Botox & Filler
You have heard about it and most likely seen it all over social media, but is it right for you? We chatted with Jade Wright a Registered Nurse at Caci to answer some of our Appearance Medicine & Dermal Filler questions.
First of all, what is a wrinkle?

When we smile or frown wrinkles appear around our eyes, in between our eyebrows, and in our forehead. These lines appear because our muscles are contracting to create different facial expressions, this is called a dynamic line. As time goes on, these expression lines begin to deepen and become permanent, even when the face is at rest. This is called a static line.
Lines and wrinkles aren’t the only signs of ageing; the curves and contours of the face can also change as volume is lost. Areas that tend to loose volume are the cheeks, lips, temples and jawline.
What are the benefits of injectable treatments like Botox and Dermal Filler?
Botox treatments work by relaxing facial muscles that cause wrinkles and lines when you smile or frown, creating a refreshed look whilst preventing lines deepening.
Dermal Filler works differently. It works by replacing lost volume, enhancing lips, enhancing facial contour, and softening medium to deep wrinkles.
How does Botox and Dermal Filler work?
Botox temporarily reduces the action of the muscles treated, preventing them from moving, resulting in softer lines and wrinkles. Dermal Filler is a smooth, injectable gel made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. The gel can improve skin volume and hydration. At Caci, we use a Dermal Filler product called Juvederm.
How long do the results last?
Botox results are seen within 7-14 days following treatment. Results can last up to 3-4 months. It is recommended to be regular with treatments to prevent dynamic lines developing into static lines. If the lines are static when commencing Botox, regular treatment will help to soften these lines gradually.
Dermal Filler results can be instant. Most people will find that it can last from 12-24 months, this will depend on product, area, and each person’s individual metabolism.
What does the treatment involve?
Cosmetic injection treatments are quick; a small amount of product is injected into selected muscles with a very fine needle. Pain is minimal and you can go about your normal day. After the treatment you may experience slight redness in the treated area, this usually resolves in 15-30 minutes.
Dermal Fillers are also injected. One type of Dermal Filler called Juvederm contains an anesthetic called Lidocaine to help reduce discomfort during injection. Treatments usually take between 15 to 30 minutes. After the treatment you may experience swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness.
How much does it cost?
Pricing will vary for each individual as the price will depend on how many areas are being treated. To give a rough idea, treatments at Caci can be provided as a one off service or can be part of a personalised treatment plan which allows the cost of treatment to be spread over the year – just like a gym membership. Plan prices can start from around $30 a week. The best option would be to have a complimentary consultation to discuss your concerns so the treatment provider can give you an exact quote.
Are these treatments safe?
At Caci, only trained Registered Nurses treat with Botox and Juvederm. Prior to treatment, a full medical history will be taken to ensure the client is suitable for treatment. From there you will have the opportunity to discuss the treatment in full before you begin. As Juvederm and Botox are medications, side effects can occur and will be discussed thoroughly prior to treatment.
What should people consider before getting treatments like these?
Do your research, go to a reputable clinic and make sure you are 110% sure you want the treatment before going ahead with it.
