Dear Readers
A
s we contemplate another new year and its offerings of many days of living, laughing and loving let us not forget the one who knows are days, the one who has our hairs numbered on our head the true and living God. Our God has set Jesus Christ at his right hand for all power has been given to this begotten Son. As children of the most God he has set his Son as the one and only way to truly live. Jesus says “I am the way” and “I come that you might have life and that more abundantly.” Are you ready to really thrive and make concrete resolutions? Our writers are committed to you… They bring a word of encouragement so that you will have wisdom in the overflow in 2017. Why live beneath what God has planned for you? Take your yearly commitments to the Lord. Bring them before him every day and see how he will grant you wisdom to complete everything he has purposed in your life. So there will be no more resolutions without Jesus’ help – no more denying yourself the best in life. Eating the rights foods and exercising the natural body to live comfortably as you age in grace. No more lying to yourself that you can do it when you know you need the extra help. What you need to start this year off right is all in this issue. We welcome a new section on finances. For what would life be without money and the direction on how to use it? We would love to hear from you – comments, concerns or prayers? In His Service,

Live, Love & Laugh
L
ive, Love & Laugh is not only a catchy phrase that popularly adorn apparel and wall posters but, I have personally made them my goals for 2017. These goals are based on God’s desire for my life, as his daughter, and are based on biblical promises that, if applied, will allow us to live a victorious life.
live
L
ife is something that seems automatic, if you are occupying earth space and breathing. However, after reflecting on my life, and observing the life of others, I have noticed that we can have life, but not be living. John 10:10 tells us that Jesus not only came so that we can have life, but have it more abundantly. The adjective “abundant” is what propels us from just having life to living. In the same text of John 10, we are also reminded that there is an enemy that desires for us not to live, and his goal is to kill, steal, and destroy anything that possesses life. So, as a goal to live, I plan to:
Travel to new places and explore the fullness of the earth God has created. Expand my knowledge about God and his word by taking a class or reading a book about God’s plan for my life and how to walk in that plan. Pray more, not only to acquire things, but to position myself in the presence of God, the one who gives life. God desires for me to have abundant life, so He is the one I need to consult about how to experience the life He has planned for me. Prayer puts us in the presence of God so that we can hear from him.
8
love M
y goal to love is not only so that I can be a giver, or a recipient, of love, but so that the power of love can be evident in my relationships. In 1 John 4:7 the Bible commands us to love one another because love comes from God. Knowing that our God is intentional, I think it is safe to say that He doesn’t give us love just so we can make googly eyes with our significant other, but love serves a purpose in our relationships. God is a great God, and he desires to do great things through us, which can be accomplished through love. 1 John 4:18 says that perfect love casts out fear, and when we are free from fear, we can accomplish some great things; Colossians 3:14 tells us that love binds us together in unity, and when we can come together on one accord, we can

