIMATE first wedding anniversary gift of paper. Whether you've been invited to your best friend's wedding and you are stuck for what to give, or you’re searching for a wholly unique present to give to your future husband or wife, you can be sure that a bespoke illustration will be something to treasure for always.

DOREEN Born in 1964 Doreen is a well travelled lady. She was manufactured in Germany and immediately shipped to Michigan USA where she spent over 40 years enjoying the sunshine. Unlike some of her peers, this beautiful split screen camper van has kept the best of her original features and her unusual exterior colourway makes her stand out from the crowd. She loves nothing more than dressing up for your special occasion with ribbons and bows and/or flowers, but you can specify. The leather interior was bespokely made to match her body; she sports an iPod dock and comes with a bottle of champagne for the happy couple. MELANIE ADAMS, EVENTS MANAGER AT THE ORANGE TREE GROUP SHARES HER TOP TIPS TO CREATE YOUR BESPOKE WEDDING
ORANGE TREE WEDDINGS
I
f there is one tip I would give as a wedding planner, it would be this: make every part of your day reflect you as a couple. The menu should feature your favourite food, guests should enjoy a drinks reception reflecting your preferred tipple and the styling and atmosphere should shout about your personalities. At Orange tree weddings we do just this. For outdoorsy couples we have created packages using venues with beautiful gardens, a picnic basket wedding breakfast and gin tea cocktails served in vintage china. Guests have spent the afternoon lounging on pretty picnic rugs and playing lawn games before dancing the night away and
| 40 |
highlighting local luxury
90698_OrangeTreeWeddings_WithAD.indd 40
enjoying an evening bbq. For couples who live for festivals, we’ve perfected our festival vibes with Indian daybeds, tipi tents and bold colourful drapes. We stock our bar with chilled draught beers and ciders and our famous smokehouse street food menu suits the mood perfectly. One of my favourite weddings was for an Autumn loving couple. They chose a beautiful, cosy village hall which we dressed with reds, oranges and golds. Their three course menu featured a selection of pies, and we served mulled cider and plenty of red wine. The evening had a feel of a traditional barn dance, just wonderful. We are now in our fourth year at Orange tree weddings and have created
over 30 bespoke weddings using over 15 different halls, barns and spaces across the East Midlands. I myself have a degree in Management Studies and 10 years Management experience for the Orange tree Group and Jules, our Assistant Event Organiser and Head Stylist, has worked in fashion design all over the world. We saw a gap in the market for a company that can provide a complete wedding package consisting of the catering, bar, staffing, styling and planning in any blank canvas venue – and now here we are! I’ll finish with the words of one of our latest newlyweds, Gemma Green, who said that we ‘far surpassed [her] our expectations to make a truly memorable day.’

fter years of pared-back austerity, consumers are once again beginning to embrace the idea of luxury. Hints of the glamour and indulgence of five-star hotels are creeping back into Britain’s homes. From flashes of gold and brass to deep, rich red and turquoise tones, the boutique hotel trend shows the desire of Britons to break out of their post-
recession mindset. Cocktail cabinets, dressing tables and chaise longues can happily sit alongside contemporary pieces whilst hinting at a bygone age of opulence and indulgence.

Beautiful Kitchens – Interiors – Inspiration
Make your eyes happy with what they see. Promise to make the feel of a place you love become the feel of your place, your home. Make your home the place you can’t wait to get back to at the end of the day. Make the place you sit and think, a place that makes you feel comforted and calm and happy inside. Make your mornings and the place where you make your first cup of tea an uplifting and special place, somewhere that helps you begin your day with clarity and inspiration. Make the place where you eat a bowl of cereal standing up in front of your kitchen window, a place that gives you a contented kind of feeling and the knowing that you have somewhere special as your home. Make the table where you have food with people you love an experience that you do over and over again because it always turns out to be the loveliest time, spent just being with comfortable people. Make the chores of your day as easy as they can be, so you don’t mind doing them and neither does anyone else. Make them uncomplicated and simple and begin to enjoy them because they are to be done anyway. Every part of your home says something about you and every part of your home has an effect on how you live every day and how you feel about yourself.

