LETTER FROM THE EDITOR HEY BROOKLYN TECH KEY CLUB, HOW DO YOU FEEL? Thank you to everyone who attended our annual Induction ceremony! An even bigger thank you goes out to all the members, officers, and chaperones who made the night a success. Congratulations to our newly appointed executive cabinet for the 2012-2013 service year! Let us work together to make our service year even better than the last. If you missed out on this year’s ceremony, you can turn to pages 8-17 to check out the memorable night. Even though school is out, that doesn’t mean Key Club is done for the year! Be on the look out for summer events. We have lots of exciting and engaging projects coming up, such as AAYC 13th Annual Summer Field Day for Kids and preparing meals for the sick. If you are not getting emails, make sure to contact our webmaster Tina at Tina@thetechkey.com! Don’t think you earned enough points from going to events? No problem. Just supplement that by taking pictures and writing articles! I can’t create newsletters without your contribution. Tell me about what inspired you, your new experiences...anything and everything! Also, bring your camera to events. Take pictures with your friends, of other groups of Key Clubbers, and of people in action! However, please make sure that the pictures you send are usable. What kind of pictures are acceptable? The kind where faces are clearly shown and ones that are not blurry! Look through past newsletters for examples. You can e-mail me anytime at Sharon@thetechkey.com and send photographs to image@thetechkey.com. Thank you for reading! Yours in the spirit of service, Sharon Cai Bulletin Editor 2012-2013

RELAY FOR LIFE JUNE 9, 2012
On the June 9th, 2012, eight of our Key club members came out to the edge of the Brooklyn to honor the cancer survivors. The cancer survivors were wearing purple shirts, symbolizing the work of resiliency against the infamous cancer. Seeing different age groups wearing purple shirts, ranging from just born babies to Vietnam War veterans, I noticed how ruthless cancer can be. As I skimmed through the crowd, I suddenly felt a pang of sorrow for my grandfather. He is also a cancer survivor, a colon cancer survivor to be exact, and I imagined him wearing the purple shirt along with the rest of the crew. Even though it was mixture of sad and happy feelings for me, I would love to bring the rest of my Key Club members to the future Relay For Life events. There were tons of activities for them that there's no way the Key Clubbers will not enjoy themselves here. — President Han-Chang Kim

INDUCTION
Held at J. King Seafood Palace, the 2012 Induction ceremony saw over 120 Key Clubbers in attendance. The executive board 2011-2012 presented members with awards and gave farewell speeches. The executive board 2012-2013 was officially inducted and after a month, the new executive cabinet was announced. A big shout-out goes to immediate-past induction committee head Jennifer and our immediate-past vice president Sandy for planning the memorable night. Also, kudos to our immediate-past webmaster Cora and immediate-past advocacy committee head Kelly for planning and hosting the entertainment bits of the night. Party-goers were engaged in a game of unscrambling a word, hot potato with soda bottles, musical chairs, human musical chairs, and pop-the-balloon. It was a truly memorable night.

I had lots more fun at this year’s Induction than I expected. Everyone was smiling and laughing during the games we played. There was a lot of great food; my table even cleared all the plates. Throughout the whole night I was anticipating the announcing of the executive cabinet. I was very surprised to hear my name called. I'm really looking forward to the next service year. We're all going to miss this year's executive board from all the committee heads to our president Jim. I wish all the seniors best of luck in college and I hope to see them again next year’s Induction. — Sundy He, Communications Committee Head 2012-2013
This was my first induction, so I didn't know what to expect. Since Key Club events are usually awesome, I thought Induction would be awesome too (and it was)! What surprised me were all the awards that were given out. I was also surprised that I was able to get two awards, since I am only a freshman. I was amazed by all the games that Cora and Kelly hosted. They were very funny, haha! For next year's induction, I'd like something similar to this year’s. I had a lot of fun spending time with my friends and watching the games being played. — Sandy Mui

What an amazin
g turn-out!! THE BEAVER TREE 17
FAREWELL FROM IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT To my beloved Key Clubbers, If you were at the Induction Ceremony, you may have heard me say that New York City is not a Utopia. But the world I’m living surely feels like one. Key Club has given me so many twists and turns in my life—it’s a miracle that I’m still sane—At least, I think I’m sane! Key Club has given me a chance to not only serve the community, but also myself: opening myself up to others, listening to new ideas, teamwork, responsibility, friendship, love and these qualities will definitely help me succeed in life. It is truly inspiring to do something, and be a part of something greater than myself, and you guys have given me the opportunity to do so. Leading a club of over 400 members is something the executive board does not get enough recognition for. We don’t get a certificate of achievement from the principal or a congratulatory handshake from the International Key Club board, but for me, it is the smiles, laughs and enthusiasm from the members that keep me going day after day. I love when members come up to me and say “That was fun!” or “I loved it!” after a service project or Key Club event. It gives me motivation to work harder for you guys—for Key Club—because I do love all of you. And with that said, I would like to encourage you to do something you love—like I did. Join the Origami Club. Play J.V. Basketball. I do encourage you to continue on the Key Club path, whether it’s your first year or your third. I have seen so many of you grow into aspiring young adults – future leaders of America. If you fully immerse yourself into Key Club, you will get something more than credits and hours out of it—trust me. You’ll find your true passions, meet some amazing people, and do the beaver call along the way. You’ll clean-up a park or two, fundraise for charity, and get lost on the Subway once or twice. You’ll grab free goodies for volunteers, learn life-long lessons, and find people that you genuinely love. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your President for the 20112012 service year. It was truly an honor. Best of luck and much success to all of you in your future endeavors. Make me proud, Key Clubbers! GREETINGS FROM YOUR NEW PRESIDENT
To all Key Clubbers, My name is Han-Chang “HC” Kim and I will serve as your next Brooklyn Tech Key Club president. As our immediate past president, Jim Chan, stated at our Induction ceremony, maintaining an enormous club like ours takes time, effort, and dedication. The estimated executive board to member ratio is six to four hundred! Realistically speaking? It’s going to be very hard to reach out to each and one of you guys. However, we have innovated and increased the number of committees from seven to ten, and have chosen twelve qualified candidates to serve on the executive cabinet as our new Key Club committee heads. These committee heads will be communicating with you, leading you, and helping you for the next service year. On the other hand, it is also your responsibility to reach out to us. We are limited in numbers and hands. By emailing us and talking to us in person, you will definitely be able to develop a stronger bond between you and the rest of the board & cabinet. I am not going to make empty promises. I am not going to say things won’t be hard. All I am going to ask of you guys is to bear with me and stay with me. Clean-ups, walks, and many more events like this will take a lot of your time and effort. However, just remember the things you do can bring as simple as a smile to the ones in need. Everything you do will make minor to major changes to the recipients. Just remember that that’s what we are here for. Live and treasure our motto: Caring-Our Way of Life. Let us have an amazing year. I have a great feeling about this. I can’t wait! Yours in Service, Han-Chang Kim Key Club President 2012-2013 Key Club Communications Committee Head 2010-2011 Key Club Group Leader 2009-2010 Brooklyn Technical High School ‘13