accomplish great things; and Songs of Songs 8:4 tells us that love blazes like a fire, and when we are set ablaze in our passion, we can do some great things. Therefore, my goal to love, is so that I, and those in relationship with me, can accomplish great things, during our time on earth. So, for my goal to love, I plan to:
Communicate this love to those I am in relationship with, so that they can know they have my support in their desire to do great things. Be patient with those I am in relationship with, understanding that mistakes can be an essential tool in helping us achieve great things. Commit to loving God’s way. God blesses us when we are obedient.
Laugh L
astly, my goal to laugh is a commitment to maintain my joy. Previously we talked about the enemy’s desire to kill, steal, and destroy the people and things of God, and one of those things is our joy. It is easy to get distracted by the disappointments of life and develop of demeanor of sorrow, but Romans 14:17 let us know that joy is a benefit of being in the kingdom of God. The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10), and it is joy that helps us to endure the trials of life, maintaining our hope in the Lord. Laughter is an evidence of joy, so I am going to laugh more. According to Job 8:21 the Lord will fill our mouth with laughter and our lips with shouting. So, for my goal to laugh, I plan to: Surround myself with joyous people. Romans 12:15 tells us to rejoice with those who rejoice. Laugh at my mistakes. Life is too short to upset every time a mistake is made. If we laugh instead, we will free ourselves from the pressure of being perfect, understanding that the mistakes help us grow. Reflect on the blessings of God. Psalm 126:2 says, “Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” Just like the children of Israel, the Lord has done great things for me, and reflecting on those blessings should give you joy. FITtoLIVE!
I
t’s here! Another New Year! Will it be more unfinished resolutions, more fasts, more broken promises? Not for me. I want to live! And not just live but really live! I want to be wholesome in every way possible. I want to live out and be in total agreement with the prayer found in the first chapter of the third book of John. It’s a short prayer full of good wishes for a friend. Not only do I want this for myself but for you too my friend. Here is what the writer, a man of God says: “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” As you can see, this isn’t a long prayer request filled with the “churchy” language and long words that make a person seem to be totally righteous. It’s a simple heartfelt request for a friend to do well - inside and out.
One of the definitions for the word fit means to be in agreement and in harmony with. In other words, it matches. I want to enjoy good health. I want it to be well with my soul. That is mentally and emotionally sound. To live good, I just believe God wants me to make the right choices and do the things that will line up with His truth! The bible declares that “as a man thinks, so he is”. That is true. To be fit emotionally and mentally
10
we must do well in our thinking. We must think about what we are thinking about. Think on good things so good things can result. Shut down and shut out negativity and bitterness, or anything that will weigh us down. I’m not saying negative thoughts won’t come. I’m not saying bad feelings don’t come along. But, the wellness is in what we do with them. It’s time to delete the garbage and old files that keep coming up to remind of us “that thing or those things” that keep us in unhealthy places. Garbage in, garbage out. Peace in, peace out. The latter is healthy. It’s time to live well. It’s time to laugh. The book of Proverbs say that laughter does good like a medicine. Some things need the medicine of laughter. To lighten your load and brighten your days… the fix is just that simple- laugh! Be merry again! Take the time to laugh and shake your head in amusement. Start looking at things from a more positive perspective. Free yourself up and just laugh at some of the crazy stuff that has happened. Please don’t take offense to this. Some things that happen are just outlandishly silly.

Another thing. Think about the goodness of the Lord and how He is on your side. I, like the psalmist David in Psalms 27:13 say, that I would have fainted had I not seen the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Yes, in the year of 2016 there were challenges that were tough for me…but God. I laugh because I still rise! I laugh because God has kept me! I laugh because I see the goodness of the Lord. I have not fainted. I am not down and out. So, I will live and I will laugh! This is a part of being FIT. Not only will I will live and laugh, but I will also love! When I say love, I really mean love. Not just love my family and friends. It’s time to take it to a whole new level. How about love my enemies? I want to be really line up
and agree with the Word of God. He said to love and pray for your enemies. I thought about this. Do you know that you need your enemies’ presence? What? Yes! How many times have I prayed and asked the Lord to make so and so go away and leave me alone. Then He reminds me, that He has promised to prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies (Psalms 23). Yes, as God does great things for you (and Me), He doesn’t just do it where no one can see it. He will do it for you in the open so your naysayers can watch Him work! Don’t you know God will give you the last laugh? So, pray that your enemies will turn to the Lord because of seeing the favor of God being poured out and showered down in your life! That’s love.
Last but not least. Remember your physical health. And guess what? You are alive and reading this article. Thank God! Not everyone made it to the year of 2017. Take good care of yourself. Go and get your yearly checkup. Follow the advice of your doctor; get your exercise in. For 2017, I encourage you to live, laugh and love your life! It’s time to truly be fit. Line up with the Word and promises of God. Be FIT and LIVE!