THERE ARE A FEW SEASONAL JOBS TO BE DONE AROUND THE POND TO START TO PREPARE IT FOR THE EVENTUAL ONSET OF WINTER. PLANTS, FISH AND EQUIPMENT ALL HAVE THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR AND WITH BRITISH WEATHER BEING SO UNPREDICTABLE MICHAEL WHEAT, LOCAL POND AND GARDENING EXPERT SHARES HIS TOP TIPS, SO THAT AN UNEXPECTED COLD SNAP DOESN’T CATCH YOU OUT
AUTUMN
Pond Care T
he weather has been, well, a little up and down this year. You could possibly call it a typical ‘English summer’- two weeks of sun!
Sadly this means that the autumn time is coming and
we need to think about caring for specific areas of the garden. In particular, my favourite subject… the pond. The first thing I recommend, is covering it with a net during the autumn. The more leaves you can keep out, the better state the pond will be left in for the winter.
FEEDING THE FISH Start to feed your fish less and feed them on wheat germ, when the colder nights draw in, this food will settle in the fishes stomachs better. This prevents any uneaten (regular) food from rotting away and causing a problem.
THE FILTER Make sure the filter gets a good clean out too, as winter will bring different challenges for your filter. My advice is to keep the pump running, modern pumps can handle any issues that the UK cold weather might bring, with no problems. Your fish will become less active, so try not to scare them and poke at them with nets! Make sure they have a little cover, as lilies will start to die back.
SURROUNDING AREAS Cut back plants which have finished for the season to prepare them for the next and as the colder weather sets in, it’s a good idea to store away any pond lights, so they don’t get damaged. Hopefully we can have a nice warm autumn to end the year! Michael Wheat Pond & Garden Design, 4 Gladstone Street, Fleckney, Leicester, LE8 8AG, T: 0116 240 3735 I www.michaelwheat.co.uk

SCHOOLS
AN EXTRAORDINARY YEAR
AT
R
Ratcliffe
atcliffe College has had an extraordinary year, a
year that has been uniquely different to previous years in several aspects.
A spectacular, new £4.5 million Preparatory School building was opened last September that includes purpose-built classrooms for music, art and design, food technology and science, an ICT suite and Library, and which rightly won a prestigious Charnwood Architectural Design of the Year Award. It was, of course, a great honour to welcome the Duke of Gloucester for the Grand Opening just before Easter, an occasion which tied in so well with the burial on that same day of his predecessor, King Richard III. At the beginning of March, the Leicestershire school, a boarding and day school for children aged 3-18, was visited by a team of inspectors from the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI). For the first time in Ratcliffe College’s history, the School has been rated as excellent across all nine categories. “The quality of academic and other achievements is excellent. Pupils develop excellent knowledge, skills and understanding. The curriculum is appropriate at all stages and offers flexibility which meets the needs of pupils in the school,” according to inspectors. They found that “The pupils’ social awareness is outstanding; their very strong affection for their school community is profound and was very strongly evident in the pupils’ interviews. For example, they were drawn into the School as it felt like a family.” Over the year, the School enrolled the largest intake of students that the school has ever had, yet still maintaining small class sizes. There are waiting lists in most Year groups, such is the success that Ratcliffe is seeing, so early registration is strongly advised to avoid disappointment. Ratcliffe College is an independent school for girls and boys aged 3-18, situated just north of Leicester on the A46. The school currently has over 800 pupils, of whom over 100 are boarders. A Catholic school that accepts children from all faiths within a diverse community, Ratcliffe College’s next Open Morning will be on Saturday 10th October, 9.30am – 12 noon, to which everyone is welcome.

blonde and beautiful and that particular song in the show has to be my favourite song. It shows the full range of my voice. All the songs for Maybelle are great, including the ballad, and this character is one I can really get my teeth into.” What is your message to your audience at Curve Leicester, and especially to women who want to excel at their chosen profession? “Well this show is all about empowering women to live out their dreams. My message is to tell all of them to fight for what they believe in, stick to your guns, don’t stop trying and keep believing in yourself.” Not only is Motormouth Maybelle inspiring the women in Hairspray to live out their dreams, Brenda Edwards herself is also inspiring the women of Leicester to reach for the stars!.....

The title role of Snow White will be played Sarah Accomando who brings a wealth of theatre and panto experience including a previous East Midlands’ appearance starring as Alice in Dick Whittington at Derby Assembly Rooms. Commenting on her casting, Sarah said; "I am thrilled to be spending this Christmas in Leicester and am very excited to be playing the part of one of my all-time favourite princesses, Snow White." The Prince will be played by Karl Loxley, star of the 2015 series of The Voice and in an extra treat for children, the show also has a special guest appearance by CBeebies’ megastar Justin Fletcher as the Magic Mirror, where he will appear as a pre-recorded video.* Snow White’s band of loyal helpers will be played by a team of 22 highly-talented local young people who were cast following open auditions which were held at the end of June. Antony Flint, general manager at De Montfort Hall commented; “This cast has all of the elements you want for a great panto performance; Sherrie and Jon’s experience and star quality will shine though, Martin is a much loved and experienced Leicester voice and Sarah and Karl as Snow White and her Prince will bring a wealth of acting and singing talent to the De Montfort Hall stage.” Snow White will be directed by Michael Strassen, a hugely sought after musical theatre director who’s venues have included The Theatre Royal, Haymarket; The Royal Festival Hall; The Hippodrome, London; C Venues, Edinburgh; and Royce Hall, Los Angeles.