H
appy New Year!
I am sure you are making health related New Year’s resolutions, whether it is losing weight, eating healthy, or being physically active. One resolution you should add to that list is enjoying LAUGTHER! There are many health and emotional benefits to laughter that you may have never known. You know the saying “laughter is good for the soul” well it is also good for your health. A hearty laugh not only makes you feel good mentally and emotionally, it causes physiological changes in your
12
body. Laughter increases your air intake which stimulates your organs, such as the heart, lungs, and muscles. In addition, you burn a few calories from the expanding and contracting of the diaphragm and abdominal muscles, along with shoulder movement. The brain increases the production of endorphins during laughter. Endorphins are chemicals released by the brain to inhibit the transmission of pain signals (a natural painkiller) and they can also create the feeling of euphoria, especially after a vigorous aerobic workout. Previous studies have observed that people who attended a comedy show displayed an increased resistance to pain. Stress causes the body to release chemicals and hormones that can have

a negative effect on your health if they are present long term. Chronic stress can trigger numerous ailments including depression, high blood pressure, heart attack, headaches, heartburn, muscle aches, insomnia, infertility, just to name a few. Laughter counteracts the stress response by increasing circulation, relieving tension which aids muscle relaxation, and improves mood that can lessen the effects of depression and anxiety. In the short term stress activates the immune system, however in the long term stress inhibits the immune response. Laughter on the other hand offsets the effects of stress and gives the immune system a boost. As stated before laughter produces endorphins, which also influences several

immune functions including white blood cell proliferation and antibody synthesis. These white blood cells and antibodies identify and destroy pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses. This year make it a point to laugh whether it is watching a funny movie, going to a comedy club, spending time with family and friends who make you feel happy or make you laugh, even finding some humor during stressful times which may help you cope. Proverbs 17:22 states “A merry heart doeth good medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. So let 2017 be a year of great cheer, happiness, and laughter.

Had a Rough Day?
h
ad a Rough Day? Got a problem? Well you are not alone. We all go through different problems, and circumstances, that we sometimes refer to as storms. These storms can erupt at work, home, school, and even with friends. There is a saying that says either you are going into a storm, in a storm, or coming out of a storm. Ummm Where are you right now? No matter where you are be encouraged because the Lord desires that you give Him your problems and in exchange He will give you rest. This is what will happen if you give Him the problem/s. He will walk along side of you and handle the situation. You will have a peace and will not feel the pressure of the problem weighing you down or the stress causing your blood pressure to rise. It will be like He is carrying most of the weight of the situation because it will seem lighter. Similar to when a farmer is plowing they may use two oxen yoked
14
together. This yoke enables them to pull together on a load working in pairs making the load easier to pull. Often times our burdens feel as though there are huge boulders on our back. Not to mention that we may also be carrying someone else’s burden. But, the Lord wants to be yoked to you. Yes! To you. He is willing to carry the load for you, as you walk together, in order for you to experience peace and rest for your soul. As you walk together He will teach you how to handle the storm but you must be yoked to Him. Then you can Live, Love and Laugh! Matthew 11:28-30 NLT 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and
gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Right now give the Lord one of your problems. Say to Him: Lord I am coming to you. I am weary and I have this situation/ problem (say whatever it is). But your word Lord says you will give me rest. I am willing Lord to take your yoke and learn from you. I am ready to have rest for my soul and to experience the lightness of your burdens. In Jesus Name Amen

Saving for a “Rainy Day” Money Talk with Wil you will learn, the more money in your account……..the better you feel when you walk into the bank. Also, the nicer the bank employees are when they see your face. et’s not mince words….. most Americans think saving money is a foreign word. Most Americans go to their bank to merely cash their check and spend just about every dime until the next (employment or unemployment) check is in their possession.
L
For 2017, I would ask that you change some habits that you have probably perfected since you were first given birthday money or allowance as a child………which was to spend every dime given to you. On average, for every dollar that an American earns, he or she will spend all but a nickel (5.8 cents). We aren’t even in the top 10 countries for savings. Ireland is at the top. The Irish save a whopping 19 cents of every dollar they earn. Let’s cut to the chase and make this real. PRACTICE SPENDING LESS THAN YOU EARN SO THAT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT GROWS! I call it attitude money. When I was younger (and basically broke), I would make money doing odd jobs, errands, mowing lawns, etc. My parents opened me a savings account and I began depositing money. One thing

Attitude money really helps because usually your bills are paid and your credit it better. You’re able to qualify for lower interest rates on purchases and credit cards. You’re able to reduce stress at the job because you aren’t living check to check. Attitude money requires discipline however.
The problem is that most of us are never taught or shown how to save. We live as if money is evil if it’s not spent immediately. That’s so far from the truth it’s scary. When you hear people say, “Cash is King” it solely means that those that have the money usually are positioned perfectly to get the “deals”. Can’t be ready to buy that “steal of a deal” if your savings is negligent (no money).
Try it! No different than going on a diet. Start out in 2017 by opening an account that Here’s what I mean. When you is purely for your “attitude” get that check PAY your bills money. Every pay period……… (hopefully you don’t have many) add money to that account and and then PAY yourself (meaning watch it grow. take 10-20% of your take home check and immediately put into I guarantee you will feel so much better in 12 months if an account that you will not you save religiously and with touch). Do so religiously until discipline. you begin to see that account grow to a number that is 6 months worth of paychecks. I grew up listening to my Mom say, “save your money for a rainy day”. Makes no sense because usually when it rains, I’m not really doing much that requires spending money. But, rainy day is code word for CRYING out for help when I need a bill paid, something breaks, tuition is due, etc. Now, as an adult, I understand.

In The Black Odyss
On 11/13/16, I had the opportunity to attend an awesome networking event in Washington, DC. While I have gone to a number of these functions in the past, none compared to this one. The In The Black Odyssey Media tour, converged on the Mayflower hotel with style and grace. It was filled with beautiful, confident and professional entrepreneurial women; all seeming eager to interact with each other. These influential and affluent women, decked out in their little black dresses, showed up to encourage, uplift and inspire each other. For me, it was simply a beautiful sight to see multicultural women in support of each other and their respective business ventures. I was honored and excited to be in such great company because not everyone could attend this galalike affair. You either had to be a member of the organization or you were invited by a member. I was fortunate to be invited by member and friend, Nicole Diaz. I’m most

I had one person who was so enthused about my shoe business that she was telling others about me and introducing me to people so I could tell them about my business. This was a primary example of what I spoke of earlier regarding the
Upon arrival to the hotel, we were greeted by smiling hostesses who checked us in. After being checked in, to the left of us was a designated red carpet area to take pictures. With cameras flashing, this gave off a celebrity/ superstar vibe that would make anyone feel special. Following the picture-taking fun, we entered the main room where women were socializing while dining on hors d’oeuvres and sipping on wine and other beverages. (Being the foodie that I am, I helped myself to rounds of lamb chop, chicken, crab balls, fruits and vegetables and other finger foods. Needless to say, I had my fill). New Year’s Resolution:
m
y New Year’s resolution for 2017 is to live a healthy lifestyle. It seems as if every year this is my goal, and I start out very dedicated to the resolution, but as the year goes on, I become less committed. I know that I am not alone, so the purpose of this article is to encourage us all to stay committed to the resolution of being physically fit, but to also commit to being spiritually fit. It is pointless to spend time, money, and energy on being physically fit, if our spiritual man is out of shape. God want us to be whole healthy, to have spiritual, physical, and emotional health. He wants, and we should want, our spirit man strong, our bodies strong, and our souls strong. I Timothy 4:8 (NIV) says, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” This scripture mentions physical training, but it emphasizes spiritual training being of most importance. We know what to do to be in shape, if want to lose weight or be healthy, we know to exercise and eat right; we even know what to do to grow spiritually, read and study the Word of God, have a consistent devotion time, and pray; so, this passage is not so much about how to be physically and spiritually fit, but WHY we should stay committed to this resolution.
18
The first reason, is so that we can LIVE. One of the major benefits of exercise is that it combats health conditions and diseases, releasing “good,” cholesterol, to keep the blood flowing smoothly, which decreases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In fact, regular physical activity can help prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and concerns, including stroke, arthritis, diabetes, and depression. After having my third child, my blood pressure was very high and the doctor warned me that I was risking my life. So, I began to exercise. Being spiritually fit, help us to LIVE, as well. Proverbs 4:23 encourage us to turn from evil ways, guarding our hearts because from our hearts flows the issues of life. When we do this, we allow our heart to be
molded by God, pumping the things of God, love, joy, peace, self-control (Galatians 5:22). The second reason is so that we can Look Good. Physical fitness helps us look good because our clothes fit better on our body frame. One of my main reasons of getting in shape is to fit back into my old clothes. So, in the natural we workout to lose weight to look good in our clothes. However, looking good is a reason to be concerned about spiritual training as well. We have to be careful that we are not wearing the wrong things in the spirit and are able to “fit” the things God has called us to wear. What should we be able to fit in/wear if we are spiritually fit? Colossians 3:13 – 14 says “Therefore, as the

Being Fit! elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. It’ll be hard to fit into these things if we’re not spiritually fit. Just like physical fitness help us shed unwanted fat, Colossians 3:8, tells us what we need to shed in the spiritual, “8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, So, let us not only work hard to physically look good, but spiritually, as well. Lastly our New Year’s resolution to be fit, physically and spiritually, is too Last, or endure. It is important that we have the strength and energy to do the tasks of life. Exercise increases our energy, improve our muscular strength, and boost our endurance. One of my reasons for wanting to get in shape is to run a 5k race, and I wanted to finish the race. So, in training for the race I noticed other benefits of my fitness, I was able to last outside playing with my energetic children, do
>>>
house chores without winding too quickly, and last through an entire aerobics class. Spiritual fitness helps us to last as well. Hebrews 12:1 likens our spiritual journey to running a race, encouraging us to lay aside things that will keep us from enduring, or lasting. Our goal should be to run a spiritual race that will allow us to make it to the end, a life with Jesus in heaven.
Jan/Feb 2017 | The BEST LIFE
So, now that we understand WHY it’s important for us to stay committed to our New Year’s resolution of being not only physically, but spiritually, in shape, let’s make a pact to make 2017 the year with stick with our resolution! There are many benefits, but most importantly we want to live a life that is pleasing to God, so that we can run a race to help us make it to the end, hearing those words, “Well done” (Matthew 25:23).

So Dear Jesus
I know you are speaking thru me write now as I’m writing this article. I have to obey you Lord and give some motivation and guidance to the world and this goes for me as well. It’s time for us the people of every nation to come together and unite with one another. We need to love more on one another. We should not see the color of someone skin, gender, amount of money, the kind of clothes one wears, or even someone’s freedom of speech unless its negativity.
I pray for every nation to get on one accord and strive for greatness in the Kingdom God. Lead and show us the way Lord to make it in your kingdom. God take us and mold us so we can LIVE LAUGH AND LOVE – your perfect will.

Laugh
I know somedays can seem gloomy but a few laughs can change a person’s mood or the way they feel at that moment. Laughter is good for the soul, some people say. But I know it is a true statement for I have experienced it for myself. Whether in a good or bad mood I can always count on a good laugh to change my mind about my situation, positive feelings follow.
22
Live love and laugh all time in to each other. Laughter brings a good feeling to our bodies, mind and souls. So when we laugh this feeling allows us to love one another. While we are laughing and loving on one another we are truly living in peace with our brother or sister. Let your laughter be contagious and spread like a fire – for living is sure to follow.

People of the WORLD, you have to realize that however you want your life to be or not to be is all up to YOU. You CONTROL your destiny. WITH Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
T
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. hough I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
